Peacock Gameplay General

I'm pretty sure I've beaten Giant step with argus on reaction several times. But if you're too late to reaction I think you could trade or get hit out of the startup.

@IsaVulpes

I did some training mode and although you technically can Argus a Giant Step on reaction, it doesn't get you much because the Argus generally loses. I hadn't thought about the fact that Argus only has four invul frames now; this probably worked at some point in time but definitely no longer does. You can however teleport, fake teleport, or Lenny on reaction. The teleports would probably get punished by a cancel into SSJ even if you super cancelled them, but from full screen I don't think Lenny would, and it seems like if you Lenny early enough you have time to Argus and it punishes the recovery of Giant Step.

Interestingly it doesn't seem like M Gun on reaction keeps you safe from Giant Step. I'm not really clear on why that would be the case; is Giant Step not considered a strike? It's sure as shit not a throw (just to be really sure I tried to L Gun on reaction and that gets counter hit too).

I know you can reflect it with bella(there was something about it changing but idk if it stuck), don't really know all the properties of the moves tho.

I'm looking for assistance regarding two Peacock-related problems.

1.My friend plays solo Big Band, and trying to keep him away is a nightmare. Pardon me if I'm sounding like a complete scrub, but what works on most ranked fights (HP Bang, charge SoID while tossing Georges and j.HP when close) gets shut down fairly quickly. More specifically, almost every projectile gets parried, attempts at Argus get SSJ'd, and teleports to try and widen the gap end up caught by HP and Brass Knuckles.

2.I currently run Peacock/Parasoul as they're my favorite two characters and seem to work well together. Lately it seems that the team is becoming less and less viable and I'm looking to add a third member. What would be the best character to work with these two?

Big Band parrying your projectiles isn't inherently a problem. He still takes damage for a successful parry, so if he's just standing there at full screen parrying everything, as Peacock you're fine with that; he's taking damage and he's not making progress towards getting in. If he's jumping forward and air parrying your projectiles, that's more of an issue. Only way you can really get around that is varying the timing of your projectiles to make them more difficult to parry.

Teleport is sort of a bad idea in general against Big Band since he can SSJ it on reaction, which autocorrects if you did an H teleport. However, if he's in the air, he can't SSJ, so that's a safe-ish time to go for teleports.

Quoting myself from a page back, maybe you'll find this helpful:

I was messing around in training mode the other day trying to figure out why Big Band's H Brass Knuckles sometimes hits from full screen (without a kara) and sometimes doesn't. It's basically because some of Peacock's projectile attacks move her forward enough that full screen Brass will connect. Specifically, s.HP, L George, M George, and H Gun will all get punched if Big Band decides it is time to punch. H George gets punched sometimes but not others; there are some frames where the hurtbox is far enough back that the punch will whiff, and other frames where that's not the case. So basically H George can get punched sometimes. All versions of item drop seem totally safe (unless they kara).

Something that I also think may help is just ground backdashing and waiting to see what Big Band does. If he does nothing, you could also do nothing, or drop an item. If he moves forward or jumps, you know he's not able to Brass for at least a little while, so you can safely throw out a couple bombs. If he does Brass, it'll whiff since you're backdashing, and you can punish with Argus, OR you can go for the gold at the Beijing Olympics and drop a Lenny THEN Argus (this always works on Big Band even in retail because of how big and fat he is).

Giant Step isn't nearly as threatening, you can LENNY it on reaction. But if you have no meter I guess watch out.

e: Oops I totally missed the second question. Uh the classic Peacock partners are Bella (LnL assist) or Big Band (either H Brass or L Beat Extend) so maybe try one of them out and see if you like playing them.

I wasn't aware that he took damage when he parries. Thanks for the advice. And I don't own BB or have the money for any DLC so I guess I'll try Bella. Thanks for the help!

When doing Peacock's j.MP when doing an airdash cancel do you have to hear the sound cue to combo into j.LP?

Well, the j.mp has to hit first but if you adc immediately on hit you should be able to hit the j.lp

I play with the sounds off, so probably not.

What specifically is the combo you're trying to do?

This.

Do we know how the rng for steam roller works? I am kinda confused by this. Obviously it was something to do with the save state, but I thought it would change each time after moving around etc.

In my experience if you get road roller, you need to clear your state, charge all the way up to level 3, drop the road roller, then create a new state. Otherwise you'll get road roller every time.

Is comboing into George (HK/Lk) or (Mk/Lk) not worth it because I never see it and its not that hard to do

I forget to do that. If you time it right you can go for a throw between the bomb hits.

I've tried it but it doesn't seem to do more damage than the Beat Extend combos so I just do those.

H Giant Step is actually a throw. You can L Gun, not M Gun it. Not particularly good for anything but saying, "Hey, did you know Giant Step is technically a throw? I play to teach my opponent things."

Edit - it's kinda useful for giving you a much bigger window of invincibility to do an Argus (or Lenny -> Argus if you reacted to the first twitch of the Giant Step). You just have to commit to cancelling out of the L Gun immediately.

Also:

It's sure as shit not a throw (just to be really sure I tried to L Gun on reaction and that gets counter hit too).

I skipped over this reading that post originally. Guess this changed in some random patch, 'cause L Gun avoids it clean with almost any timing in beta now.

H Giant Step - the move that is both a throw and a projectile, while looking like neither.

The Peacock compendium has been updated to reflect the changes made in the Beowulf patch. Please let me know if you see any mistakes or omissions. I put one mistake in on purpose to test you. Thank you.

I think I found the mistake

-It is possible to react to Parasoul’s sniper shot with Lonesome Lenny. Lenny has enough invincibility frames to completely avoid the sniper. After avoiding the sniper in this way, Parasoul can be punished by teleporting and doing a string or with Argus Agony.

Can't dodge Sniper that way anymore since it waits around for vulnerability.

I didn't actually look around I was just looking at the Parasoul section lol

Good catch. I will miss being able to do that, or in general being able to challenge Sniper in any way. I deleted that and made a few other changes to the character specific sections.

So I broke Peacock's ground throw on reaction out of nowhere when playing with a mate offline. Looking at it in training mode, it has a MASSIVE visual tell with the bag coming out on 4th frame of startup. Hits on 8th frame, +13 throw tech window, -2 frames from frameskip, and you've got 15 frames to react to a massive huge bag and tech it. If you know what the very first frame of her throw animation looks like you've got 18f~? to react to it.

Difficult by numbers but I was focused at the time, so I think in the long term when top players learn that skill building exists this will soften Peacock's grounded mixup game. Her air throw is still unseeable and level 2 item drop exists so whatevs.

I need solocock midscreen shenanigans.

My corner pressure with this bitch already makes my insides a rainforest but I need that solocock midscreen DUHURT let me get iiiiiiiit.

pressure and resets are hard solo but you could maybe try comboing bombs for high/low? and ever since the slide buff crossunder L george will somtimes leave you too far for conversion

Hmmmm @ninja-nutria halp

Also cool i'll mess with that, it just seems like pressuring with midscreen HK bomber can't lead to anything because if you hit they're full screen ;_; I'll stay labbin doe. I just need a video of someone just fuhlessin.

You really aren't going to open anyone up with solo peacock. Most hits you will land are just the opponent pressing the wrong button at the wrong time. Best you got is oki off a throw or something. Unless you are looking for resets?

Made this a while back, doesn't really apply too much to your case though since you use HK Hornet Bomber. Maybe it'll give you an idea or something. HK Hornet Bomber is one of the few good assists that still lets you do HK Teleport Crossups too.

Eliza would be a better choice but I thought since I recorded these a few seconds ago I'd post it

mmmm, you can try my lenny setups though, people dont like them since you use meter. and there was one bait burst that tj or worldjem taught me.

non-player related question: why the AI only blocks the first part of Argus, taking free hits when the small lasers come?

This is probably known already, but it's new to me. I've been looking for a nice way to perform assist+special reliably and peacock's always been a problem since her bombs tend to get priority. Just now I found that you can make it a bit more reliable (but perhaps a little slow? not sure) with this style of input

MP+HK(hold) qcf (release MP) which gives you an assist plus MP bang.

Okay so after learning this combo for Peacock:
I found out the part where you attack in the air can actually be used as a Burst bait after an air throw.
Like this:
The only problem is it's sort of a 50/50.

I am contributing more to Peacock threads than Double threads. whatamidoing.jpg

I spent some time last night trying to punish tags with H gun xx Lenny > Argus. It turns out that this does not punish all tags. Or maybe it does but it's definitely not the easiest punish against some of them. There's definitely a range where linking into Argus from H gun xx Lenny is much more difficult if not impossible, and a lot of tags put the characters in at that spacing. Anyways just so no one else has to go through all this work I'll put all my findings here:

Cerebella, Peacock, Fortune, Fukua, Robo Fortune: If they tag from full screen you can always H Gun xx Lenny > Argus to punish. If they're a little closer than full screen I find it's a bit easier to punish with s.HP xx Lenny > Argus, but that one isn't hit confirmable so do not miss the punish.

Filia, Painwheel, Beowulf: Even from full screen these tags put these characters almost right next to you so just dash up and hit them with a normal, no need for spending meter. If you react late to Filia tag you can still do something like c.HK xx punch move xx Lenny > Argus but that's a harder combo after because you use your OTG. I didn't actually test Beowulf but I bet it's super easy to punish so whatever, I mean he is RIGHT next to you.

Eliza: Here's a weird one. Because of the angle the bird dive kick man takes, this will never put Eliza at full screen. She'll always be just a little closer than that, and as a result the H gun xx Lenny > Argus punish is tighter than usual. s.HP seems like a better way to go than H Gun but again it's not hit confirmable and this tag recovers fast so like do not miss the punish. Maybe you could also s.HP xx H Gun xx Lenny > Argus, I didn't test that because I JUST thought of it as of writing this post, but maybe that pushes Eliza far enough back that the link to Argus isn't too hard.

Parasoul: Another weird one. H Gun will hit airborne if you do it too early and the combo into the bomb explosion won't work as a result. If you do it too late the motorcycle will hit you. The motorcycle's active hitbox seems to go away if you hit it with any projectile, or if it runs into Lenny (which is kinda funny). s.HP xx Lenny > Argus I think is the best option.

Valentine: From full screen the tag won't make contact, if you don't block it you can punish with s.HP xx Lenny > Argus but it's actually kinda tough because she's so close to you. Punch move might be better but again it's a harder follow up combo. If you block the tag from max range I don't actually think you can punish, I couldn't find anything. If you jump over the tag it's an easy punish but you have to read it to do that, I don't believe you can react. Maybe you can teleport on reaction to punish, again, didn't think of that until I started writing this post.

Big Band: Again if you read this you can super jump make it whiff and get a big fat punish. If you don't read it, you do not have time for H gun or s.HP, but you can react with punch move. Because of how big and fat Big Band is the combo off punch move is not as hard as it is on other characters, but I still think it's pretty tricky. Maybe you can chicken block on reaction to punish it but every time I tried that I just got hit. This tag is annoying. I'm going to start doing it a lot more.

Squigly, Double: Do whatever you want, if you can't react to and punish these tags then idk what to tell you lmao.

I'm thinking for Parasoul and Eliza, can't you just raw Lenny xx Argus to punish it?

For Parasoul, Lenny eats the hit. For Eliza, if you have time to s.hp, you have time to Lenny xx Argus

That does work yeah. I think s.HP is significantly better since you get that +50 undizzy tho.
