Show Your Fightstick

Honestly, I wouldn't worry *too* much about getting the best-ever stick at this stage. For one, if it's your first then you won't really be able to tell the difference, and secondly there's also the possibility that you'll decide that a stick isn't ideal for you. I'd focus on just getting any solid stick from a decent brand (one of the ones that has already been mentioned) that will work with whatever systems you have. If you decide that you really like using a stick, then you can eventually swap out the buttons/stick for whatever part you choose, and the bonus is that ordering those parts should come with lower shipping than a whole new stick (I live in Australia so I know that pain - I wanted to buy some button silencers for $2, but didn't because shipping for them was $28).

I'm getting interested in buying a fstick and I was wondering what could be a good model in terms of quality.
I've heard about something like a Madcatz Tournament Edition or something being okay but I'm super ignorant about this matter.

I found one on ebay for PS3 (model mentioned above) and I also read that PS3 sticks can work on PC, is that true?

EDIT: Also anything about other manufacturers?
I own an Eightarc and i really love it. Works with ps3 and 360, uses good parts, and has a really nice looking case

Update: Edited video of the fightstick building stream I did is now uploaded:

Edit: it got blocked by most of the planet because of the background music. Back to the drawing board, gotta completely redub it...

Can I see some more wooden sticks like on the first page? The art and plexiglass just seems so noisy and that kind of thing always struck me as the epitome of class. Preferably a beautiful dark wood like cherry or mahogany, or maybe even porous, reclaimed wood with one of those shiny restaurant table finishes to keep it sealed.

Here is a Tiger Maple custom I recently completed. The stick features:
Black stain
PS360+ pcb
Fanta stick
Seimitsu buttons

Also here is a blank case for a customer who wanted a flip top for easy access to the buttons/stick

"My First Mod" right here. Replaced the parts inside of a Mayflash with Sanwa stick and buttons. The joystick wiring was the hardest. Took about 10 hrs total.

I also have a white Qanba Q1 (x360) floating around somewhere.

So making a stick out of a Friskies box is the next project?

IDK the smug look on that cat is telling me he wants to be on a custom...
Seriously though I have seen a KFC custom, a Morton Salt custom, but never a Friskies (my gut says do it)

Here is a custom iL Competition build I finished up.
The stick features:

Really hope no one minds me asking but,
What's the height and length of the cases of the your FightSticks.
I was thinking of making one out of wood and I wanted to make sure
there's enough space in there so that everything would fit and
won't interfere with each others processes or anything.

It'll all depends on what type of buttons you're putting in.

So look here.

In fact a lot slagcoin is really great for any questions you might have.

mine is roughly 13" x 9" x 2.5" (l x w x h) I didn't feel like doing precise measurements but that's my stick. (not my cardboard one, that one is huge)

Also I hope you have all the tools needed to make a wooden case I picked cardbaord 'cause it's easy and free.
But yeah, slagcoin is pretty great for people trying to make their own stick.

Not really a fightstick, but still.
Bathe in it's glory:
Looks like a rubber-dome keyboard - If you can afford it you'll get a much more responsive keypress for playing FGs if you play on something mechanical or steel-spring based.

Haven't had any problems with button responses with this thing though, so I don't see any reason to change it.

I think you are the first KB player I've seen to not complain about it.

Well so long as there's not ghosting going on, it's really just a matter of preference. I disliked having to really hammer my keys to make sure they'd register with the right timing - something I don't need to do with my MX Brown keyboard or my MX Red hitbox.

~Facepalm~ Must be one of those people trying to fit in or thinks he/she is 2edgy4everyone

Anyway, my biggest project ever:
DSCN0005.JPG
Making this crusty old boombox into my boombastick (let's see if anyone gets the reference).
The entire back panel has nothing preventing me from drilling holes. I just need to open it up and see how much space is there on the inside. But this will be a fight stick and a working radio.

C'mon, no need for that.

You might need to sacrifice either the radio or the tape deck in that if you want to have enough space. Or, if you want to get really fancy you could gut the whole thing and connect a MP3 player to the main speaker, which would give you tons of space. If you want to keep all of the internal workings intact then my bet is that you'll only have enough room to do a padhack and you might need to compromise a bit on the position of the actual stick.

Unfortunately gutting everything will have to do. The motherboard and the rest take up too much space. In fact the only thing that's stopping is putting the lever/stick. Otherwise the buttons fit just fine because there's plenty of room between the board and panel. It's a shame too because I wanted to keep it as authentic as possible. But function > looks in my book.

Oh, sorry about that.
forgot to say "thanks for for giving me the link."

Thanks for the link and info and I think I have the right tools for the job though, I can't be a 100% until I actually start. I'm still coming up with the funds towards this project. :P

I've been considering picking up a fightstick whilst I'm still in Japan. However, I'm not sure what I should be looking for in a fightstick.

Sticks are very cheap out here in comparison to the UK and I've often heard people say its best to buy the more expensive sticks for better quality and less input lag etc.

I've mostly been playing fighting games with keyboard and occassionally a DS4, playing games on PC, PS3 and PS4.

Any reccomendations which sticks to buy or what to look out for? This will be my first fightstick

I'd imagine that Madcatz and HORI would be the most available brands in Japan, so I'd suggest spending a little time getting familiar with their different products.

@Notkastar
Stuff is pretty spot on with the case height being 2.5 for Sanwa|Seimitsu sticks.
You can go lower if using the JLF, but I would only going down to 2.25 to avoid the stick tapping your bottom plexi while lapping.

Here's a Storm custom that features:
XL Case
Paewang PCB
Arceye3LED
Optical JLF -Toodles
Sanwa 30|24mm buttons

Actually, that's an interesting point. How thin do you think it would be able to make the case for a hitbox (or similar), considering thatr you only need to worry about the buttons and PCB? Just measured mine and it's ~2", and there's a *lot* of free space in there.

Just got this Blazblue stick so I can play on the PS4 without having to maintain a synced controller. When I first have this stick it had some faulty diagonal inputs which has been remedied by wrapping electrical tape around the actuator to make it thicker, giving it better reach towards the microswitches.

So I took a curiosity into this hitbox thing and I was wondering what would people tell me about it (feeling, quality of playing). I thought I could use that not just for fighting games and there is one I had in mind. I'm a keyboard guy bu the one I have right now it's not really keeping up.

Maybe it's not really a fightstick but I thought asking here would have been appropriate.

EDIT: also is it hard to replace the cover/art of a fightstick? I'm asking because that hitbox looks very prone to that kind of customization.

For me, punch and kick buttons are far more comfortable. 3cm seems like a long way to spread your fingers but it's actually pretty reasonable. Assuming you're moving from WASD to hitbox, you'll probably find the hitbox layout take a bit to get used to, but a lot of people seem to swear by it. There's also a tweet out there by UltraDavid where he days if he was going to compete again he'd 100% be using a hitbox.

I can't really comment on the art because mine is home-made.

I'll tell you about my opinion on the hitbox. Overall, it's a very comfortable and effective device to use. Playing with it feels almost no different from typing on a keyboard. If you're the kind of person that raps their fingers and drums on every surface, it is totally for you. The buttons are smaller than those found on the TE, which threw me off a bit at first. Since then, my fingers are totally aware of where all the buttons are. The direction buttons and face buttons are placed too closely, I feel. The up button is practically underneath the LK button. I'm told this is so that you can use your right thumb if the mood strikes you, or to make tiger knee's easier. I find it annoying to have to hold my right thumb up. This was not fun to get used to. I tiger knee stuff occasionally, and I don't kneed my right thumb to do it. The only change I would make would be to move the direction buttons farther away from the button buttons.

Picked up a fightstick for a reasonable price whilst out in Japan

Ah, a HRAP. how do you find the size? I was surprised by how big the case was the first time I used one, though it wasn't uncomfortable to use by any means.

Considering its my first fightstick, I haven't noticed anything that made the stick uncomfortable or too large. The fightstick is roughly the same size as the keyboard I used to its surprisingly comfortable - as far as I've used. I still need to learn to play stick better, to an equal level I can play on keyboard

I kinda changed my opinion on the Qanba Q1. I had it for about a year and a half and I already had top swap all the buttons and joystick. To give an example the stick that I made myself from shit parts and out of a drawer lasted for 3 years before it died.
So if you are in doubt, just buy a more expensive stick (e.g. a full sanwa one). It'll be cheaper in the long run.

So question would you guys recommend I get a Ps4 fightstick? Because not every fighting game is going to have the PS3 drives. Is it worth it?
