Shantae Series

I heard the original Shantae is on the 3DS shop, so I may check out this game I keep hearing about. Also, Shantae is one seriously pale-skinned Arab. (Arabian?)
We already had and ended that discussion a while ago buddy, you should probably brush up on that in the earlier pages of this thread. You missed out on a few developments.

What really sold me on this is that I had played the original game once or twice on my bro's 3ds. After seeing just how much of a cutie Shantae actually is, I was done for. Oh yeah... and gameplay too.... I guess....

Will definitely throw money at it when I can.

Story Update: Intro Sequence

Today we're showing how the various levels from our main video fit together to form the game's introduction stage. The game begins in the dead of night, where Shantae is mysteriously awakened and plunges into the forest. She's drawn by something... but we don't know what! This is when the player will learn the basics of the controls, simply by moving around. Shantae is in her "jammies" and the moves are not fully unlocked yet, allowing players to ease into it.

Through the forest and into Scuttle Town we go. The town is oddly still. The NPC characters that are usually wandering about are not present, and every door but one is locked. Players find their way to the workshop, where Shantae's uncle (her only known family) is snoozing in a chair. Hmm, he's left a rug pulled back, and a mysterious latch draws your eye. Lets WHIP it! Yes, there's a door here. What's he been hiding?

There's a vertical basement level where the old inventor has been storing his many failed experiments. Nothing odd about that. But there are torches, as though someone's been here recently. Shantae presses on to find an undersea cavern as large as Scuttle Town itself! Is she dreaming? The chamber beyond is even more intriguing, featuring a huge fountain with a stone Genie Statue. It speaks! The statue warns Shantae of grave danger that will soon befall Sequin Land. It is impossible to describe... she must see the evil firsthand!

Shantae is enveloped in blinding light, and is whisked away to what could only be the Genie Realm. Shantae has never met her mother or father... could this place hold the answers she's been searching for all her life? But what's that on the floor? A magical seal keeps something huge trapped beneath the ground. And whatever it is, it's breaking free.... RIGHT NOW!

I'm getting so hyped with every detail put into this.

Have they addressed why they need to Kickstarter this game? Wayforward isn't an unknown developer, they have successful games, and a Shantae game in the pipeline already.

They said that most of their games are contracted by other companies, while Shantae is an in-house title that they pay for by themselves using their own money, which is why Shantae games come out quite irregularly. By crowdfunding the project, they could start working on Shantae 4 straight away after the 3rd game is out.

And after their last console publisher (the Shit-Tier that is Majesco) I'm sure crowd-funding seems like a blessing in its own right.

i downloaded riskys revenge about a month ago and have to say i was kind of disappointed with it all in. sure theres a lot to like about it, music, animation, overall aesthetics are really good, but damn is that game short.

when i bought the map right at the start i thought to myself "cool, a map for the area that im in", and then as i got further into the game it started to dawn on me that it was actually the map for the whole game. i think i got it finished in under 5 hours on my first playthrough (and i did a lot of backtracking for extra jams too), and i pretty much have no desire to play through it again even to 100% it. i dont feel like there is any point to any of the spells other than the spinny orb one, since the others use heaps more mana and do way less DPS , and are not worth the extra effort as just running right into stuff and whipping the crap out of them.

after reading all the glowing reviews of the game i kinda was expecting more from it. i regret not just downloading the GBC game.

A map feature would have been nice for the GBC game as i'm currently going through it and it would be handy to know the layout of some areas.
But it looks like I ran into a game breaking glitch at the moment and had to reload from an old restore point a few hours back.
Learned my lesson though but now i'm just not in the mood to play it at all. =/
I'll give it a go again eventually I suppose.

Good news! WayForward has confirmed that Shantae: Half Genie Hero will be on PSVita and PSVita TV! Now i'm really excited! Been making a story for Shantae in Skullgirl. Gotta keep workin on a story concept.

I beat Risky's Revenge and am currently on getting the Twinkle Stone, but I am stuck on finding a way to proceed in order to open it.

Hey folks, a lot of you have been asking for Half-Genie Hero on VITA. As it happens, the landscape of gaming has shifted somewhat today with Sony’s VITA TV announcement. In response, we’ve decided to port wfEngine to Vita as part of our “work-for-hire” business.

What does this mean for Half-Genie Hero? Well, it means that we can include both VITA and VITA TV as part of our $400K funding goal. It’s not a Stretch Goal, just part of the package.

Please help us spread the word, now that our message has changed. Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will now include “VITA & VITA TV” as an option for your platform of choice!

As previously said by another user, the game was announced for PS Vita & Vita TV today as part of their funding goal. A nice little addition.

FUCK IT, I'M BUYING A VITA.

I have to scrounge for the money, maybe sell some old stuff for it, but this game makes me want to buy a PSVITA.

Also Gravity Rush.

if you have PS+ you can get gravity rush (plus 3 other great games on the Vita) FOR FREE

Another news for Shantae Kickstarter Update #8! Lead Animator from Lab Zero Games, Mariel Cartwright! Yep shes doing it for the new Shantae game! Also loved the question of Shantae in Skullgirls about her rival would be Filia. LOL. My dream is coming true! Since i asked Matt Bozon a question about Shantae being in Skullgirls, now i want to play as Shantae in Skullgirls! :D #ShantaeforSkullgirls

SHANTAE WITHOUT HER HAIR TIED UP IS.
HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG
Shantae with jammies are just cute as ever. #ShantaeforSkullgirls

I still think Shantae should have a sword or some kind of different attack. It looks weird spamming her hair whip so much since it takes several hits to kill stuff, the animation is kinda odd. The hair whip should've been a special move or something. A minor nitpick though, the game was great I only played Risky's Revenge, i plan on getting the new one right away too

Considering the game is supposed to be a homage to Metroidvania I like to imagine the hair whip essentially being the equivalent of the Vampire Killer in the earlier Castlevania games. They probably made that her most common attack on purpose.

Yeah, same.

Shantae with a sword would be badass.

Like a big arabian scimitar would be really cool.

Now imagine that same gif, only browner.

Also, have they ever covered exactly how she's a half genie? Like have they shown her parents?

They explicitly said in the story board for the intro that she never met her parents
I didn't ask if she's met her parents.

lol, I had a feeling that was Mariel's animation before I even saw the article. She just couldn't hold back on those signature boob jiggles!

Hmmm, now I'm really looking forward to that bikini alt.

She's so adorable in her PJ's. I wanna be able to play through the entire game with her like that.
