Skullgirls was my first, and so far favorite, fighting game and I really want to get more into fighters. What other fighting games would I enjoy that are like SG?

I bought Persona 4 Arena after buying Skullgirls and I love that game.
Try Guilty Gear as well, I hear it's good.

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 or 3

Guilty Gear

CVS2 perhaps
I was looking at BlazBlue, but since both of you are recommending it and it's made by the same people, I think I'll look into Guilty Gear instead. Thanks for the input.

Marie Rose is making me consider DOA 5. I mean, damn son, dem twintails.

BlazBlue works too, either or really.

Play Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.
it's like a non-broken sequel to Mahvel 1. I think it's pretty great.
Darkstalkers is an inspiration for SG as well, so maybe that's something you might like.

DOA5 is real good, too. Can't go wrong with anything Dead Or Alive.

Melty blood or Under Night In-Birth are good picks as well.
Their both made by the same team, Melty is free(ish since everyone pirates it and nobody cares because the only way to get the PC version was to buy some shitty under-stocked anime dvd that never made it out of japan) and on PC, UNIB is ps3 only at the moment (iirc they said something about pc maybe eventually) and newer so it has a more active community.

Guilty Gear is one of the few fighting games I can think of where I want to play every character because they are all so good. Sure I have my preferences but the entire cast is very designed and each character feels unique and balanced...as long as you're playing +R because in AC+ Kliff and Justice are broken as all heck.

Play Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

I liked TvC as well. Could have used some more polish but it was a good fighter and something my Wii needed.

I think people have forgotten to ask the important question - What is it about SG that you like? The pace? Team mechanics? Art? Combos?

pick it up. it's very fun and a great 3D fighter. but get the PS3 version... and don't buy the costumes in game if you get it on xbox.

also, pick up VF5: FS, the online is dead but it's still really fun to play.

also, if you're interested in Guilty Gear and Blazblue, get P4 Arena. it's kind of a mix of both and it has a very long story mode. so it's worth the dropped down price if you don't plan to play online.

Fap Dead or Alive is pretty popular

Anything can't go wrong with Marvel Vs. Capcom

If you wanna get bloody, try the latest Mortal Kombat (or the earliests, before 3D [I enjoyed the 3D ones, but the 2D-like are way much better]) or Killer Instinct

can't go wrong with Marvel Vs. Capcom
MvC1. Checkmate.

My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic Tribute Edition

Marvel Super Heroes
Guilty Gear
Street Fighter Alpha 3

Marvel Vs Capcom 2

Skullgirls is THE spiritual successor to this game, and far, far, far moreso than Mvc3. SG's engine is heavily based on mvc2, following similar (but tweaked) rules in regards to things like otg's, assist calls, chaining, etc. The move set design also follows much of the same "logic" of the pre mvc3 Marvel games (not counting x-cota which is radically different).

That being said, it's not a game for everyone. It's notoriously unbalanced, with the top 10 characters (don't listen to the people who say there are only 4 characters, at least ten or more are viable and show up in high level tournament play regularly) feeling like they came from an entirely different game than the rest of the cast. But if you can get into it, mvc2 is one of the most magical video games out there. It nails everything, strategy, simplicity, pacing, depth, a sense of manic movement and action, and just feels good to play at all times. As Justin Wong once put it "When I play 2 hours of Street Fighter, I just want to take a break and play something else. When I play 2 hours of Marvel 2, I just want to play more."

Vampire Savior

Fast paced, stylish air dash fighter with some of the funkiest and detailed character designs and animations around, and some of the best gameplay in the genre backing it up.

On the surface it might seem similar to Skullgirls and Marvel, but it's radically different in terms of playstyle and engine. Air movement and mobility is a bit more limited and unsafe than it is in Marvel/Skullgirls, but in some ways the games offense factor is even more brutal and out of control. Chaining and mixing up stylish block strings and ultra fast quick movements allows you to jump all over your opponent and rush them down to oblivion if they let you. Even a second of hesitation or blocking can lead to crippling mix ups in this game. It's all about offense, a lightning fast game of chess where pushing an opponent into the corner even for a second is the equivalent of a "check" and forces them to immediately take some desperate course of action if they don't want to get check-mated. The emphasis on short combos and blindingly fast defensive and offensive options means that defenseIf you like your games HOT BLOODED AS HELL than this is the one for you.

It's also a relatively well balanced game. The character roster is diverse with tons of unique and fun characters, pretty much all of which are viable for competitive play (except maybe Anakaris). While the top characters are very imposing, even the low tiers take them down regularly in tournament play.

Try everything

Dead or Alive 5 (can buy full version unlock or just what chars you want), Tekken Revolution and Killer Instinct all have free to play variants, you can try these easy.

Then there's Guilty Gear XX AC+R, 3rd Strike, Darkstalkers Ressurection (which has DS2 and the more important DS3 AKA Vampire Savior), Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, King of Fighters 13 (also on Steam) which I think are all available via PSN Store.

Then there's Persona 4 Arena Ultimax or whatever, Blazblue Chrono Phantasm, SF4 Ultra, Tekken Tag 2, Soul Calibur 5, Smash 4 just to mention what I think is currently available in stores.

Under Night In Birth requires a JPN Psn and JPN PSN money card thing.

I think Marvel vs Capcom 2 got pulled from the webstores.

If you want to emulate, the world is your oyster.

Bold is fighters that have a little influence on Skullgirls. Blue are 3D fighters.

Vanguard Princess is a thing... that looks fun... or something

I've never played it, but its another 2D fighting game that looks alright. There is a free version of the game, but it's all in Japanese, however you can get the English one on steam for $5.

For me, it's the depth of the characters, particularly Peacock and Marie. I think she's the first fighting game boss that isn't just a moustache-twirling evildoer/cult leader

if you like SG.... play Guilty Gear, MvC2, Melty Blood, and Arcana heart 3

I can confirm it's fun to play with friends.

Good luck with the fan made netplay though.

Vanguard Princess is weird as hell mechanically and controller support doesn't seem to work right.

if you really want a waifu fighter you're probably better off with Love Max.

The mechanics aren't weird, they're just different. It's a pretty fun game once you get used to the tag team fighting system.

Tekken 6, and TTT2 (#BuffLars)
and SF4 series and SF series

The old touhou fighters are interesting because almost all of the attacks are projectiles. you might like those =\

Marvel vs Capcom comes close to the SG style.
SF games are overall great for serious and fun matches.
DOA is good, but I prefer Tekken.

Sg's engine is basically just a tweaked mvc engine (excluding 3 which is different) with the IPS added on.
