Skullgirls Team Building Thread

On Point... Well... I'm gonna think about that... :)
Shadow you say? Thats good idea. But why M? Slide isn't better?

And what about peacock assist?

Peacock with m shadow assist is probably the most annoying/abusive strat ive played against on sg.

It was only one game so i didnt have time to find a counter, but yeah i was basically stuck on the ground unable to move.

Question! I am planning on playing Peacock/Updo/Brass H. Should I switch Filia to Hairball or is this team comp enough? Also, does Filia work well with the knuckles? I'd like some insight from better players :P

I don't think Brass is that good of an assist for Filia. I could be wrong there, it sort of depends if you can combo into Gregor or Drill xx Gregor and if that's hit confirmable. It's a really strong neutral game assist and it's great for counter calls but if you can't actually combo off it that's a really big problem (this is one of the reasons why I run Squigly, I can combo off the assist with her).

I wouldn't recommend running both Hairball and Brass as assists. They're redundant, they cover the same horizontal space. Updo and Brass is better, you have Updo for when they're close and Brass when they're far away. You may also consider running H Hairball and L Beat Extend. That way you still have a horizontal assist for zoning and a vertical get-off-me assist, but now your other two characters work together better: Hairball is better for Big Band than Updo (gives him better mixups and neutral which he really needs rather than another reversal which he kind of doesn't) and Beat Extend is better for Filia (it's an assist she can actually combo after, also it's better for lockdown than you might think). The tradeoff here is that I don't think Hairball/Beat Extend is as good for Peacock. It kind of depends on if you want to make a balanced team where everyone works well together or if you wanna make the best Peacock team possible. Either way is valid, I think.

Probably should have posted this question here first, but now that I've found this thread I'll go ahead and put it here. I recently picked up the game, and I'm trying to figure out who to run alongside Ms Fortune. I'm leaning toward a pair, but haven't ruled out a trio. Filia, Fukua, and Valentine are the leading contenders. I noticed in the census thread that Filia is more popular as a middle/anchor, so maybe Fortune (Fiber)/Filia (Updo)?

yes and you're all set

I'm very new to this game and i'm happy to find a thread that's been posted on this year.. This is the first fighting game i've actually played (since most people don't count Smash Bros as a fighting game) and i really like it so i'm looking for some advice.

There's still some terminology I don't quite get such as DHC and Point/anchor but i can follow s.Lk/c.MK/QCF.Hk and such.

I'm looking for a decent/strong team comp to start playing now, after figuring out who I like out of the roster; From top to bottom: Squigly, Filia, Fukua, Val, Fortune, Para, Peacock, [I would rather not play the last 4] PW, BB, Bella, Double.

Any tips on team comps or how to learn/figure out combo strings on my own?

Take your first 3 chars and don't run Squigly 3rd, team works out.

Learn combos by pressing buttons in training mode
What he said about team composition.

i find that you can run squigs/fukua/filia. or run squigs/filia/fukua. make sure to use M shadow for fukua assist tho

I'm afraid to ask about this, but I run PW on point, Fortune on second, and Double on anchor. I was wondering if I should change the order since I like safe DHCs.

Why are you afraid to ask about this?

And I'd say that's the perfect order for that team, but you *can* switch;
Fortune builds meter nicely, so PW 2nd might work out as well. Fiber is just p.nice for PW to have.
What keeps you from just trying? :P

And you give up a good assist when you put PW second... though you will get a good DHC.

I'd say keep it as is and worry about keeping your meter for Double's safe DHC.

Thanks for the advice and I just remembered that fiber is a good alpha counter. I guess I don't have to rely on dhc for tagging when pressured.

What do you guys think of Peacock (Gregor H) / Bella (Lock n Load) / Double (Bomber M)?
Also, would eliza work on this team? where? :3

As far as components go this is a great team, however it has some issues:

2 horizontal assists to assist the point character is semi redundant. Bella is very vulnerable to incoming mixups.

The entire reason why hlnl is good for peacock is that it allows very safe get out of corner crossup teleports. It also has great utility as a general crossup, and as an assist punisher and as a meatshield.

The team is quite good but might be slight redundant. But it has mucho power anyway it goes. A more all around look might be something like peacock with beat extend L and hlnl... Now you have a horizontal and a vertical assist for peacock... Plus band can call out h lnl to make his overheads safe and in neutral to counter assist, and cover his beat extend and just cover the ground.

But your first team is quite good, just letting you know that there are overlap issues.

So I'm thinking of running Team Music when Eliza comes out to give Peacock a break, and I'll probably try Eliza/Squig/Band. What would be good assists for this team? I assume Beat Extend is good for BB but Eliza and Squigly I'm not so sure of. I'm used to using MP Sekhmet assist but without Peacock I'm afraid I'll use up too much meter with that thing, and I'm not sure if I should still be using Drag 'n' Bite.

My big band is really bad, would Cerocopter or Dive of Horus work instead of Beat Extend?

Cerecopter kiiiiiinda... And Horus... Kinda as well.

But neither have invincibility afaik and that is where beat extend excels. It also excels as a hitconfirm since it causes sound stun as an assist and therefor gives characters a ton of time to confirm and get the otg.

Yo but seriously, dont let me talk you out of your original team. It is a good team and its weaknesses are manageable imho. Its just that... Yeah you still have to take its weaknesses into account, like any team cause none are perfect so far.

I think this is actually one of @dekillsage's teams, and that guy does okay, so there's probably something to be said for that.

I don't really know enough about Eliza to answer your second question, sorry.

The Squigly assists are DnB and c.HP. Everything else sucks. For Eliza I would assume you would want c.HP for the dumb air dash mixups but again I don't know much about her. L Beat Extend is the Big Band assist you should use.

I use st.hp for peacocks assist but yeah that team is amaaaaaaazing.

Also I recommend you don't listen to someone that calls assists on a team redundant, because they're wrong and don't know what they're talking about. Sorry guys .-.

That said, how do you decide when you're going to call Hornet Bomber and when you're going to call LnL when they cover the same space?

Hornet bomber angles upwards and hits almost instantly. LNL takes time to start up and only hits horizontally on the ground.
Think of it this way. Which assist do you think is more useful vs Valentine and why?

Both assists controlling the same area of space in virtually the same way equals redundant. I didnt say the team was bad. I said that the assists do basically the same thing... Control the horizontal plane. Like having updo and pillar assists backing up the point. Its redundant. But that doesnt necessarily make it weak.

It's not redundant, but I'm also not going to write a book to explain why. afk

Write a book? You cant even read 2 paragraphs without a "can i get a tldr" so i think books from you are out of the question. And as far as redundancy goes, as far as space is concerned they are redundant. As far as properties are concerned such as startup and armor, crouchability, number of hits and a small amount of horizontal range, they arent. But as i said when i commented to the person asking the question, i was referring to the redundancy in space control.

This thread reminds me of when I wrote a book of an email for someone and he answered it back in one word. No one wants to read a book homie, just get to the point.

I'm bored someone write some books that'll take me half an hour to read

Though admittedly there's a lot of middle ground between "a book" and a sentence.

If You Can't Fit It In One Text Message, Is It A Book? The Answer Is Yes, Wake Up People!

^^ sounds good to me.

I just had a thought. What if Big Band (L Beat Extend)/Painwheel (c.MP)/Double (Cilia Slide) was a team. What if that.

Here is my reasoning:
-Painwheel second lets you combo off Super Sonic Jazz as seen in the following video: http://tinyurl.com/mtg598y Shout outs to @Zevak, this gives you a way to get real damage and reset opportunities off stuff like Brass/Cymbal Clash into Brass/Giant Step into Brass
-Cilia Slide gives you OD high/lows with Big Band from a distance where they can't reversal
-Once Painwheel is in you can use Cilia Slide assist to do @Krackatoa's setups
-Really good DHCs all over the place: SSJ to Install is plus, SSJ to cat heads is plus, Death Crawl/Thresher to Cat Heads is plus, Car to Install is plus, anyone to Big Band is kinda rip but if he's in the back you can use him for his assist which is a better reversal option anyways

Not sure about the Painwheel assist. I'm sort of just going c.MP cause that's what I always use with Painwheel. Maybe it should be H Pinion like in that video I linked, but I have no idea what Double uses that assist for. (Call it and gunshot, convert off the gunshot from full screen on hit? That's kinda diesel if it works but I can't test it right now #whensVita).

The only issue I'm seeing is that the team is really meter hungry and none of these characters really build that much meter. If nothing else it looks really fun. I'm gonna try it out tonight on my stream.
