Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

Atlus hates breaking canon, so unless they do some crazy resurrection crap, the only choice there that Atlus would even think of doing would be Theo.
 
They pulled some crazy crap to keep Shadow Labrys around. Anything goes.
 
Eh, that was based on prior plot points established back in Arena. I don't really see how Zen & Rei (more likely just Zen) or P3MC would be justified and neither Nanako nor Dojima would be able to function in the Dark Hour or the TV world.
 
I'm opening up a lobby. Labeling it "Skullheart."
 
I'll be honest, even if they did add a new rerelease with more characters, I'd buy it, assuming there's a really good character I like/want in it.
I mean there's nothing stopping me from getting CPEX so shrug.

Guess we'll see when the arcade hits

I don't like the Liz Mahamaon/Mamudoon change on the IK conditions. Wouldn't it be simpler to do something like forcing death when the opponent is hit with fear or negative penalty?
 
I'm having some trouble figuring out what changes there were to Labrys in the last vid. Anyone care to elaborate if they can? Does 5B have faster startup or something? I'm confused.

Edit: nvm looked up the changes on dustloop. She getting her old P4A axe levels back and levels degrade slower now. Also C and SB bull rush give massive amounts of axe levels now. Her DP also getting buffed on block, which was greatly needed since her DP is pretty much just a gimmick at best. Mostly buffs which is greatly needed for everyone's favorite walking talking toaster.

The new update will be out on Jan 15th for JP arcades. We'll probably see more videos then.

Random stuff: navigators are a unique aspect for a fighting game that adds to the fun for me. Also still trying to clear Lv.200 of Risky G.Arena. I had Die For Me, but my brother discarded it during the week, so I need to get it again to stand a chance. Working on unlocking all the P-Card icons too (no rush).

And trying to get above l.blue color card (so strange that beating someone above l.blue doesn't help). And get Margaret & Theo narrators by getting the level up.
 
i got a copy of p4au with a decent price and it ended up being one of those editions with the teddie balloon because it was last copy in the store.

anything I should know about this game? (i already pre-downloaded adachi/marie when they were free a few weeks ago)

So I have vanilla and was wondering if Ultimax is worth getting? I'm interested in Rise, Marie, and Margaret. How do they play/ who do the play like from other arc systems games? Also, how's the online?
 
I'll speak to Rise since I play her. She's considered relatively high tier. She's a bit light on the damage, especially without meter. To really maximize her damage output (which is important since it is low), you're looking at a BnB, a metered BnB, a combo for when your opponent is crouching, a corner combo, and a combo when your opponent is crouching in the corner. You get extra points for having a counter combo as well. Basically, some of her specials won't link if the opponent isn't counting or the hit isn't a counter.

She is a pretty solid hybrid. She's got a decent ranged game which is usually used to lock them down and get in to start her decent close-up game. She has a pretty dope reversal that will get you killed if you are too predictable with it. She's got a DDR special that does absurd damage.
 
-Using the little explosions by setting off music notes with mic attacks makes for some really interesting blockstrings/cross ups
-SP Platinum Disc da gawd
-use DP only in extreme situations (which means use it all the time because Rise's fight personality makes everything all excitable)
-Full screen D ground and air Persona hits more than you think
-Use Arrow Rain wisely and also actually use it because so few Rises I see use it and it's such a good move in certain situations and makes combos look pretty why u no rain down
-use dance super on predictable Yu's using Swift Strike to get in for maximum voltage
-sweep > ROCK YOU B or Platinum Disc B is best oki tool omg

I also play her for the DDR


But not as much as I play her for the Detective Loveline color

Agreed on her D. Learning to use it is kind of the first level up you get with her (at first your persona get hit all the damn time).

Also, 2C... *drool*. A bit of start up, but once it's out... lockdown for days.

Didn't get through all of it, but my thoughts on Rise changes for those that care:

- A and B changes are going to make her poke game a bit better (right now, she mostly tries to lock you down to open you up, or IAD jB).
- Less lockdown on Cs is no fun, but hopefully the A/B buffs help make up for it. Looks like easier scan state with 2C > D which is always good (and fun... scan state happens too rarely and is too fun).
- D is better. Stays out even if Persona trades is a nice lockdown and faster recovery is awesome since that thing has like a minute of recovery time.
- jB nerf is the suck, but it still hits overhead so Rise everywhere are sighing in relief. It is probably our best normal (or was?).
- AoA buffs are nice. I like that (almost?) everyone now gets a safe overhead like a Dust. Makes mix-ups better on the characters that didn't have great mix-ups.
- DP losing counter hit is amazing. You'll still eat a punish if you whiff it... but at least it isn't likely game ending.
- Music note changes are good. As it is, they are awfully easy to see coming if you've played Rise once. Now that lockdown from the notes will hopefully play a bigger role outside of Oki.
- SB arrow rain causing paralyze is the sex.

Overall, net buff me thinks.

Also, Yukari and SLab both seemed to get buffs to ease their execution (decreased start-up on feather shot!) meaning I may end up dropping Rise for either of them... both of which interested me first but put me off due to execution requirements. Also, Liz buffs look promising and she's my first love.
 
Going through Labrys' stuff, it's all just buffs buff buffs, and I love it. Just jotting down my thoughts on the big things.

-22A+B now tracks and has faster startup. Removing the C+D versions is fine since it becomes redundant. They're no longer needed.
-C orb now boomerangs around and sticks around longer. Goes without saying it helps to control space better.
-Axe level is now back to base green instead of base blue. Blue axe sucks. Hell to do a lot of the real BnBs you need at least yellow axe, so to get there sooner, why thank you very much
-Axe levels now maintain longer. Self explanatory hell yea!
-2B just getting buffs galore, being dash cancellable now and added untech time and improved head invincibility
-Guillotine getting buffed, never really had that much of a problem with guillotine, but I'll take it
-Her DP getting some MUCH NEEDED buffs, seriously most Labrys players don't ever use this. It's way too risky and really predictable. You'd have to hope your opponent is wearing a blindfold
-AoA is meh. I never use it anyway so increased recovery won't affect me that much.
-Persona being invincible for all C moves until active frames is really good for adding pressure if you space it properly. Don't have to worry about her getting stuffed trying to get some mid range pressure. Also nailing people with 2C I just find amusing, idk why.
-So far the only nerf I saw was 5C no longer being jump cancellable, which kinda sucks but luckily Labrys isn't too overly reliant on her persona to do damage. Think I'm gonna enjoy this.
 
Yeah, I'm glad to hear about these changes for the most part & am looking forward to them hitting consoles around the globe soon. In the meantime... anyone up for some games Fri/Sat?

I haven't played SG in a year and I'm still pretty garbage tier at GG to play anyone.
