Steam - Windows PC Danisen League

Not forcin' matches, but encorage the hell outta players to really fight and climb these ranks.

What if you earn less points when you win vs someone you already won against?

For example: Let's say you earn 2 points per win and it takes 8 points to rank up, but every time you win vs someone you already played, the points you earn is reduced until it reaches 0 and you get no points from beating that person.

Match 1: 2 points
Match 2: 0.5 point
Match 3: 0.25 points
Match 4+: 0 points

This way you can get only a max of 2.75 points for beating the same person over and over again while needing 8 to rank up. This means that you would have to beat either 4 different people in 1 set each, or 3 different people in 3 sets each (9 matches total). If you hit 8+ points, you rank up. The same could be done for losses (lose less points per loss vs same person).

However, we could make losses have different values from wins (and possibly down ranking could have a different threshold).

Like, let's say Dan 0 or 1 has no penalty for a loss, then in rank 2 to whatever, you get -1 point for a loss, then when you reach a higher bracket of dans, it's -2 points for a loss. These can also be reduced if you lose to the same person more than once.

Also, what if we allowed playing people outside your dan, but if you do, you get +1 for a win per dan rank they are higher than you and you lose -1 points for a loss per dan rank they are lower than you.

Example: Dan 4 vs Dan 3, Dan 3 would get +3 for a win and -1 for a loss while the dan 4 would get +1 for a win and -2 for a loss.

Let me know when we have finalized new rules. I'm totally down with playing this still.

No. We're keeping current rules as far as teams/chars go. -That's the point of Danisen.- You will be able to unlock a second team with it's own Dan Ranking when you reach Dan 5. Then that second team would have to reach Dan 5 for a third, and so on and so forth, as the OP says itself.

Character Lock remains a rule, you are locked into the order you registered as, and may only change order on a loss.
Really I think the only thing that changes is, Dan 1 has a minimum score of 0, streams will be made within... 2 weeks, and there's a working, manageable database to run it, now.

So, be careful with the team registrations. If you want to register a new team, and you haven't hit Dan 5 with all teams beforehand, you will have to overwrite your last team with the new team. Alright? Alright.

It's 12 wins without any losses, +1 for every other loss, and once the league gets going we should have diverse range of opponents accross the thing. Will it take you time? Yeah, but hey, may as well play a FT24 if that puts things into perspective. It'll be fine.

so since you can't make a new team without removing your old team why are there a bunch of people registered twice with different teams in the rankings? just for records of old teams? cause I kind of want to get rid of them, it's more confusing than anything else, especially since you have to match the name no one is gonna remember to type "Stuff (2)" or something

Please change my team to solo Parasoul.

I have no idea but I do have a theory
Nobody read all the rules or nobody cared about all of them 'til now
Within this coming week I'll start harassing for team lockins and stuff so that way we can get this party started come post Combo Breaker, but right now I'm grinding so hard, for money, my local monthly next week and CB the week after

well I know the reason we kept the old teams in there was for record keeping purposes but I feel like it's more of a pain than it's worth to keep the old teams in the same database if it's gonna be more automated like this.

is this still alive? If anybody wants some 1st Dan matches I'll be on tonight ~8:30-9pm EST, look for me in the steam group chat

since it seems like this is going to be the way to report matches moving forward, @keninblack could we get this added to the OP when you get a chance? Thank you :)

It's been awhile since this thread's been touched. I liked how fired up I got months back and then be like dead silent ever since Combo Breaker, and now I'm just, too chill. @Shamanlord, what's the status on the database? The server's not up atm. (Which is reasonable because rofl this thing is kinda deaaad)

I'm going to be still occupied with life things for quite some time and I imagine the semester, but I would still like to see this happen and going, and may occasionally drop on in for streams, but no promises. If -anyone- wants to host a weekly stream for PC Danisen League, it is more than open to anyone to host. If I had to nominate folks, it'd be @Midiman, and also @Kstacks because he's been REALLY wanting to see this happen sometime (everyone's noted that he's had [1st Dan] on his steam name for the past several months, right?).

To solidify things, as far as the rules go, it's still the standard Dan league, except, you can't go below 0 points at Dan 1. Everyone starts at Dan 1, as opposed to EU's "Trial Dan 0" thing (because it kind of complicates things for existing players who have registered). Sometime I'll be asking around the players to register their teams, or confirm that they want to keep their currently registered team up or hard reset down to Dan 1 with a new team. Which for quick reference, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lQRZsKxQiI5vdA_FlMiC6Hd5Z0iqyu0ErJS9B7MTW7s/edit?pli=1#gid=0 is the current spreadsheet, whose last revision I can't see, but it seems like it was last changed in February, based on the Match History page of the spreadsheet.

This is gonna be a little rough trying to whip up things again, but, here goes nothing, I guess.

i took it down because I needed the ethernet cord for something else ayyy
i'll put it back up if there's demand though, server is still perfectly intact

Just to clear things out, the Dan 0 idea was just a suggestion that we didn't incorporate in the rules in the end, for similar reasons.
Way it works for EU is the same as you're proposing here, which is everyone starting at Dan 1 and not going below 0 points in that specific Dan.

I actually enjoyed the Danisen stream you guys used to have so if my internet upgrade works out, I want to stream it.
My question is which day would you guys prefer for this to happen?

Even tho I can't watch streams due to poor internet, I support this.

Been needing and calling a bit around for a stream hoster. It would be much appreciated, as I can no longer push for this, much less play Skullgirls for at least maybe 2 months, though as it stands the spreadsheet also needs a little cleaning up (multiple teams) from last time I saw it and it would be good to reaffirm players teams and whether they want to start anew or not.

I wish you and all good luck.

Bring back Danisen.

Who misses me running the dan league?
Quick question: what if we start the whole league over from fresh and add something that motivate players to get back in the league?

I can't stream or anything but if someone does decide to get the league running again hmu and I'll rehost the database/reporting page, I took it down cause figured I might as well save the power/bandwidth but I'm more than happy to put it back up if people will use it. If we do a rule/system change to try to motivate people I can put it into the site just let me know.

I've got zero qualms gunning my bandwidth over for a good cause. I wouldn't mind streaming / co-hosting with @worldjem either :^)

@Pickles times like this I kind of wish that Heroku free hosting did not vanish, because that would be slightly useful in this case. I don't know if other services exist similar to it that have a compelling free tier.

I mean the bandwidth isn't really a problem, I doubt people are gonna be flooding the thing but if it ends up being an issue I'll have to look around, though again I don't expect it to be. It's mostly just that I ended up needing the cable that it was using for something else, and I never bothered putting it back up since even the little bit of power it uses is more than zero, which is the amount of people that were using it.

The point is that hosting a database isn't an issue at all; getting players is.

Well let me ask everyone this:
We can just continue the rankings the way it is
-or-
We can reset everything and start over from 0 and I'll giveaway a prize (prize to be determine but possibly around $20 worth) to the first person who can make it to 6th Dan.
@worldjem do you prefer to keep track of all the matches by yourself or would like me or someone of your choosing to help out?

I wouldn't mind resetting everyone to 0 and have people re-sign up because not everyone was very active anyway when it was going on.
Also, it's been a while and people could have switched teams by now and they might want to sign up with that new team.

I wouldn't mind setting up a google doc with select people being able to update it as long as the format I laid out is adhered to, but I'm kind of more interested in that reporting page Pickles was talking about. That'd be way easier to use than people posting in the thread then having to manually go through them and update the spreadsheet.

I think another thing to bring up is, how much do we want to count in terms of dan matches? Should we have the stream day be the day where everyone plays or do we want to keep it open where anyone can play whenever?

If you want to give out a prize that's good incentive but even without it I would cast a vote to reset rankings just because it's been so long people's teams might not even be the same, skill levels will be different, etc.

Also the point of having my score reporting page is so that people can report their own matches and it doesn't have to be "managed", although I will be monitoring reports for anything suspicious. The rankings/match history will be public so if anyone sees something they don't agree with they can bring it up here or to me. The idea I had in mind was for the "organizer" of the league to have the role of arranging matches/events, not having to track all the matches.

I feel like a stream would be good way to track matches and maybe get some hype for the league. Also, you can even do different days/times for different Dans and if other ppl want to help stream.

Having on the stream day would be easier to track. Since I don't plan on playing anyway, if I'm the one streaming. Gives me a incentive to get into commentary as well. But I guess we'll see what everyone says.

I was gonna volunteer to provide a prize anyway but I feel it would be better to start over since it has been a while.

I don't think everyone should have to reset to 0, but you know what, I got a copy of Serious Sam XXL to give out for those wanting it I suppose. Been trying to give that game spare game out. May have a few other game keys lying around, too, I'll check.

As for a stream day, I think I might be able to lend a hand to help commentate. Or host. Either of those are a BIG maybe, personal issues got my hands tied, etc. I was kinda thinking Tuesday or Wednesday would be fitting stream days considering there are other scheduled streams on all the other days.

How would you give prizes for this?

Like, how would the winner be defined?

Hahahah, I didn't give it that much thought when 6-let suggested it except I'll just give away this game

...How WOULD you give prizes for this? I don't think it's really possible, it's not a tourney of any kind. Save the prizes for your streams and online tourneys 6-let.

You guys probably didn't see the post on a previous page. If everyone agrees to start over in the rankings, it would be a race to 6th Dan. First player who gets to 6th Dan will win the prize.

Shoutouts to Puertorican ISP for making my life impossible to get better internet.
Anyway I'll be live streaming soon and I'm not sure if everyone who used to be on the league is still interested into coming back.
