Skullgirls Team Building Thread

I've been picking up Fukua to play with Bella on a duo team. I'm confident for h lnl for Bella but not entirely sure what Fukua assist I should take. I like M Shadow because it's nice area control and there is potential reset setups because it launches but H Drill has good reset potential also and damage. So yeah if anyone has any ideas much would be appreciated
Also I love Bella on point so maybe M Shadow would be better because it helps me get in. Not sure

They're both pretty good tbh. Try them both and see which one you like more. Protip they both let you do Battle Butt + assist which makes your Battle Butt plus on block woah

So I switched peacock with Parasoul on my main team I like (H)shot but does Parasoul work well with BigBand I feel like Brass would overlap with shot for PW and I care for dp assists but I'm thinking of (L) Bomber

Parasoul does work well with Big Band; Tearshot assist makes a lot of his stuff safe and both Brass+BE are great for Soul.
If you care about DP assists and are afraid of Shot+Brass overlap, why not PW/Beat Extend/Tearshot? That looks like the strongest config for those 3 characters to me.

Yo, I'm looking for some advice on which character I can add to my team. I play val / parasoul (napalm pillar assist). Is this the right thread to ask?

More or less. The answer, however, depends. Are you looking for a specific kind of assist? Do you want an extra set of DHC options?

Regardless, the answer is probably "play who you like. any team works"

Double, M Bomber
Cerebella, Copter
Big Band, H Brass

Would be some good ones.

Well I'd defiantly like something with good DHC combo potential, I like napalm pillar with val but I'm not sure who would work well with parasoul.

Double, M Bomber
Cerebella, Copter
Big Band, H Brass

Would be some good ones.
Double sounds interesting to me, what are the main uses for M hornet bomber? Whats a good order for Val parasoul, double? I've seen double used as an anchor and it seems good.

Double is the anchor.
L Bomber is much better for Parasoul but M Bomber is very good as a horizontal space control assist for Valentine.
It's main uses in combos are corner carry while preserving OTG so that you can end in sHK sHK sHK x Vial load.
If you already have them in the corner then you can combo into it, load a vial, pick up after, and then sHK sHK sHK x Vial load for 2 vials.

I like that, I'll give it a try, Also could fukua's H drill be used similarly?

With the current state of assist missiles, would they be a better choice over beam if you run a Robo/Parasoul/Eliza?

EDIT:

@tinm H drill can be used similarly! But it's changed a little bit recently so you won't be able to combo from it as slowly as you could before.

So I'm thinking of running a Painwheel/Squigly/Eliza team and I was wondering what you guys think would be good assists.

I'm currently using Arpeggio for lockdown and Dive of Horus for corner pressure and air resets. I was also thinking that Draugen Punch and Osiris would serve the same purpose, but I'm not sure if it would be better or not. Horus seems like it would be more useful for squigly since the huge ground bounce gives her time to get one of her charges.

I have no idea what to run on painwheel. Her lockdowns seem decent, but I was wondering if pinion dash would be good. Any thoughts?

don't use draugen punch as an assist. it's fuckawful bad if you don't have a charge.

Arpeggio and Dive of Horus is probably pretty good. It's a very offense heavy assist choices without a lot to help you out with neutral or defense, but if that fits your playstyle go for it. Arpeggio is sort of unusual but I don't think it's necessarily bad. It would be more common to see people running Squigly c.HP assist (hits low) or Drag n Bite assist (moves forward) if they wanted a lockdown assist, but Arpeggio does more chip than either of those assists so it might be worth trying. Osiris is a pretty good assist, but it's a lockdown assist. Squigly doesn't really have a good assist option other than her lockdown assists, so if you run Osiris you're gonna have two assists that do the same thing, which isn't really optimal.

I've tried Draugen Punch assist before, it is really phenomenally bad. Because Squigly has to go through the stance start up animation, it isn't invincible on start up. It doesn't knock down on hit so it's not easy to convert off if it somehow actually hits something. If Squigly has punch stance charged up it solves both these problems, but you have to have Squigly on point, charge her up, tag her back out, and then you get exactly one (1) use out of the good assist before it's back to being terrible.

Pinion is good for some characters but not others. Basically H Pinion is good if it lets you convert off something you normally can't, and I don't think Squigly or Eliza have anything like that. Outside of Pinion, Painwheel doesn't really have good assists, and Pinion doesn't help your characters so just run whatever. Taluda runs throw assist for gimmicks.

I feel comfortable with running a Valentine/Parasoul/Eliza team (though I may still use Squigly from time to time), for Parasoul I'm sure Napalm Pillar is the best choice here, any idea on which assists would probably work best for the other two?

Valentine is literally the only reason I would ever run M-Bomber over L-Bomber on a team, even if L-Bomber overlapped with another horizontal assist or invuln assist. sHK + Bomber poison extensions, carry/route considerations, and general range/coverage are too important to her, even to the point of removing an invuln AC option from double's entry.

Eliza with L shot is really good.

Val with L shot in the corner is REALLY REALLY GOOD

izzmo runs, val/osiris spiral/ L shot and does rather amazing.

@mcpeanuts faced it during QM at times and finds it annoying.
So I'm thinking I'll run L shot, Osiris Spiral/Butcher's Blades (depends on how aggressive I want to be), and c.MK for Valentine? Is that good?

Edit: also what makes Valentine in the corner with L shot so good?

L shot is a combo breaker, a trap that stays on screen that gives the opponent a hard time figuring out when to press buttons without the tear messing it up for them.

the team is good btw

I would say use pillar instead of shot. Sure, L shot is good for approaching and pressure, but you already have Osiris spiral/butcher's blade for block pressure and Val does really well with a DP assist due to her rather poor reversals and middling anti-airs.

Spiral is what I found annoying on that team tbh

Really? I don't see people use L shot very often.

People often mix between L and H Shot, and in general more people are trending towards some varaint of Napalm Shot Assist over pillar.

I actually think Pillar goes very well with both Val and Eliza, but if you already were going to run Spiral assist then you'd have 2 vertical reaching assists which could be a little redundant. There are other eliza assists you could use (Butchers Blade, Dive of Horus) that could work instead, but they aren't as easy/straightforward as Napalm Shot, which is why it's easier to recommend Spiral+Shot.

I guess I can just experiment with it.

So I'm pretty garbage with team building I'm sure, but my team currently consists of __?__/robo/filia and the space is open for fukua, val, which I have quite a bit of prior experience with, or anyone else I may want to throw in. I also am using beam and updo. So in in particular I'm looking for a point char and just any advise on my overall team build and maybe even change up my assists

I think Val would work well with that team. Val (H Bypass)/Robo (H Beam)/Filia (Updo looks pretty good. Val gives you a good roundstart and H Beam helps her get in (and encourages the opponent to crouch, leaving them open to IAD approaches and instant overheads) while Val always appreciates a DP assist like Updo for anti-airing and to make up for her poor reversals. You can also end a Val combo in HKx3, tag to Robo and start zoning once she is a bit low on life and then H Bypass will help you convert off of beams (it also might let you convert off of throw meterlessly?) and your zoning overall while Robo also likes Updo. Robo also gives Val a safe DHC out.

Fukua would also work well with that team (she works well with most anyone). H Beam would be good for her zoning and while she doesn't want a DP as much as Val, it is still good. I'd probably go for Robo (H Beam)/Fukua (M Shadow)/Filia (Updo). In retail M Shadow assist helps strengthen Robo's zoning by creating a wall and in beta it allows for conversions off of full screen beams (and probably throw). You could run her on point though and she'd still probably be quite good.

In regards to other characters, Double would be quite good. I think M Bomber allows for meterless conversions off of Robo's throw (L Bomber definitely does) and it helps provide Filia with good lockdown. She also has HP which would allow you to safely tag in Robo and start zoning like Val's HKx3.

Parasoul is another option, L/H Shot would help with Robo zoning and Filia rushdown and she has very good buttons (so a very good round start). I don't think she would give Robo a meterless conversion off of throw though. If you went for Para then you could consider swapping Updo for H Hairball for the lockdown and using Pillar with Para but I think I'd stick to using L/H Shot and Updo since if Para dies then Robo would be stuck without a DP assist.

Painwheel could also work. She likes a DP assist and H Beam lets her get in and encourages crouching which she likes obviously. One of her pinion assists probably allows for a meterless conversion off of Robo's throw as well.

Peacock would also be good. H Beam looks like it'd be very helpful for zoning while Updo helps alleviate her poor defense.

You could use any of the other characters (Fortune, Band, Eliza, Bella, Beo, Squigly) but Fortune would just give you another DP assist which is less than ideal (though you could swap Filia to H Hairball if you wanted to use her) and all of the other characters I think would be better either mid or anchor on your team.

Hope that helps.

been researching mine and top level play of peacock teams/ PW teams (team(Taluda) and i think a defensive assist like a dp as my anchor character would help the the Pea/PW/? team my Pocket team is just PW point any ideas?

What would think about if I put BB somewhere in the team instead of val?

For BB I'd say go for Robo (H Beam or missiles in beta)/Filia (H Updo)/BB (HBrass). Brass is really good for zoning, counter calling and approaching so it would work really well for both Robo and Filia. That team would be really good I think.

The obvious answer is Big Band. Filia may also work. Filia second with Peacock first lets you convert off any stray Argus into a full combo with a DHC. I don't think Filia gets anything off H Pinion assist, but then I don't think any of the characters with DP assists do other than Big Band.

I could see zoning Parasoul doing okay with pinion assist, if you want something other than Big Band. But yes, Big Band is the obvious first choice if he fits your playstyle.

I may be remembering wrong, but doesn't one of the Chicago players us Parasoul with pinion assist?

im really trying to not play Band even though its pretty good playing parasoul gives somewhat safe dhc for everyone and install conversion off sniper shot Pilar is good just really slow tearshot will work like how i use brass without armor/launch

You could try playing the duo if you're brave. Anchor Painwheel got much better in the beta with her buffed armor and install, and her fast overheads make it easier to open people up without assists. The only problems are if you don't enjoy playing duo in the first place, or if you feel like Peacock needs two assists.

edit: but if you do go with anchor Parasoul, you get full MvC2 Team Scrub palettes.

I've been playing parasoul/Fukua for a while, and I'm soul searching for a 3rd. beta M.clone changes are making my search harder as I can't use mclone as a vertical air control assist in trio like before.

I'm fine with either being point, I'm just looking for either a mid or an anchor that fits well. The obvious choices are double in either spot, big band or bella on anchor, but I'm not really sold on any of those characters.

Mainly use Lshot and H.drill asists in the duo, or pillar if I'm running fukua point.

I feel like Parasoul (Lshot)/Fukua(drill)/Band (extend) is probably my best option? Does Hbrass work well with para and fukua?

Brass works well with Parasoul and likely also with Fukua, yeah.

In general though, since you can play that team in all of
- Soul/Fukua/X
- X/Fukua/Soul
- Fukua/X/Soul
(Probably even still with anchor Fukua, but Cadenza thinks that's unviable in the Beta)
AND both Fukua & Soul are rather self-sufficient characters that provide both good assists & usable DHCs..
.. You can really pick anyone you like.

That didn't make your search any easier :P
But yeah, just pick whomever you like next best and they'll probably fit.

Someone rate Fortune (H.Fiber) / Val (cMK) / Double (M.Bomber) for me pls
Good enough? Val 2nd sucks? Fortune/Bomber suboptimal? Things
