USA [Dec 8, 2017] SALTY! Friday Weeklies @ Game Realms (Burbank, CA)

Oh right, overlays, we'll have to make our own. Uh, man that might not be a bad idea Wenzel. Although I don't think we have a camera? Maybe one? So at most we'll just need one other scene? Game/Camera other than that it'll probably just be fullscreen game most of the time.

Really?

I don't know that I even HAVE a logo, but an in-game overlay that puts the names somewhere that doesn't obliterate the in-game score at the top would be nice.
Feels weird asking.

You have to say it so no one says "but I didn't know!" There's less risk in writing it down just in case

Okay, I will do it!

Okay, I will do it!
OBS?
(O.o)
Am I really able to ask for specific stuff?

I want to ask if this really needs to be mentioned...but I have this feeling you make a point to say this for reasons.
Spoken like someone who really hasn't been to a tournament before. :^P

About how many people will be here?
Depends on who shows up, the first week might be smaller, but due to having headcounts for Twin Galaxies we know it'll likely be between 20 and 30.

@Mike_Z Sure! ask for specific stuff, and OBS would be the best its good and free.

Aside here are interesting links/ guides for a smooth quality specs:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/2dz7ru/bitrates_resolutions_and_quality

And, the tricky part, bitrates:

What bitrates should I chose for my upload? SEE HERE:
2 Mbits use 30FPS
- 1400 bitrate & 1400 buffer size
3 Mbits use 40FPS
- 2300 bitrate & 2300 buffer size
4 Mbits use 60FPS
- 2800 bitrate & 2800 buffer size
5-7 Mbits use 60FPS
- 3000 bitrate & 3000 buffer size
8+ Mbits use 60 FPS
- 3500 & 3500 buffer size
DON'T GO ABOVE 3500 EVEN IF YOUR UPLOAD COULD HANDLE IT!! TWITCH BANS STREAMS ABOVE 3500kbps!

Here and example using this guides that I streamed:

About Salty!:
SALTY! (formerly Salty Cupcakes) is an event that takes place in Los Angeles on Friday nights, and originally was run by some members of the Skullgirls development team at Lab Zero Games. It once served as a way to test new changes and obtain feedback, and as a way to build a local scene for players of the game. With the game completed, it is now a continued show of support and a source of local competition for Skullgirls, along with a few other games we enjoy as a community. It functions as both a tournament scene, and a social event. Players from all over SoCal, and sometimes out of state and even country, gather to play both competitively and casually.

You can watch SALTY! at the link below every Friday

Hello everyone!

My name is Maggie and I am CEO and one of the owners of the video game store Game Realms!

Game Realm is a brick and mortar video game store that buys and sells games and systems from the retro era all the way to the current era, be it NES or PS4, or Dreamcast or 3DS, we will carry games for just about every video game console out there. We also house a gaming room where there are over 10 HD TVs with different game systems hooked up for customers to try out demos for free or rent time to play different games on them. We also have a merchandise section that carries merchandise related to games, like T Shirts, jewelry, pins etc.

We are happy to be hosting the SALTY! Tournies with members from Lab Zero Games, and we hope everyone will enjoy the event at our venue! If anyone has any questions about our store or our location, please feel free to ask!

@Mag_GameRealms

Thanks for giving Salty a home again!
This looks awesome.

I'm from West Canada myself but I'll be flying in eventually to check the place out after it gets going smoothly, hopefully with my friends from Seattle.
See you there sometime!

Unfortunately, since I might have to be busy at Fridays, I still might not actually go to Salty for awhile.

EDIT 7-7-2016: Actually, I might be coming to Game-Realms tomorrow. I might actually have time to go.

70 people singed up? That's insane, and awesome.
(singed)
70 unique people have, at some point, attended one of the Salties. If it doesn't say "Yes" in the thing, they haven't signed up to this one.
If we got 70 for a local I don't even know what I'd do.

Oh, missed that.
I thought this was a list of everyone who wanted to come to this one.

Ya 70 people would be pretty... intense. 18 people so far! Keep spreading the word, it happens this week!

Also noticing the thread title needs to be fixed. It's Fridays, and a Bi-Weekly now. Mods hlp.

So I will be arriving in Burbank at like...5pm. I live in the OC, so it's either this, or be stuck on the 405 and try to not kill someone.

When I make it to Game Realms, I'll go in and see if anything needs to be done before 8. After that, i'm grabbing dinner. Would anyone like to join The Beverly Hillbilly for dinner?

New Salty? Sounds fun....count me in. (Also my friend is coming with me but he doesn't play fighting games).

Also, does anyone have an extra PS pad they could let me borrow? I only have an xbox one, and I don't have an adaptor.

Will there be a SFV set up?
If there is table space for extra stations past SG/GG/VSav/TA, and we're out of other games people want to play on those stations, there can be.
But, in a stunning reversal from major tournaments, SF5 can be booted off for literally any other game. :^) SoCal has WNF, which will be a way better thing to go to if SF5 is your thing.

Was just asking for a friend.
He's looking to learn some SG but also likes to play SFV.

Thanks.

In seriousness, it's not an SF5-centered gathering, but if there's space there's nobody gonna stop 'em.

Pretty much. I don't mind a casual station, but this won't be a hub for SFV since there are other events for that. There are definitely people that would play casuals if we have the room, but ya, it does not take priority over SG/VSav/+R/TA and random poverty games Nostalgic or Rob will probably bring. I'm definitely hoping to see we have ample space for extra things though.

Also, Devita, Fifi, and I are in favor of trying to get KoF XIII going too. Not sure how many other people would play it, but man. KoF is a game I've always wanted to play and well, I never got into the local scene because it ran concurrently with Salty Cupcakes at the time AND I CHOSE SG OVER IT. I WANNA BRING KOF BACK. I think Fifi is really the only one with it on console though with all the stuff D: . Mine was a disc and my disc drive died on my PS3.

I can bring my laptop and we can have 1.5 setups bc my laptop is shit. It is still a possibility.

A quick note for anyone who are visiting Game Realms as customers rather than participants to the tournament:

We will be closing the store earlier than usual for the tournament tomorrow on Friday 8th of July. Instead of closing at the usual 9 PM time, we will be closing at 8 PM. If you have friends or family coming to visit as customers, please let them know.

Once we have our proper permits, we can stay open to our usual closing time even when events are happening.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing people at the tournament tomorrow!

I had tons of fun! This was my first Salty and I don't think I did too bad. I managed to talk to some people, which was awesome. ^w^ Hopefully I'll be less nervous and awkward next time. This was great, and I hope Salty continues.

Yeah I was going to post, you guys need to tell whoever runs the Games Realm twitch account to turn on VODs for us non West Coast people.

I'm in the west coast and I don't see them either...so that probably means archives are just disabled unfortunately.

Salty was super fun and I had a good time! My +1 enjoyed himself too and he doesn't even play fighting games. I don't think I'll be back for a while though, the next 2 Saltys are during stuff I already committed to beforehand :(

Questions and/or feedback:
-With the amount of people we had the back space was a little crowded with as much equipment as we had to setup. Could we use the front area next time to setup tables and games to spread the crowd out a bit?

-Setups for SG were in kind of short supply too and there's PS4s along the back with SG installed. Could we attach our own monitors to those to get more low lag setups for either running bracket faster or casuals? ((since we had an extra monitor or two this time))

-That's really about all I can think of.

Looking forward to coming back eventually, the venue was great and I'm glad they gave us a chance! Thanks for hosting us, Game Realms!

Good feedback! Maggie and I talked about moving it to the sales floor during the event, Neither of us expected THAT many people, but going forward it would be better to use the bigger space especially if we maintain numbers or man... get even bigger. The only problem was the lack of extension cords which they would look into. I might have one or two if I dig around so I'll try to remember to bring that along. Optimizing the way we setup is something we'll probably continue to revise going forward. Currently I can't make it there early to help setup because of work, so its on whoever show up early D: .

Ya, without yours thats gonna be two setups down. I have mine, Mike brings one, Stuff has a monitor, Red can bring a console. I would like 4 stations at the minimum honestly. So if we can get another monitor/console that would be great. At worst, we can setup on the one in the back you suggested. It will just be away from everyone D: .
