Report Skullgirls 2nd Encore (Vita/PS4) to be published by Arc System Works in Japan!

Has anyone actually done that though? Bilingual dub for an Anime/Game?
To go a little off-topic since I have nothing much to say in this thread other than "kewl..."

Mari Iijima voiced Lynn Minmay from Macross in both Japanese and English. However, that case only happened for the original TV series and she found the English role by complete coincidence.

i really hope some Jap youtuber or someone that can get japanese stuff, when this comes out, release a video with all the story modes with the jap voices and english subs, so i can just appreciate the good or bad VA.

Is there something wrong? Really, i'm being honest here.

It's seen as a derogatory term towards Japanese people. It's fine that you didn't know, just keep that in mind for future reference.

Oh, i see, i am very sorry really, i didn't have a clue that this was offensive.

So, i hope that someone from Japan put content on youtube with the japanese VA so i can hear the voice acting from there.

That's fine, you didn't know. Thanks for taking note, though.

While I wouldn't like to play with Japanese VAs, I would definitely like to hear them. I don't know the names of any Japanese voice actors or their previous work, though (I don't watch/play much Japanese-only content), so I won't know what to expect from the actors until I hear their performances.
It probably won't be too hard to find the JPN dub online when it comes out.

スカルガールズ 2ndアンコール
sukaruga-ruzu 2nd (sekando) anko-ru

Based good guy Render.

Im just kidding with the "bad translation" but thanks for the clarification!

I wonder, i understood we won't ge the japanese voice here because i would cost too much, but is the reverse true? Will the japanese version have both set of voices or would that also have an extra cost associated to it?

I guess they'll have the English voices, because they are already done, is not extra effort putting something that is already there.

Nah, it is more like a series of kiosks set-up for trial play. Like a booth at E3, people line-up to play. The linked Famitsu article notes that the installation will have North American voices.

It is interesting, of all the games to test, only Skullgirls and SUPERBEAT XONiC allow two players to fight each other. All the others are one player. So one could hold a some sort of informal tournament, with winner staying on.

Thanks for the slap in the face to everyone who pre ordered the ps4 version thinking we would be getting a vita version. Just like mercenary kings and every other bull shit lie about "cross buy"

Done being lied to. Lab zero thanks for fueling my disgust for the "cross buy" idea. Never getting sucked into it again.

BTW I do like skullgirls. I bought it on steam.
But to anounce this is before a na vita release is a slap in the face to fans hoping for a vita release.

Pls calm down
You are getting the vita release; it's just needs some more work on it (?)

Yo dude. Lab Zero here. Japan isn't getting Vita before the people who already purchased it through cross-buy with the PS4 are getting it. We wouldn't do that to you. The JP release announcement is JUST an announcement that it'll come out AT SOME POINT in Japan. There is LITERALLY no way for Japan to get it sooner because THEY are waiting for US to finish working on it so we can release it to YOU first. Japan won't be getting it any sooner than that.

The NA Vita release is pretty soon, and will be a definitely be a little while before the JP Vita release.

Now that you have more clarity on the situation, are you still mad? Do you still think we've lied to you? I'm happy to answer ANY questions you have frankly and honestly if you are still annoyed for some reason.

No. I'm not. Thank you for the reply. I'm excited for the vita version. Been excited for the vita version since I pre ordered the game and I do love the ps4 and steam version. What I am really excited is to be able to show off this game on a handheld to friends/family. Skullgirls is a great game.

Remember when people actually researched what they were about to complain about before doing so

me neither
:y
I have and I wasn't alone in how I feel. Hence why I came here. My post was rage fueled I admit and I couldn't find a definite answer cause we are past the 6 weeks since ps4 launch. I feel reassured now and am still excited for this.

Thanks for your support of the game despite your (legitimately justified!) frustration with delays and things. We're working hard to make sure the port is worthwhile!

Your frustration is perfectly understandable. If you come across anyone else who feels the same way you did, you're welcome to direct them to me and I'd be happy to explain the situation to them and reassure them that they'll still be getting the Vita version.

As someone who has firsthand experience of the amazing amount of toil that it's taking to get SG running decently on the (really pretty dang underpowered) Vita, you're lucky that render got here first. :^P (I had an amazing response written up, too, that it's probably good I'm not posting...) The Vita is NOT designed for the way we do graphics at all, and the networking setup is completely different.

Once it's out, though, I do FULLY EXPECT you to come back with a post that is just as appreciative as that post was entitled. :^)

Is the vita that bad?, heck, if that was underpowered, i can't imagine working on this with a 3DS.

The Vita has better horsepower then the 3DS.

It's by no means console gaming tier though in terms of graphics/stability since it trades those out for being portable, but it feel like it falls into PS2.5 tier [example P4G ran/looked better on Vita then original PS2] at average regularly.

As a regular Vita gamer, most later Vita games very rarely ever take advantage of the limits for a variety of reasons. It would either cost too much for the expected return revenue [most of the niche Vita JPN games that still look like PSP quality or lower tier games], it was a port off other platforms [PS3/PS4/PC/etc] so it wasn't built from the ground up as an intended Vita game so it affects the overall performance, or just simply the handlers wasn't familiar enough with working on the Vita.

I mean I'm not gonna expect another Killzone Mercenaries quality anytime soon back when Sony actually showed some interest in the device. My god best FPS for a portable and the online is still somewhat active. As for fighting games though I actually had positive impressions seeing them on the Vita. The nice D-pad helps. DoA 5+ ran pretty well on the device at 60 FPS and it look like it took a minor hit in terms of graphics. Pretty much the only 3D Vita fighter on the device. UMvC3 on Vita was another satisfactory port even though I'm not particular fond of the game itself. I'm expecting the Vita version to take some hits [it's a port so can't be helped], but in the end it should be satisfactory enough for portable gaming experience. Will DL whenever it drops and give some feedback.

Irony, the console that is supposed to be powerful PS2.5 tier if used correctly and is more powerful than the 3DS when it comes to ram and memory capacities has few games that use some of the really good resources the Vita has while most of the games published and developed are PSP tier, and in the other hand, the console that has fewer capabilities is the most exploited (FE:A is a good example, KH DDD is another good example, and they didn't used all of the capabilities, Bravely Default, should i go on?)

They actually advertised it along the lines of 'PS3 on-the-go' quality and other nonsense. Needless to say that got Sony in hot-water for 'deceptive practices' lol

Yeah I agree some 3DS games that were built as a 3DS game from the ground-up that actually pushed the limits look better then a lot of Vita games where the devs barely scratch the surface. Recent example is the comparison of Resident Evil Revelations originally for 3DS and the recent released Resident Evil Revelations 2 Vita port. The Vita port actually looks worse then the 3DS game due to combined factors of being a downgraded port and the outside group handling it [Capcom didn't handle the Vita port] having no credibility.

That said I doubt 3DS can handle Skullgirls if the Vita is already being pushed to the limits. Even if it could I still would have to deal with the control layout which I didn't find appealing for fighting games. The only fighting games I can think of that's on 3DS is one of the SFIV's, a Blazblue, and a Tekken.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that we're doing HD 2D in an architecture that was built for 3D, which means we do things it hates like updating textures each frame, having shaders that do math depending on other textures that can't be optimized or order-changed, and not using ANY of the built-in hardware stuff (like the single instruction that gives you a full lighting calculation) because we don't need it. Also none of us are graphics guys. :^P
Just doing the extra step of palettizing the characters is slow on the Vita because it's 2 dependent texture lookups - even at half the size of the PS3's sprites, it's much slower than the PS3 for performing the exact same work.
The PS3 was powerful enough for this to not matter, since we display many fewer polys than most 3D games do. The Vita is...not, really.

From the latest Dengeki magazine issue

Anyone who can read this confirm any interesting details? I would imagine that the JPN VA of Cerebella, Peacock, and Parasoul was mentioned here at least. Also if they confirmed a retail release for their version.

Oh wow, we're in Dengeki!! Thanks for posting this!

Nope and yep.

EDIT: Turns out they DID mention a package version. Right in the headline: パッケージ版が登場!

And right next to the new Miku game. No Miku Filia palette what a wasted oppurtunity. But damn exposure though... yay!

Retail!? :O Instant buy!

Oh fuck yes importing double dip. This might warrant a separate article in a bit.

!
We knew Filia's voice, but it looks like that article has revealed Samson:

Samson = Takashi Kondo (近藤 隆)
Filia = Ayana Taketatsu (竹達 彩奈)

According to Wikipedia, he played Faust and Potemkin in the Guilty Gear series, and voiced Suigetsu Hozuki from Naruto.

Is an NA physical release still on the table?

I'm not asking for specific information, just want to know whether I should plan on importing or just wait to see where things go.

I am still fighting to make this happen, but no news about it as of yet.

I am glad this is still considered a possibility at least, that's all I really wanted to hear. I know if there was anything to announce you'd just announce it, whenever you were allowed to anyway.

I would both import and buy locally if a physical copy existed for either NA or JP.

Bump, but more Japan Skullgirls 2nd Encore exposure in the new Famitsu weekly. Target date seems to be somewhere in 2016.

8kKNLDQ.jpg

Not sure if anything new is revealed here. Likely just talking about the gameplay mechanics based on the pics showing tag in, DHCs, snapbacks, alpha counters, and assist calls. Also seems to show off the new modes too.

The screenshots they picked for the article are so odd.

They're... bad.

I don't understand what's happening in them. Did they do that on purpose?

Well, I don't think they're all bad, but I also can't read the context next to any of them.
Like, the tutorial mode screenshot isn't too awful because it looks like it's in a spot that is to promote the tutorial feature.
All the Marie stuff is in the Marie subsection (and isn't too bad..)

Alpha counter picture might be talking about that feature?

On the right top to bottom:
Supers
DHCs
Assist calls

On the left remaining top to bottom:
Tag
Snapback

That's what I got @ArgonBern @Meow-Professor

the "eliza doesn't have time to look at big band" one is the my favorite puzzling screenshot in this article
