Except LoK and Transformers played very differently from Bayo...

Even when they have very little dev time and budget, PG is still able to make games with amazing combat systems that are really fun to play even if their stories aren't great and they're a bit short. So long as these smaller games keep having strong combat systems then I see no problem with them, after all, without them Platinum probably wouldn't be able to make the Bayonettas or W101s and they'd have to play everything a lot more safe.

Even though our company was founded by a group of people with a decent amount of experience in the video game industry, our name recognition in the beginning was obviously nonexistent. We weren’t really in the position to make a big fanfare about establishing our company, either.
I distinctly remember setting sail quietly, without really being noticed by consumers.
But our goal right from the start was to create high-quality video games, and we’ve been working towards that goal ever since.​

We released our first title in 2009. We used the publicity for that product to introduce ourselves to the world, and by the time the game was on shelves, we’d finally managed to establish a clear profile as a company. I strongly feel that we are still able to take our straightforward stance towards game development today thanks to a decade of support from the many fans who play our games. I am very grateful to all of you for this support.​

In recent years, perhaps slightly presumptuously, we’ve adopted the slogan “Taking on the World as the Representative of Japan.”
Japan used to lead the worldwide video game industry, but we can’t help but feel that it has lost some of its vitality in recent years.
Yet we are using this state of affairs to motivate and inspire ourselves.
If there is any conclusion that can be gleaned from this statement, it’s that we are dependent on the continued support of our fans.​

you joke but that could be a fun feature in some future game

On topic, they talked about the new characters in a press release after the concert/gameplay demo, here. The gist of it is that the boy robot, 9S, is a total nerd, and the woman with the tattered clothes, A2, is a prototype to the current robots and is an angry woman.

I'm super hyped for this game and sad that it didn't get very much publicity at E3. It and Gravity Rush 2 were probably the games I came off of the show feeling the most excited about.

Also Taro Yoko is a precious gift please never leave us you crazy skeleton man
 
Interviewer: It feels like a 3D representation of a classic bullet hell game.
Taro: I actually want to create a 2D shooter, but Square-Enix is not allowing me to do that, so this is where I'm letting all of my [???] out.
Square Enix guy: You might be able to create it with Taito.
Interviewer: What are some of your favorite shooters?
Taro: I like Cave shooters where there are a lot of bullets coming at you.

They showed off walking around in a town and some more general combat on a stream.

Dunno if this was mentioned anywhere before, but they're doing a Granblue fantasy game


I don't know anything about Granblue fantasy except:

A) it's some mobile jprg who's characters got super popular somehow, to the point that fan art floods pxiv and the assorted Booru's at close to the same rate as Touhou and Kantai Collection
B) One of the characters is a wizard who turned himself into a loli.

I'm okay with this. Honestly you could slap Platinum's basic combat mechanics on anything and I'd probably enjoy it. Wouldn't even mind a weeb fantasy setting as a change of pace tbh.

Sadly, I doubt MGR2 is ever gonna happen with Konami in the state that it's in. MGR might actually be my favorite Platinum title, despite its flaws, so it's a shame. And it almost happened, too (Kojima was specifically gunning for an MGR2 before he left).

Both this and NieR though definitely seem more skewed towards being "true" rpg's though. I'm of course more a fan of their traditionally arcadey game structures, but I'm kinda interested to see what will come of this open-world dabbling.
 
The only thing I know about Granblue fantasy is that it's mobile and that this picture is cannon.

I have been on my fair share of weird sites, I have seen some shit, and read about some shit, but that is... highly quotable, holy shit.
