New Egret sniper?

But I thought he was like
an android or something, created from parts within Lab 8's arsenal
or something.
Peacock is confusing.

please get back to talking about snipers
andy's not dead so no more thinking about it

Gotta catch 'em all, gotta catch em all, yeah
Gotta catch 'em all, gotta catch em all, yeeeaaah
Gotta catch 'em all, Skullmonsters
Yeah when I read 'Skull Monsters' my mind went to Pokemon Vietnamese Crystal from Jontron's Bootleg Pokemon episode.
In fact everything Cee Lone Cat McNeil types is reminiscent of that game's dialogue...

Everyone call me Elf Monster.

please get back to talking about snipers
andy's not dead so no more thinking about it

Hm... If you were to try to snipe Andy in the head, would the bullet bounce off? Does that mean you'd have to go for a leg shot instead? Wait a second, if Andy's an idea in Peacock's head, didn't that nice man with the knives and the smiling mask say ideas are bulletproof? Am I mixing my canons again? How would you snipe with a cannon, anyway? Though I guess it would solve the ricochet problem. GAH!!!

If Andy can be killed and bleeds blood, does that mean the same for Avery and Timmy?

some miscommunication lead to having the corpses of Andy Anvil and Stanley in the background of the vetoed wrecked Lab Eight stage:
From the way I read that sentence, I think dead Andy was the result of miscommunication, but Stanley wasn't? I have heard it mentioned by Alex that Stanley was meant to perish in the Lab 8 raid, but it was changed after he became popular. Back in 2011 would have been before that happened.

wait, was juju's design thought after or before SG came out? Because if it's after release, and since that gif seems to come from the Glass Canopy stage...

Juju's design was after the release of the game but before Glass Canopy was even being developed, she was thought up during SDE, and revealed as a canon character and subsequently shot down (heh) during the indiegogo campaign.

We should transfer those headcannon posts to this place.

Head Canon Time
index.php

This woman in the background of the Glass Canopy is the new #13 Sniper of The Black Egrets.
She is of Filipino descent and has a theme of Eagles.
Apparently her name is Junko.
That's a good one! The hairclip makes it very feasible.
Due to her hair style, lack of a nose and blue-green color palette I had always assumed that that girl was a dagonian, but now that I get a good look at her she seems more human to me.

When you say apparently her name is Junko you mean you read it on a concept art page or in game files?
Because that makes it seem even more likely, Junko replacing Juju as the eastern sniper girl.
Either way, Junko looks like a more Skullgirls looking character than Juju. Her design is more than "I am an asian girl who carries and pretty unremarkable sniper rifle."
Moved from New Egrets Sniper thread:

Can I headcanon that Junko is deeply religious and, when sniping, recites Bible(?) verses aloud while calmly lining up her shots, kissing her inverted cross before taking the shot?

You always will be in my heart Juju. Eating jujubas (portuguese word)

balas-de-goma.jpg

As for Junko I am indulged in a cruel type of sniper, since most of Parasoul's military are pretty nice people.

Examples from Tvtropes

In the book One Shot, One Kill by Charles W. Sasser and Craig Roberts (Roberts is himself a former sniper). The U.S. military originally simply issued sniper rifles to the soldiers with the best aim, but they're now selected for their mental state and personality, with aim being a secondary concern. It's easier to teach a decent soldier better aiming skills than it is to teach the wrong soldier how to cope with the psychological demands... for a given value of "decent" - not the one you'd like applied to your neighbours.

There was a History Channel special on snipers, which included a somewhat-famous bit of rifle marksmanship that occured during the Vietnam War. On St. Valentines Day, just before midnight, 20 Vietcong soldiers were crossing a river, holding their rifles over their heads because the water went up to their necks. On the other side of the river was an American sniper who killed them all with one headshot apiece in about 30 seconds. An unpleasant, but necessary, part of war. We see a recreation of the shooting narrated by the original sniper. After the recreation, he discusses the shooting a little bit more before saying, "Yeah, that was my St. Valentine's Day massacre present to the Vietcong" and laughing. Brrr...

On the same special, there was a United States sniper from the Iraqi War. The main point of the segment was him killing an enemy sniper who had been terrorizing a town. At the beginning of the segment, he appeared to be reasonable. However, as the segment continued, he began to give off a decidedly... sociopath vibe. He repeatedly referred to using fellow Marines as "bait" for the enemy sniper without informing them of this. He also was talking about how he regarded the entire population of the town as possible terrorists, to the point where he would cover them with his rifle if he saw them doing anything "suspicious". When he finally found the sniper (after waiting for him to shoot twice at friendly troops to pinpoint his (the enemy sniper's) location), he wanted to use an airstrike in the middle of a populated town to kill the sniper. He said that his commanders (obviously) denied this, and proceeded to mock their rationale that it would lead to civilian casualties. Brr indeed.

I think that Junko makes a point system in her head when she is shooting in the same way you get points in an arcade shooting game.
Oooh almost like Gimli and Legolas keeping points!

(What if there are dwarves in the Skullgirls universe and they are to the Scotts what Elves are to the Welsh?)
Alex would never allow crap of this caliber.
More or less. She doesn't care if the targets are conveniently inhuman, ugly and or evil. Also, she sets up challenges like:

-Only instant kills (the faster they die more points).
-(Multi-shot) How many bullets I can get into someone before they die.
-(Hard Multi-shot) How many bullets before they fall.
-(Multi-hit) Hitting many people with a single bullet.

I know. You created a very good idea. Just picking where it all started and putting it in a place where people will see.

I was looking for something to practice on so I made this:
That's awesome but I don't think her sclera is red like that, I think it's just red markings around her eyes.
Like SS4 Goku. Like I said before, the original GIF is very low detail so it's hard to make some things out.

Agreed. She's a bit stylized and abstract in Willy Hwang's painting. Plenty of interpretations. My first impression was reverse Gambit eyes. Like she was a product from one of the ASG Labs. I like the normal human look better:

I don't wanna keep making critiques to some already great work, but Juju always looked Pretty short while this Junko looks a lot taller than she does in your drawing, or maybe she has a different body type or something.

I like what I see here but retconned means retconned as somebody else in this thread said. I don't think any traits Juju had can be used for Junko.

I don't think Junko is banned from sharing any traits with Juju, she just has to be a plausibly different character. She doesnt have to be tall and not wear an oversized coat, although I'll agree with Denizen that it seems unlikely she'll be Juju's height, especially when you compare her to the crowd she's standing in front of in Glass Canopy. She seems to be average height.

Earlier in the thread I said I thought she looked Indian and I'll clarify that I meant that as Middle Eastern not native american, and i based that off her formal attire as well as skin colour. With regards to her eyes, I like to think she has red makeup under her eyes, like a camo/warpaint type thing, although she looks cool with red sclera too. The stage backgrounds are low detail, but it looks like her eyes could be entirely black, in which case perhaps she could be dagonian?

I would hope that any new Egret character gets to wear one of those masks.

I always thought of Juju as the short chick too, but looking at her recently she's seeming pretty leggy actually. The puffy jacket makes her look wider and thus shorter and the sniper rifle completely dwarfs her. I don't think she's tall, but she's taller than I thought.

Cee Lone Cat Mitchell pretty much only suggested the character be Chinese, use a talking sniper rifle (or Katana) and be named Juju.
Technically Junko over her is not name Juju so that's one off the list.
Second, Juju's sniper seems to be a Living Weapon in Alex's note. He also says it talks, making it very unique from other living weapons, but it seems to be more like an AI. Cee Lone wanted the gun to be a 'Skull Monster,' which seems to be his name for a Parasites, so perhaps simply making the sniper rifle a Living Weapon rather than a Parasite it'll be fine? Unlikely, they could however make the rifle not talk as that was his initial point to the character.
As for nationality, there aren't REALLY any Chinese in the Skullverse, but we know that Juju is probably from the Dragon Empire or at least descended from there. Junko clearly has some sort of other nationality, not sure exactly what it could be, although it does seem to be eastern of some sort and I'm not sure how far the scale of the Dragon Empire is (does it include the Skullgirls equivalent of India? Japan? The Philippines?

The thing is Cee Lone never had any right to claim Juju in the first place, he hardly lent any intellectual property in her conception. So I fear no matter how much she is changed it will never be enough for him. So you're probably right ArgonBern to even more of a degree then your initial comment suggested.

Critiques are always welcome. I like all comments, negative or positive. Here's why I stole Juju's body: the name itself points toward some one younger or kid-like.

When earlier in the thread, the name itself came into question. juju_for_president mentioned their disdain for the name. So I looked it up. On Wikipedia, it indicates the name can adopt different meanings depending on the kanji selected:
  • 純子, "pure, child"
  • 順子, "order, child"
  • 淳子, "pure, child"
  • 潤子, "moist, child"
  • 準子, "conform, child"
  • 洵子, "truth, child"
The "Jun" part brings the variety, but the "ko" part always implies "child." I like the idea of a sniper prodigy, but let's try something closer to Parasoul than Umbrella.

Let's see Junko older, and in a standard issue Black Egret uniform (minus the stick grenades. I don't think a sniper wants to be laying on explosives).

hrmph, the coloring and inking really deadened the original sketch!

I kept the massive hunk of bangs as seen in the stage art, but did the anime cheat of drawing in the eyebrows even if they are hidden by hair. To Zazz's point, I don't think she can (lots of hair) or would want to wear the mask and helmet. Sniping is hard enough without another lens getting in the way.

Junko as human or Dagonian:

潤子, "moist,

Hm... "Moist" could work pretty well with Dagonian heritage, and the middle color matches the background NPC pretty well, methinks...

I think Jun actually means, "obedient," in this context, given her job of TAKING THE SHOT! without fail when called upon. Here, "obedient child," simply means, "a subordinate who follows orders."

I really like the art, btw. Very nice, so far, even if slightly tethered to Juju, still. Can I make a suggestion? Change the sniper rifle to something else, maybe something meatier/more formidable. The super-long rifle juju was going to use was like that because of it's possible usage as a staff, which presumably wouldn't be the case here if you were going to differentiate the characters.

This is actually some really cool stuff. Just spoiler'd the large pictures so they wouldn't take up space. I think a PSG-1 or a Remington Modular Sniper might be fit the ticket if @BallotBoxer does rework the image.

I don't know much about American Copyright laws, would this character be possible? Is Skullgirls allowed to have a female sniper in the Egrets? If yes, does she need a very different design?

I don't see why copyright laws are really coming into play with a character that is really only being speculated on. In the military there are not many female snipers, but I don't see why that would hinder there being women as snipers in a fictional military. Design wise I don't think that variety in how she looks. Snipers cary tools on them that the infantry wouldn't normally carry. There is a lot of leeway with the Egrets because special forces members seem to be able to get away with a more personalized look, rather than the faceless masks that many of the other members wear.

The Sniper is dead, long live The Sniper!

Juju who? It's always been Junko.
I actually like that red-eyed, Gambit look. It fits nicely with her red color motif, and being that Gambit is known for his accuracy, is kinda symbolic in a meta sorta way.

I'm more referring if it would be a problem with the original Juju, not the actual military. Unless I got your post wrong, in which case I'm sorry

I think it was a case that I didn't understand what you meant by copywriting for the character. I am sorry for misunderstanding as well! Honestly I don't think it would be a problem at all as long as the story and design is original enough. Honestly, the whole Juju situation is more of a bad memory now than it is a haunting/looming copyright hazard.

the sniper motif would just have to be handled differently. This character could work as a "designated marksman" (Something that is close but not entirely what the title in question is) rather than being a "sniper."

Well earlier we were looking at Juju's original concept which was: A chinese girl named Juju who uses a talking katana or sniper rifle that is a Skull Monster. So that idiot has no right to claim that any of his intellectual property was stolen to create Junko- an Egret sniper of debatable heritage.
And yet it still is a possibility. He'd most likely lose, but still if a law suit is avoidable...
Anyway, I guess there is a reason Junko isn't in story mode, or been formally introduced. I doubt she'll ever come into play.

The guy that made Juju is sort of the one who ended her...
well sort of.
I mean it's his fault for claiming that his idea was stolen. Even if Alex was the one who came up with everything good and interesting about Juju (design, story, etc.) and he just came up with a very lame underdeveloped concept.
2934fda47c308851a24008861df9759b.jpg

The guy's an idiot. He thinks parasites are called Skull Monsters and Cerebella's hair is alive.

Wha-wha-WHAT? I thought the whole fiasco was because the guy drew the character, since Alex's style is not that hard to replicate i saw Juju and totally thought she was a fan drawing turned canon. But this all started because that dude claimed intellectual property on a FACEBOOK COMMENT?!? What a pathetic waste of human life, I'm surprised L0 hasn't egged this dude's house or something, they probably have in secret.

Oh well, it doesn't matter, Alex Ahad is a creative genius (unlike that moron) so he can easily come up with another sniper, probably a more interesting and cooler looking one too.

Zero Lab still not any massage from New Egrets sniper:PAR:

I would like a massage from the new Egrets Sniper any of the Skullgirls cast please and thank you. 0L deserve it more though, for putting up with this.
