Shantae Series

I mean it has... some good comics.

I mean it has... some good comics.

It has some. But it does value quantity over quality.

The evolution comics were cool.

Edit: These are old news that I have missed. Better late than never.

Except that I have missed the voting. C should have won...

I voted for A for the design and color scheme. If C had A's colors, I would have voted for it. I didn't go with B or D because, while still adorable, they were more plain-looking.

...Why would anyone vote for anything besides A or C? There is nothing standing out for B and D. The description literally says that she's supposed to tuck into something on land, what's she gonna tuck into if her design's going to be B?

I voted for D because it's pink.

The PANK though!

Oh man, I thought you guys were in the Twilight Zone for a second. (Remember the Twilight Zone?)

Yup, B won the vote. I voted for A because I liked the idea with the shell, but B was definitely cute. People on the forum came up with some interesting compromises though, like this one:

But it sounds like the crab transformation has a fairly minor role, so that's why they didn't bother pulling ideas for a re-vote, like they did for the Archer.

It's great to see Wayforward getting Shantae on the Steam train MUCH faster this time! I actually still haven't played my copy of Risky's yet, so I might try to play them both back-to-back depending on when I pick this up.

The PC port of Pirate's Curse is pretty sweet, for anyone who was split. Worth every dollar.

Been playing it for the past week. It is great playing with the new abilities and exploring the maps.

I didn't realize the pirates curse port was out, i'll have to give it a look.

Having a great time with Pirate's Curse.

I just wish that my Pc controller was compatible with it. It works with Shovel Knight.

Unfortunately, Skullgirls and Shovel Knight are really more the exceptions to the standard when it comes to controller support. A lot of PC games/ports just assume you're using a 360 pad, or maybe a Logitech, and then just call it a day.

At this point, I just turn on Joy2Key for every new game I jump into. Sometimes even if a game actually works with my pad, it'll have sucky control mapping options, so I'll stick with J2k anyway. As long as the game doesn't have a whack keyboard scheme for its default, it usually works out fine.

Say, does anyone know how to describe Shantae's genie powers from a visual standpoint? I'm having a bit of trouble looking it up. Like, when you think of genies you generally think of the bright colors that come from poofs of smoke and hues lingering in the air. Does Shantae have something like this? Or, better yet, do you think it could be applied to her?

And yes, I'm asking because I'm thinking it would be a neat distinction for Shantae in Smash.

Sand Worm, Backer Builds, & More!

Greetings and salutations to all of our backers! We’re here with another update after several weeks of heads-down time as we prepare for E3 and beyond. We’ve got some big challenges ahead, and you’ve got a front row seat to witness the vigorous process of bringing all of the separate pieces together. At this point in development, we’ve made a TON of content. It’s time to connect the dots and start filling in the gaps!

Meet the Worm Boss!

First, let’s look at something new: the Sand Worm Boss! This guy dominates the “Fire and Forget” chapter of the game, which you may recall as being one of our stretch goals. This persistent enemy will be making multiple appearances throughout the level. We don’t want to flat out spoil it, so we’ll just let you enjoy the concepts for now. This is our first attempt in Half-Genie Hero to make a rotating action scene, where the camera orbits the battle rather than being a direct side-view stage. With this boss appearing roughly halfway through the adventure, it will be a great way to break up the visuals.

More concepts!

Have you ever wondered what Scuttle Town looks like at night? If you played the original Game Boy Color game you’ve probably seen it first-hand. But in the Shantae games that followed, the town has always been depicted with a happy high-noon color scheme. Unless the Pirate Master is visiting. OK, forget what I said. Just enjoy these amazing new Scuttle Town concepts.

Screen Grabs!

Now that we’re further along, you might begin to see fewer concepts and more screen grabs. That’s because we’ll soon be moving out of the phase where we’re designing outside the game, and we'll be making much more of our visual progress inside.

Check out some of these screen shots, including some with Shantae transformed into the Monkey and the Crab!

Community Biz!

We’d like to thank everyone for the support they've shown regarding Shantae’s inclusion in Smash Bros! Your fan art, move sets, and overall enthusiasm has been overwhelming! Will she make it? Who knows? We certainly don’t. But we do know this!! Never, EVER underestimate Shantae fans! After all, you worked together to fund this entire game, right? You bet.

Speaking of funding stuff... Check out these awesome new Kickstarter Campaigns that have gone live recently.

Both of them funded already, but rest assured, extra dollars go a long way, especially down the line when they’re in as deep in production as we are today!

Early access codes for backers are out. Check your emails.

Okay, when the music started, did anyone else make her crouch dance? The soundtrack is already so catchy, I just couldn't help it.

(omg, the crab's crouch dance is too good.)

Just finished the demo, this is a very beautiful game. It's nice seeing the old enemies updated with cool effects.

Oop, it doesn't work for Mac. Darn it. Guess I'll have to borrow someone else's steam, heh heh.

The Dance Through the Danger remix they put as the main menu music is amazing. It reminds me of a song in a Disney movie.

It gives me Smash Bros. vibes.
