I don't think that doesn't mean he shouldn't go, if anything traveling would be ideal to level up his game by getting better experience that's out there. I'd love to see ClarenceMage make it out personally.

I ran into GFarmer in ranked and he had a really cool Robo-Fortune that I stole tech from. Would be nice to see a Korean player make it out there.

lol that wasn't my intent D:

I know this is digging a bigger hole, but it's not strictly true - we had one player make top8 at EVO in both VF4 and VF5, and just this last SS we had a Marvel player beat KBrad to win the tournament. (and I'm not counting Humanbomb because he plays for HK).

Now if he wanted to say that if most of AU's 'good' players were worse than most of the 'good' players from other regions then I'd agree, but that's not as fun a statement to make, is it?

I want players to show up that truly have put in work and are ALREADY good and deserve to play at a high offline level.

Not a youtube guy.
This. Poccola probably doesn't make the same sound effects in real life.

EDIT: Also while I'd like to see CM go, it's been consensus among the AU steam chat that he'd probably get rolled when he first appears in the US simply because AU's other players aren't on that level, but given a bit of time to warm up he'd likely do better. Not that that necessarily has to affect anybody's vote at all, I just thought I'd point it out that most of us wouldn't expect him to stomp everyone.

That's a bit of a defeatist stance to take don't you think? Due to the limited playerbase there's only so good a person can get. Many countries have players of lower skill attending competitive events, be it e-sports or the regular kind. If you let the idea of "everyone else is better" take precedent, then why bother doing anything? Supporting a player in this fashion shouldn't be under the assumption that they're expecting to "stomp everyone" either, that's just naive.

100% agree. The post wasn't "lol there's no hope why bother", more correcting a minor factual error in the first part and stating the obvious in the second.

Actually, is there Baiken footage? I haven't really been able to find any from recently.

Tha's cool, it just seemed a strange statement to make from my perspective since it comes across as an unnecessary warning (especially considering there are no other AU candidates thus far). I did get a bit carried away with being preachy, my apologies.

I'm sorry. I thought the Aussies were GODLIKE in Catherine

Well if you're one of the only people that does a thing, it's easy to be the best :P

No disrespect to the players btw, that tournament was goddamn fantastic and it was a blast to root for Australian players for a change.

Back on topic, how's Cat Drugs doing? Was he ever considered a "top player"? Haven't seen him around in a while

AU CANNOT be as strong as the rest of the world because of the lack of player base, lack of players in general, and extreme differences in how far all the good players are from one another. I only have 1 player that I get GREAT connections with. Basically everyone else is around 100 ms or more connections with. And that's not offline that's online so I personally never get offline experience.

I'm a firm believer that it's super hard/much harder to get good at a game with a small player base and few people to play against. Quick match won't do it for us either. We have a player out here that runs over 90% quick match and I deastroy him easily every time we run sets as does basically every AU player that he plays against. So if I destroy him everytime and he's got a decent record on quick match then there's little reason to play QM for me.

Being basically one of only 2 players in the world to have played against CM offline and online and wingzero/negus/duck/tj/mmds/worldjem/tood/shin offline

I personally find CM to be just under negus strength. At least that's how I think. I feel like age is just under mmds strength. I'm basically tied at shinatproof strength... Not saying anything either way about that. If you think he's good then cool, if not, then cool. But that's where I felt I stood after playing him basically to a tie, 2+ years ago.

As far as CM talking shit about AU though... It is a bit of a misnomer. He talks shit about everyone. If you don't use this tech or that tech then you are bad in his eyes till you prove to him that you don't need that tech to beat him or whatever. I grew tired of it so we don't talk anymore. But I won't sit here and say that he isn't the best sg player in AU... He better be. He plays way more than I do at least and save for some errant sets where I haven't played the game in over a month me and him tend to go slightly less than evenish with him winning the majority. Though as I said there are a few 5-0/10-0 blowouts in his favor when I'm super rusty, whereas I've never beaten him by that margin. But this whole "way better than anyone else in AU" thing is slightly overblown. But he's hungry so I can understand him overstating his position. He also thinks that all the current AU players are holding him back by them not getting better. I've got a wife and children and don't have all the time to put into the game that I'd like to. But it's w/e.

I'm also not hungry in the least. Well not much. All I want to do is play and be chill, the AU scene has stagnated though. To much beat extend L running things (I've dropped BB from my team) I have no problem with going up against BB because it makes basically everyone super predictable out here that uses him... But the problem is that most of the games start to feel the same over and over again... Which is one reason why I haven't been playing much at all as of late. Just feeling bored overall.

I do hope that CM is able to get out to the states to play though. But part of "git gud" is having a job or ways of paying for oneself to travel. Lots of Perth players out here have gone to the last 3 evos and visited Cali on extended trips and none of them are rich afaik. So... CM needs to get a decent job or rely on the kindness of strangers.

And yeah, I can't beat his Val currently. Which is the other thing that makes the game boring for me. But w/e. I fully expect AU as well as many other countries to come into their own once sf5 comes out. That game will have the player base and it will have rollback. So the sky's the limit at that time.

No one has to read my stuff.

On the Subject of CM I just want to say I am more likely to help out someone who's kind on Skullheart which rules out him and a few other players for me. It isn't that I don't want to see him compete against players in the states, but I'd rather help out somebody who I want to be with in person.

The people are the best part of offline events. Period. The tournament is a reason for hanging out but I love everyone I meet at events to death.

Uzu is super helpful when you play him.

Peck is a good player and has a drive to improve. And he is nice in person. And he said he wants to go to more offline events to get more experience playing onstage, which (especially after my EVO performance this year) I definitely get.

Woofly's fortune is OD.

Baiken is dated back to the beginning of SG but none currently.

I speculate that it may be ancient enough to not even be relevant.
@Skarmand
Any unknown good Canada player in your area? Just curious.
Just me and Yaya on an island. Everyone else has quit.
I'd be a lot stronger if I had a scene as dedicated to the game as I am.

so we got......
EU and UK roughly established: Zeknife,Woofly, izzmo(?)
Japan: not sure yet will get news tomorrow
Korea: Magicman(if he gets out of military service), Gfarmer, Riok?, geutdi possible suggestions. can someone talk with gfarmer about that region?
canada: only skarmand and yaya and worldjam but they'll come on their own i assume.

AUS: only CM

Brazil: Noaa and caio and acido (don't know anything of acido @CaioLugon can you provide some vids?)

This is the players i can think of atm if anyone knows anymore then?!?

I would rather heighten the competitive standards of everyone who seriously considers themselves a competitive skullgirls player. This does not involve contributing to a hugbox where no-ones feelings are hurt. If people think they are good and I think they are not, I will let them know. If I think their theories are full of shit, I will let them know. It would waste everyone's time if I were to start to pad all of my posts out with "yeah im just saying this cos its my opinion i mean you can do what you want and i respect the way you play i just think what i do is viable" fuck that shit.

@Dime_x Don't talk yourself up. You went even-ish with me whenever I played a new sandbag team(Let's note that I only really started playing more sandbag teams is because it's extremely awful listening to you complain about Val every single time I'm beating you with her). I destroy you whenever I play my main team. The straw that broke the camel's back is that I don't agree with you that you think Bella beats Painwheel, which is not true. The proof you submitted was that you think whiff punishing is not a real threat and pw can't contest bella's priority. If you think that whiff punishing is not a real threat, then I have no idea how you can even do footsies.

You continued to not incorporate universally good tech into your game, and good character-specific tech into your game almost as a matter of pride, and always talked down things you didn't personally approve of despite their practical effectiveness. You have helped me tremendously improve as a player, and you do have a lot of GREAT insight into fighting games. However, the only reason you can't benefit from your own wisdom is because you have five thousand excuses and hoops to jump through before you consider something 'legitimate' instead of 'scrub easy win dumb execution test brainless no-skill shit'.

I am far ahead of you fundamentally and game-specifically not because of the 1k+ hours I dumped into the game(You've had several years ahead of me before I even picked up the game, and DECADES on me before I even started playing fighting games seriously), but because I don't make weakshit excuses for my losses, and I don't have dumb criterea for shit to fulfill before I can approve it, to then try to learn it. I am far ahead of you, and the gap between is will continue to grow larger until you address your horrible fucking attitude problem.

Edit: Let's not forget you always go remotely even with, and nowadays starting to lose sets to to other people underneath me, who I demolish 30-0. I beat you like 30-8 plus sandbag bonus, I demolish everyone else 30-0, you go even with them. Sounds like Far Above Everyone Else to me.

I don't remember this 30-8 thing you are talking about. The only character you've ever used that scared me was your Val. And that's only because I can't contest your runaway abilities with her. Every other character where I can force a decision out of you I feel very confident against. As far as being better in the span of time that I've played I never took fighting games any kind of serious before sf4. They were only a hobby at that time, and remain that even to now, though I actually do try now as opposed to back in the day where I just wanted to see my character do cool moves and combos. And people have videos and have fresh minds new to accept new theory etc etc. the new always usurp the old in every form of competition there is, fighting a games are no different.

Yes you are better than me. However, much of that is Val and your time spent on the game as well as my knowledge TEACHING you about how to think of the game and maitakes that you were making. You took it all well and surpassed the teacher rather quickly. I'm happy for you. Try not to make this more than it is though. You do not dominate me.

You can be real about other people's skill level and what their problems are without acting the way you do. Literally every high level Skullgirls player in the US does this. I play Sage / Warped / Skarmand / Sonic on occasion. They're real about what I need to work on, but none of them discuss this stuff the way you address every other person I see you interact with. You don't have to choose between real and kind, you can do both. CaioLugon is equally real about gameplay, the difference is that I would be really excited to talk to him about it in person (also because he's a great fortune player). I love hanging out with SG players at events and just talking about the game with them for hours over dinner. It's actually my favorite part of events.

If you're so confident that you can heighten the competitive standards of the entire SGC then I hope you can save up, make it to CB next year, and prove that. Don't get me wrong; I really would like to see you compete. You have a good attitude towards the game and a ton of drive, but I would rather send someone who has this and is a pretty friendly guy.

While I'm happy to be considered for this, I've never liked to accepting charity from others. Besides I like to think that i will have obtained a new job by then and be able to pay for it myself. :/ Thanks, but I'm going to have to decline.

I also think he's a massive creep and I don't want him anywhere near this game or this community.
Not that I disagree he is a massive creep (nor would I advocate sending someone to a tournament for making funny youtube videos);
But have you like, spent 30 seconds looking at this years EVO and CB winner, or the other EVO finalist

But he also did the same zoom-in for Big Band and Beowulf's crotches...
Does being a bisexual creep make being a creep better in some way?.?

Can we keep the Australian Civil War out of this thread, please?

Thanks

I never thought I would read that sentence in a skullgirls thread. So morbid.

Anyway I voted for Baiken, he's awesome. Though...

I still think this is way way way early to be doing this, but what if we asked the JP community who they wanted to send, and we offered to try to raise funds to send whoever they elected?

Going by what SIG said, it's difficult for people over there to get time off work, so it might be better to let them coordinate who they want to send, rather than us picking someone we'd like to have come without any knowledge about whether or not they could even come at all.

I can vouch for this. The only reason Baiken hasn't come to evo and the states is because his work schedule won't allow him. Honestly if it wasn't for that, he would have been here long ago.

In regards to a JP player being sent here, there is actually another player the JP community wanted to send here for evo (though it was a bit too late) because he was pretty high ranking. I forgot his name but I will bring it up when I remember.

I just want to mention that
1) IRL != Internet (I hear even Mike is bearable offline!)
2) Impersonal Forum posts != Direct communication (CM is a lot nicer when you talk with him on Steam than read random posts on SH)
3) If you want to send nice people.. I am not sure how good your choices are for that//
++ of course if you send someone from JP/Kor, you simply have no idea about their personality at all (and you may even be entirely unable to talk to them! Is this a knockout criterion?)

In general, *I* thought the main idea behind this was to invite the best international players -
To reward their effort, see what they are doing (eg Japan plays differently compared to the US) and teach each other (eg Woofly would get better through the tourney and casuals and talking, and then can bring that higher level of skill back to EU, which would increase the competitiveness of the area and grow the community here + the US gets a new picture of what one can do (zoning with Parasoul, woo!)), not to build a love tent ..
Like, if there are 2 slots to fund I can understand that you'd pick 2 guys who "deserve it" AND "are nice", but currently we have an 'unlimited' amount of slots and just want a general view, and I don't see how CM wouldn't qualify for this 'preliminary sorting'.

.. Aside from the fact that he "needs it more" than eg someone from Mexico would (no idea where exactly Uzu is from, but I'd be exceptionally surprised if the plane ticket wasn't substantially cheaper than from Australia) and that the AUS community "needs it more" than likely any other place (EU can play with the US online just fine, Mexico anyway, JP/Kor can play with each other and are known for their FG prowess, Brazil got funded this year and has Caio coming in the next, Australia is entirely locked out from the world) - arguments which would put ClarenceMage as clear #1 priority in my book

On the note of "inviting the best international players", someone with magic contacts should hit up Japan/Korea and actually get some info as to how the scene there looks etc.
- Magicman, Mulnim, and GFarmer (as well as the infamous GiantKingTurtle) are known because they play a bunch of quickmatch and sometimes upload stuff on YT, but nothing really tells us they are actually the best Korean players.
- Similarly, Inuchiyo likely doesn't play anymore, I haven't heard of Baiken in forever, Poccola is guaranteed no good and I have no idea where SIG clocks in. May as well put Ken_Tekka on the list, he was a really good Filia in SDE~
# For the communities that don't really have a voice (and thus aren't incessantly shouting "Woofly is the best player in EU, trust us!"), this is far more likely a list of people that are known in the public eye than one of people that are actually at the top of the skill curve (Poccola being the most obvious case in point).

Sigged, good sir.
So you can post, see your sig after sending and go "Oh FUCK, forgot about it again!" and hit the edit button?

I could say a lot of things, but I'll say this: Please don't make this thread about who you think isn't worthy of going to Combo Breaker. It doesn't help community morale when a good chunk of the posts in this thread are basically "This guy isn't good at the game, vote for this guy instead" or "I think this guy is creepy, don't vote for him"

Make a good argument for your #1, instead of pooping on other members of the already-small Skullgirls community.

Baiken(he's the best player but now he can't play SG) 159man Kei(now his name is HIDE) SIG

Hide/ kei is a beowulf, peacock, band team but is proficient with other character

159man is a squig band player.

Those are the top JP SG players currently listed
