Unknown Ms. Fortune Cerebella
Ahh, Beatrix. You truly were the finest performer of the Cirque De Cartes. It's just too bad Cerebella's hat tricks have kept you in the shadow so long.

I imagine you're doing pretty well though, if you're spending your earnings at the River King Casino, though.

You'll have your vengeance soon enough, I'm sure...

Like I've said before, I have always thought that Beatrix is casually trying to kill Cerebella. Cerebella is clueless of Beatrix's intentions and avoids death by chance.

Beatrix entry for the Skullgirls 3rd Character campaign:

The fiercely competitive magician hoping to dethrone Cerebella and replace her both at the circus and as an agent of the Medicis. Beatrix wears the Cloak of Damocles, allowing her to carry and employ an impossible array of props - with some risk. She combines its genuinely supernatural properties with old fashioned sleight of hand for attacks nobody can see coming.

Playstyle Speculation
Now you see her, now she’s pinning you down with a barrage of knives before sawing you in half.

With her magic cloak, she’s able to hold an otherwise impossible diversity of weaponry. However, it does take an incredible amount of concentration to pull off the tricks correctly, and a mistake could be painful or deadly. The threat of danger is always looming above. Her cloak has an exra-dimensional property to it, and she is even able to counter enemy attacks and avoid projectiles by having them fall into the cloak instead.

Gameplay Inspiration
Ciel (Melty Blood), Spiral (X-Men: Children of the Atom / Marvel vs. Capcom 2), Anakaris (Darkstalkers series), V-Ism Cody(Street Fighter Alpha 3), Magic Man (Mega Man & Bass), Mycale (Akatsuki Blitzkampf), Area (Street Fighter EX3), Chaca(Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure), Hsien-ko (Darkstalkers series), Noob Saibot (Mortal Kombat series)

== All character playstyle speculation and gameplay inspirations are subject to change,
and may be different in the final version ==

The disclaimer at the bottom is important! Medici thugs (scantily clad women wearing bunny skull masks) will mow you down with hail of gunfire if you start talking about gameplay in this non-gameplay area. I included it for lore purposes (insight about Beatrix's magic cloak). Thems the rules!

The Cirque des Cartes are a worldly bunch. Feng is from the Dragon Empire. Cerebella is probably from Canopy Kingdom. Beatrix, I'd wager, is from the Chess Kingdom. The canon info thread describes each kingdom's technology to be founded on opposing ideals. Canopy Kingdom is based in science while the Chess Kingdom is based in magic. How else does one explain the magic Cloak of Damocles?

More about the Chess Kingdom:
- The main religion of the Chess Kingdom is a variant of the Trinity religion
- The Chess Kingdom’s demographic is mostly human. It resembles a traditional European society with a medieval motif but within the modern setting#
- The name of the Kingdom is derived from the majority of its military force having robotic golems that resemble giant rooks. The Chess Kingdom’s lore is still uncertain and may be changed in the future.

Still my favorite post on Skullheart concerning Beatrix (headcanon-wise):

Beatrix:

Bela's rival is one of the main stars of the Cirque de Catres.

-The irony of working in a place that is fun to people then moonlighting with murdering is not lost on her.

-Different from Cerebella's story mode where the fall was dramatic, Bea's was a very smooth slope. Before the time she was doing hits for the mafia she was already to deep in the business. When she killed for the first time it was with a cool realization with what she was.

-The shows that are scripted by her are usually acclaimed by critiques and have a dedicated following, but small. In contrast to the other shows of the circus who are usually designed to draw smiles, her illusion shows are stories and tales that leaves salt in the eyes and bitterness in the mouth. Because of that most of her shows are scripted by other circus staff.

-When she still gave a damn she also scripted shows who would make a point. One of the most famous was "The Man who Knew no Math", where the main character was a poor sob who didn't understand interest makes a deal. After a few presentations the mafia loan sharks demanded it to be stopped because it was bad for business. After that her scripts started to be edited.

-While her circus presentations are good thanks to Bea's competence their quality is affected by the fact that she doesn't really get into them and because Beatrix HATES fake smiles. When she was pressured to do so she went the extra mile and gave one in the show. The reviewers said that if it had more warmth it could look like a lizard about to eat a baby chick. She never gives a genuine smile to make you feel good, there is always a hint of spite. She can smile for other reasons.

-She liked magic shows since she was a child. Is also a book reader. Her favorite genres are philosophy and fiction.

-She doesn't have any sentimental loyalty to anyone in the mob. If asked why she is still she will say that is to kill her boredom from time to time, the money is good enough, it is not exactly a job that you can leave and she sees little difference between for which gang you kill (gangsters, poor people, rich people, cops, the army).

-She won't answer, although she believes: Scum belongs with scum and I am just too apathetic to give a damn anymore.

-Has a really hard time connecting with people. Her relation with most mob members is just respectful professionalism. She can have a pleasant time with people and will remember names but it never lasts.

--She is cynical and jaded as hell. She thinks that all relationships, like human lives, are fated to end in one way or another and endure mainly on pleasure or comodism. Even authentic love ends and the heart goes on, and gets another love, and it ends, and goes on...

-She hates naivety and baseless optimism. That is one of the reasons she hates Cerebella: "It is like she can't smell all the blood around". She is not crazy about Hubrecht either considering him also a naive fool who is too touchy friendly. As for Feng, she considers her a good person with a bit more of perception of her surroundings. She will feel a bit sad if she will be the one to deal with her in the future.

-She is an efficient assassin. And while she gets a thrill from the job challenge she doesn't play around. She thinks begging, and twitching are annoying, and physical torture is bad taste. Most of the times her targets don't know what hit them. Also, she is well aware that illusions, like lies maintain their power while not exposed.

-She is an efficient assassin. She is the less noisy among the Medici murderers and excels in infiltrating in secure places. She considers her assassinations like magic shows done only to her target. While she is good at getting at her targets unnoticed she allows herself a moment of eccentricity. She usually gives her targets the realization that they are going to die even if it is just for a moment before finishing.

"The curtains of illusion falls and reality shows itself. And there is only death."

-Has a sense of sadism developed with her line of work and bitterness. She doesn't like physical torture, considering it distasteful. What she likes is the realization of a cruel truth.

Not a kid's show.

-Curiously she has no resentment towards cops, soldiers and avengers. It is just natural for bad people to be hated. She won't take the initiative to avenge a dead "comrade". But she will go after people who crosses her.

Oh hey, we can gameplay speculate again, how amazing!

So what do you guys think, would her throwing knives suit her to projectile keepaway or would she be more like Valentine with the ability to pressure at a distance, but would excel at close range? How involved would her knives be in all her attacks, would they become as integral to her normals as Krieg is to Parasoul or would she be more like Peacock and just pull anything and everything out of nowhere to attack with? How exactly would the painful repercussions of flubbing her tricks be integrated into a balanced playstyle? Would she be able to counter? Teleport? Would her cloak only be used to cancel projectiles?

And can this be one of her blockbusters please?

Definitely a favorite of mine, she'd do wonders expanding the Crique de Cartes part of the story, as well as the Mafia's.

The rough thing about her is that she can be written off as part of the supporting cast rather than a protagonist, which I reckon is why some stayed away from her during the poles. (Which is also the sole reason I support both Eliza and Beowulf becoming playable, although both are far from my first picks.)

Still I root for her, she'd have an awesome voice/personality and some rad gameplay potential.

I can tell you for a fact most people shyed away from her because she wasn't "pretty".

She ironically became hotter with every new instance where she's shown up, from Cerebella's story to in the Casino.

Is that why nobody voted for Annie?
(Sorry. I lash out because I am still not over Hive going out in the second round...)

You're really on to something here DDB...

I hope the future brings us more, even sexier, Beartixes!

I think the reason for shying away (at least for me) is that she seems more like an assist rather then a playable character. Here me out! she along with the other circus performers seem like they would work better in a group. The ring leader would be the the leader and the performers would do the attacks. It's like how I feel Minette would be better as a Ms. Fortune or Yu-Wang assist like Maya from Umvc3.

It makes me happy that people liked it enough to remember.

A favorite of mine from the old headcannons topic was Brain Drain's Dragon Vultures. That one was born from a joint plot storm.

Regina really suffered from that. Having a non standard face with little fanservice.

The characters (and real people for the matter) can be great but to attract attention and be chosen you have to do good marketing.

It would be cool to imagine..

keyword "imagine" (dont axe me off for anything related to gameplay speculation plz)

Would initially throw a set of knives, and for each one that is blocked leaves them to be pickedup off the ground to refuel the set number of knives thrown (Think of Cody from SF4 and his knive throwing technique)

You know gameplay speculation is allowed now, right?

She could also play similar to Sayuka from Soku, minus the time manipulation power of course.
Perhaps bulkier too.

With that cape of hers, think she'd have a move like the Villager from Smash? Catch a projectile and use it later, or just outright reflect it?

That cape opens up a lot of possibilities, not just for her knives (storm of knives wud be cul, though), but the description said props in general, which opens up so many more possibilities.

Given that Anakaris is listed as one of the inspirations, I would assume it would have been that she uses it later, as that is what anakaris does.

Just something that'd be funny. If she could pull tht whole dart board trick from the cape of Damocles, could she use the cape like that sword box magic trick? It'd be interesting to see. I'm really interested in what that cape can do. It's honestly the only really interesting part to me.

For some reason this thread reminds me of this.
