For all things NIS, be it Disgaea, Guided Fate Paradox, Witch and the Hundred Knights, Phantom Brave or any of their many older titles, this thread is for that. This thread is for the games developed inhouse by NIS and not the games only published by them, like Compile Heart's Neptunia series. If you have never played a NIS game, most are turn based strategy games with gamebreaking mechanics(the max level is 9999) and over the top special moves, a few are roguelikes, and Witch and the Hundred Knights is an action rpg.

I'm currently playing Disgaea Dimension 2 myself, have to say I kind of miss fusion and magichange, but it's good to see Laharl and co again as the stars, as the original trio has always been the strongest main cast of the Disgaea games in my opinion, Laharl being my favorite main character followed by Valvatorez.

Raspberyl is also now available for free on the US PSN, and if you haven't already picked them up, Desco and Fuka are free on Hong Kong PSN and it works for the US version.

If you plan to buy Disgaea D2 in the future, I suggest not getting the digital version and going for the physical copy, the digital version seems to suffer from tons of bugs that crash the game.

I'm also playing ZHP Unlosing Ranger for the time, I missed out on it when it came out some few years back due to not having a psp, so far died a few times, I mostly just ran out of food in dungeons and starved, so I've started farming the first stage to stockpile food before going into new dungeons.

To start with some simple questions, what is your favorite NIS game? and who is your favorite main character?

Finished Disgaea D2 main story, I think this was indeed the shortest main story for a Disgaea, in the end I feel the story was weaker than D1 or D4, but better than D2 and D3. The overall theme of family was pretty good, and Laharl moving out of his father's shadow and accepting his sister, and the same of Etna. Many said the story was outright bad, but I'd disagree because it didn't drag on and had a solid ongoing theme.

I'd really like to use Xenolith, so I hope he becomes DLC down the line, he has a cool design.

That said moving into post game now, so grinding up Fuka and Desco to usable first.

Where is the Pure Flonne avatar on PSN? :(

People have been saying the story is bad? Guess that isn't too surprising based on what I've noticed people tend to like in their stories. Personally, I thought the story was pretty decent. Though I haven't beaten the game yet (At the final boss but need to grind money to give people better equipment so they don't do 0 damage to the final boss, lol)

I also kind of miss magichange but mounts are pretty cool too. Never played ZHP but I finished Guided Fate Paradox a week or two ago. Good game, status effects make me cry though because getting paralyzed, confused, put to sleep or petrified on a floor with challenging enemies = GGs ;.;

As did I, but I would have liked to see

Mid-boss make an appearance somewhere.

Best stage for that is 6-1 with the difficulty turned up to 9 stars(and only 9 stars) in the cheat shop, as level 99 monsters are glitched to give better experience.

I'll probably be playing GFP once I finish with all the post game in D2.

Oh cool. thanks. I actually forgot that the cheat shop even existed, lol.

Sounds like a good plan. It'll be a nice change of pace from D2. No idea when I'm going to get around to either games post game on my end. I have an avalanche of games to deal with in the next 2 months as well as my usual never-ending fighting game backlog. I'll probably do both post games in the summer.

Who the fuck made a Nippon Ichi thread and didn't tell me!?
What can I say about Disgaea and NIS by extension?
If they didn't exist I'd be a much different person because I met many of my best friends because of Disgaea, so I hold nothing but adoration and respect for the whole company.

Also that upcoming Asagi game will probably be cool

I have.

Story would've been good if it weren't for Xenolith being garbage as a villain and Sicily existing. I already had a rant on that in the Disgaea thread.

I've been meaning to play some of the older NIS games like La Pucelle or Soul Nomad, but I've never actually had the chance to.

Got my first 9999 for Disgaea D2 today, Laharl.

Even level 5000 was not enough to get through the Krichevskoy group stage before DarkDeath Evilman, all the omega/tera ice destroyed Laharl easily despite the fact that they're 1000 and I was 5000, so hopefully now 9999 will be enough.

If not gotta gather bunch more staticians and get a few others up to 9999, and prepare up my Succubus for item world rushing.

Oh you.

Sicily grew on me after a while, but Flonne was by far the best character in this game I think, but I suppose when isn't she?

La Pucelle is slower paced than Disgaea, but definitely worth checking out as it's very different from other titles the way battles are handled, it's also a serious plot like Phantom Brave.

Cladun X2 on Steam is pretty fun. Would definitely recommend it as an action rpg by NIS.

I don't even care that much about Asagi, I'm more interested in more AU versions of her.
Alternate Universe shit is my jam.
They might actually do her game someday, since they're experienced with action games already with Prinny.

Crap reminds me that I have to get back to Disgaea D2 and beat it. Got so distracted with other stuff.

I am also fucking HYPED for The Witch and the Hundred Knight.

They said in Summer like last year they actually are making an Asagi game that's like Asagi Wars 2
Edit: That was for a fan event show.

Did you finish Disgaea 4 yet?

My favorite NIS game is Disgaea 1. Even though I like the other installments of the series (even the spin offs) Disgaea 1 holds a special place in my heart. My favorite main character is Laharl.

Finished Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger, it was for sure the hardest NIS game by far.

Dying and losing all my items and money cause I got one shot at the end of a dungeon is beyond frustrating, and when I mean you lose it all, you lose everything.

I loved it.

On a first playthrough you can't afford the insurance to keep a lot of the items either.

The longest final battle mankind ever witnessed, I cheesed the last boss pretty easily by using the knockback on a spear, now I get regret not stealing his equipment though.

Pirohiko was a great character overall, and another addition to my NIS favorites, Etranger was a little annoying at first, but later reveals make sense with her. Pirohiko and Etranger played off eachother well to keep me entertained the entire game, the humor was very well written in this game, and emotionally touched by some things despite the silliness of the game.

Laharl, Etna, and Flonne look weird as hell in the Unlosing Ranger style though, think I'll use the Dangerama costume instead.

I believe that's be cause their sprites are reused from Makai Kingdom. I could be wrong though.

Pretty much Z.H.P uses the sprite style from Makai Kingdom (with the walking in place sprites and all). So Yeah, it's probably the sprites from Makai Kingdom.

I think I have to say my favorite NIS game would have to be Phantom Brave. That is a fantastic game and it still contains my favorite characters to this day.

I did a quick double check and it does appear that the sprites for Etna, Flonne, and Laharl are really just reused.

I got the Wii rerelease. I also remember there being a Phantom Brave web comic on the net at one time. No idea what happened to it though.

Actually don't mean their sprites, but their character portraits.

I'm pretty sure the ones from Makai Kingdom were also just reused from Phantom Brave as well.

Phantom Brave is also my favorite NIS game, I think it had the strongest story, most complex battle system, and was best paced in general.

Walnut's theme was the best one by far.

There was something about Phantom Brave that was different. It just had a world that was so interesting and a story that sucked you in.

It also certainly didn't hurt that it was dramatic as fuck.
I should hunt down a copy one of these days.

I do remember though you could cheat really easily by power leveling in the failure dungeons lol

But overall, fantastic game. Ash has been one of my favorite NIS characters of all time, and I fucking fangasmed when he was announced as DLC for Disgaea 2 Portable.

Pringer X was super hard in Disgaea D2, not like the pushover he was in D4.

Spent a whole day preparing for Pringer X, he kicked my ass a few times, and then I got my Sicily and Succubus to level 9999, making for 4 9999s, still lost to him again, but through some strategies using Artina and 3 Shamans to lower his evasion, and a lantern to swap his resistances, it was a long hard fought battle, but I defeated him!

Wasn't there also a PSP Port of La Pucelle?
It apparently had a story mode for Overlord Priere
Yeah I've wanted to try the psp ports of La Pucelle and Makai Kingdom for the new content, but they were never brought over.

Oh yeah, seeing the new OP image made me wonder.

How's the Guided Fate Paradox?
Asked for it for Christmas knowing next to nothing about it, looks good though
Haven't played it myself yet, will get around to it once I finish with Disgaea D2 post game.

Hahah damn, I really should have not ignored this thread. I wanted to post the Witch and the Hundred Knight trailer XD

Can't friggin wait for that game. Going to buy the special edition. This is like my most anticipated game of 2014 (been waiting a damn long time for this game)

So I've been playing The Guided Fate Paradox and I have to say that this is a pretty good game so far. It feels like a real spiritual successor to ZHP (Even though I liked ZHP's theme better).

It's kinda funny that this game is basically the alternate version of Disgaea (Since this takes place in celestia instead of the netherworld).

Platinum'd Disgaea D2, got the last trophy today, it was a lot of work getting all the items, trust me on that.

First Platinum ever, yay! Took me exactly 104 hours, not including reload time.

Gonna kill Baal later and done with the game forever.

Love the Disgaea series. Got introduced to the series last year and played through all the games in the main series. Including D2.

It's kind of a toss up when it comes to my favorite Disgaea game.

I feel that 1 and 4 had the best stories, but D2 has the most refined gameplay.

As for favorite protagonist? Toss up between Laharl and Valvatorez. Both awesome and hilarious in their own way.
