In what is assuredly the most significant announcement regarding Skullgirls in recent history, Lab Zero Games have announced plans to port Skullgirls Encore to the Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita!

After pledging to support the PS4 in February of last year, Lab Zero have finally made good on their promise; Skullgirls Encore for PS4 and PS Vita is due to be released this year with several features that will put it above its last-gen sisters. Of note, all Indiegogo-funded DLC characters will be available for free by default, with the PS4 and PS Vita editions being touted as the "complete" experience you enjoyed on 360/PS3/PC.

The list of currently announced features includes:
  • Online matchmaking lobbies, enabling you and seven of your closest friends to brawl together in the same (virtual) room at the same time. Included alongside normal lobbies is Queen of the Hill, a modified lobby type where one player competes against all others for control of the hill.
  • A sprawling art gallery with over 600+ images, from concept art to character posters. Also included is a BGM player, loaded with every music track in the game.
  • All previous DLC characters (Squigly, Big Band, Fukua, Eliza, Beowulf, Robo-Fortune) will be included by default. You're all caught up as soon as you buy the game.
  • Playstation TV support, enabling play of the PS Vita version of Skullgirls Encore from the comfort of your couch.

Skullgirls Encore for Playstation 4 and Vita is slated to release in late Q1 2015. For more information, click here.

How does the Vita compare to the PS3 in terms of memory? Wonder how the game will run on it.

I'll ask anyway; Are these features still planned for release on 360 and PS3? I see that the PS4 and vita are getting these ahead of last-gen since it's "easier". But will the lobbies and art gallery be out by then or some time after?

I am imagining it will be graphically downscaled in order to both meet the PS Vita resolution & processing power(unless i'm told otherwise by the Devs).

Finally, a reason to buy a PS4. I wonder if they'll be able to add content that the last gen consoles had issues with?

So what does this mean? Could someone pick up the Skullgirls IP? Sony? getting more characters? with the PS4 sales does any of that goes to Lab Zero?!?!?!?

Hooray, more good things are happening for Skullgirls, I wonder if it will still be priced the same.

I guess I should be the guy that asks if PS3 players playing against PS4 or Vita players and vice-versa will be a thing (No, not the hat :PUN:).

None of that? It means Skullgirls is being ported to PS4 and PS Vita. No idea where you got any of that from.

It's also playable on PlayStation TV. This news just keeps getting better.

No, as they didn't with PC version to keep things fair. If Big Band was inexplicably larger in one version of the game, I can tell you which version of the game wouldn't be tourney legal.

I wonder if there will be a discount for people who already own the PS3 version.

Let this be cross buy please!

I knew good things were in store for SG. This is only the tip of the iceberg. Pretty soon L0 will be rollinnnn in the biggg bucks.

So will these versions also allow the assists to stay on screen after a victory?

Also, if I have to send violently polite letters to Nintendo to get this on Wii U, I'll do it; obviously it's more complicated than that, but I'll support you guys either way. I have a vita already and plan to get a ps4 but I'd take a Wii U version over either.

Never would have thought I would seriously consider buying a $400 system for a $15 game.

What am I doing with my life.

Speaking of the price of the game, I wonder if there'll be a price increase.

But then your realize that game is Skullgirls. Then it makes scence

And Also this may be the third time I will buy this game

Good things are happening, good things indeed.
I pray that this signals the end of The Gypsy Curse.

Since the PC/PS3 Cross-play didn't happen, is there a chance there will be cross-play between PS3 and PS4 like the upcoming Guilty Gear Xrd? Or would that be too expensive to implement?

All DLC characters!

Annie on the go...

"Exclusively" to PS4 and PSVita? Sounds like another victim of the Xbone's parity clause. If I was a betting man, I'd guess that Marvellous is going to be chipping in towards the porting costs.

Mike did say that a PS4 port was probobale. And by Proboble I think he ment Were working on a PS4 port
