They're different games, so if he's asking for something like scott pilgrim or double dragon he should probably look elsewhere. I don't understand where the subjective part factors in.
 
I think one of the worst parts of all of this is the rewards:
  • $500 will give you a follow from Shaq on Instagram
  • $1000 and he will follow you on Twitter...

Perhaps your post was misworded, but you said "It's good, but it's not exactly double dragon neon or scott pilgrim." which implies that Devil May Cry is inferior to DDN or Scott.
 
Seriously though, he could fund this ten times over out of his pocket, giving him money is pretty ehhhhhh.

Not what I meant, I meant they're different enough that someone who wants the latter will probably be disappointed. Sorry for the confusion.

Rule of thumb for business ventures: don't pay for it out of your own pocket if you can help it.

Yeah, I'm extremely optimistic about the game but those are stupid as shit

Mind you, with how some people are on social media, I could see it being donated towards.

It's at $25,330 now. Note that unlike Kickstarter, Indiegogo gets donated regardless of if they hit the goal or not. Though we all know, being Waifu War Veterans, right?
 
The whole Shaq can fund it thing.

He can and is. So are the developers.

The missing amount being filled by the IGG is more or less an interest check as in "let's make sure it's a good idea to make and sell this". They could complete it and find out the hard way no one wants it.

Flexible funding on Indiegogo is optional. Keep Skullgirls Growing was a campaign with fixed funding, meaning that it would return all donations if the goal was not met.
 
It's to gauge interest. See if it's got enough of an audience to make at all.
 
Okay, I'm kinda curious to see how this turns out. To be honest, I think Shaq Fu has aged pretty well compared to other old stuff like Time Killers and Pit Fighter. Part of me hopes that they consider bringing back some of the old characters too.

Aside from the charity supporting aspects of it though, this crowdfunding campaign looks kinda whack. $1,000 for Shaq to follow you on Twitter? lol

Probably the craziest reward is the $6,500 to work as a Concept Artist. Why would anyone pick that? If you're that desperate for a part-time job, it would be cheaper to just fly over there right now and work as an unpaid intern for a few months. By the time you're done, you'll probably have earned more money than the actual studio.

And if you're really that bored, you might as well go ahead and start your own Shaq Fu 2 project in MUGEN. Just remember to e-mail it over to Shaq when you're done. I bet he'll think it's the latest build from the office!
 
The success of this crowd funding will depend on the legion of Shaq fans, not so much fans of the actual game. So far there has been a quite a few generous donators who would want autographed basketball merchandise/visit him who see that the $$$ is worth it since it's difficult to gauge sentimental value, but the amount of donators from the lower tier rewards are quite low which means a slow overall start at 56k.

With roughly 40 days left and 1/8th to the goal done I'm not sure they will hit the goal unless more heavy advertisement happen like if Shaq gave a shameless shoutout on TV or aggressively campaigns on social media sites.
 
I honestly think Shaq is just bored and is looking for new ways to entertain himself. I've never heard anyone say "gee I wish there was a Shaq Fu 2".

I've watched some of my friends perform high level Shaq Fu gameplay on stream.

There were cross ups.
