The Japanese Amusement Expo will kick off its 2014 event this weekend (Feb 14th & 15th), and Skullgirls Arcade will see what is ostensibly its first serious sessions in Japanese arcades. Japanese adoption of Skullgirls has been somewhat hampered by the lack of arcade cabinet representation, but with this event hopefully being the first of many, noteworthy Japanese players may begin to take an interest.[prbreak]Read more...[/prbreak]

Though the details of the event are somewhat unclear due the very un-English nature of the webpage, the Skullgirls portion of the event is scheduled for 1430 local time (0030 EST) on Saturday, Feb 15th. We've not seen much Skullgirls play from Japan, so any footage that goes out will be extremely interesting to see.

I'd love to see some photos from this if any of our members are going.

Huh, I thought the arcade version got cancelled, since the company handling it (and the PSN version in Japan) got disbanded and absorbed into its parent company.

This is like the first piece of news on arcade sg since its announcement. Will it be the Skullgirls Encore version psn is getting Feb 11? @Ravidrath

The image they use on the web page is Skullgirls Encore.

Cyberfront, the Japanese publisher for the PS3 version folded, but I think the people handling the Arcade version are different people.

this is awesome news so excited for the game to spread and become more main stream

Very nice to have an arcade port of the game.

Huh, don't know why I connected Cyberfront to the Arcade version. Apparently Lab Zero never announced their partner for the arcade port, at least not in anything I can find online.

Oh well, it's still pretty cool that this is happening. I mean, it's useless for North America but maybe this can provide some leverage for getting some American arcades to attempt to build their own SG machines. GGA tends to do that with a lot of console fighters.

If I'm not mistaken, the company handling the arcade version is M2. http://www.mtwo.co.jp/news/20130523.html
I think their team visited Salty Cupcakes too back when the French Bread team visited...

If it's not M2, I don't know who it is.

Isn't it Marvelous AQL?

This is great news. Those wacky japanese will play anything and play it well. This could be a renaissance for skullgirls if there ever was one. I really hope it takes off. I wish there was something i could do to help push it in the right direction.

Indeed this is excellent news. I could see someone like Sako or Haitani who were big Vampire Savior players get into it. I also think the Japanese are a lot more open to trying out different types of fighters.

As long as the arcade version is on the Encore build then the event should play out much more favorably for SG.

I maaaaay head over to this, but I don't really have a feasible camera! =(

This is fantastic. Can't wait to see what the actual machine looks like. Lab Zero should get some of those machines lol

This is interesting news. Hopefully, this means that it'll be coming out in Japanese arcades sooner than later. Could be a good steady source of revenue.

Well thank you for clearing that up. Idk how arcade machines work now a days (since I don't own or keep up with arcade machines in japan myself lol)

i was wondering about something:

We always hear about the obstacles Lab Zero encounters every two weeks or so to getting new versions of the game out of consoles, but how difficult will it be for Mike get the arcade version up to date with the current version on PC?

I'm assuming there will be some extra bureaucracy since its a port.

It depends on whatever testing or fees Taito requires before putting out patches.

And don't hold your breath on LZ getting a cabinet. The service is expensive and doesn't work outside of Japan.

sounds like it's open to the public-- just not playable to the public?

I'm hype for this! :D I hope I get to try it out once I go to Japan, one of these days or years.

Arcade version will be latest whatever version exists on PC when they finish it; I am fairly sure since it can be easily updated after that, though.

Get me a photo of this arcade cab running SG and a photoshop of Mike pointing at it on his TV, STAT.

Man this news makes me happy. Loads of stuff going the way it should be. #RIPCurse

What time is this US EST?

Also any word on a stream?

It keeps kicking me out and telling me to pay for premium.

Anyone know of any re-streams or any antics like that?

Or any idea when SG is supposed to be even streamed?

Haha, I love messing with the nico Japanese chat. They are currently showing a game that lets you battle with Japanese yen. Oh Sega, you crack me up.

Edit: now they are showing Fighting game trailers. They might show a trailer for SG.

Oh snap, new GG Xrd trailer.
