    Hey everyone.

Autumn Games has given $7500 so we can get some Yamane goodness into Harmonix's new Amplitude game!

We think Unfinished Business is probably the hypest track, so that's what we're going with for now.

This game's fans are almost as passionate as you guys are, so if you like music games you should consider contributing!

If you don't mind, I'll at least give a quick rundown:
      Forum User Banners (open)
-"____ Moderators" are the forum mods for SH
"News Writer" are those that can contribute news but are not moderators.
-"Lab Zero" means that person works for L0 on the game (Ravi, Mike, etc.)
-Names of a SG character are the VAs of the respective character for the game (Hnilmik=Kimlinh Tran <Ms. Fortune>, IamRichBrown=Rich Brown <Big Band>, etc)
-"King of Skullgirls" is for Duckator for taking EVO 20...12, was it?

Anyway, since I actually haven't played Amplitude before, are the songs just straight ports, or are they getting remixed like with the DJ Hero games? Under the Bridge being remixed sounds like a promising prospect.

Mod Edit: Added News Writers to the spoiler.

I think some level of remixing will be required.

We send them the stems (separate instrument tracks) and they turn them into a song in the game.

I was confused, I thought someone was paying to have a song made, not that Autumn donated for a tier and was adding a SG song to Amplitude.

I remember in Amplitude there was a mode where the player can toy with the different instrument tracks to make their own remixes. Here's an example

That is not the version that's normally played in-game, though.

He never said it was the version that was played in game... that was kind of the whole point of his post :P

I've never played Amplitude myself, but two groups of my various housemates over the years have raved about it, so I'm looking forward to giving this a spin. Rock Band Blitz was pretty fun, and I heard it was kind of a simplified Amplitude.

Right, but somebody asked about the remix that might appear as the in-game track, so I just specified that a crazy, out of tune version wouldn't be what Harmonix would create.

if that meant labzero was ok with money and were able to do more things with sg and they could make a living doing what they love then yes

That other guys question was if it would be a hugely different remix like the mashups in DJ hero. Based on the whole "your song with the rights you own" part of the Kickstarter I think the version in Amplitude won't be much different from that in SG.
The 'remixing' render mentioned at the top of page 2 here wasn't referring to a change in the notes, beat, or anything musical about the song that would make it sound different from the original. The way this game is played is you control one instrument at a time- match the notes for 4 bars and that instrument will autoplay until the next verse / chorus change while you play and activate the next instrument.
In games like this and Rockband it must be possible to 'miss' notes, so the developers need the seperate audio files for the drums, sax, bass, horns, etc so that if you miss a note for a particular instrument you still hear the rest of the instruments instead of all the music stopping. Also when you start a song in this game there is just a click track and whatever single instrument you start off with- for this particular song that will surely be the sax intro you start off with before moving on to drums, piano. Having the seperate audio tracks makes it possible to hear only the sax while you 'activate' that track, then add in each individual instrument as you play and unlock those tracks. Make sense?
Also in this game after you complete the song it goes from the end to the first verse so you can 'freestyle' scratching, synth fx, etc as a celebration for beating the song. This skips playing the intro again, so after you beat Unfinished Business in Amplitude it will likely loop back to 0:32 in the song. I think that is the extent to the remixing that Harmonix will do for what you play in Amplitude.

My previous post wasn't about the presentation of the song in the game, but touched on the possibility of USER remixes. There's a mode where you can alter the timing, order of notes, and rhythm of the various instruments to make your own remixes of whatever songs are in the game. I was just mentioning that it will be possible for users to make their own simple remixes in the game. I remember in the first game Frequency there were Harmonix staff-made remixes as examples of what you can do. I don't know if that will be carried over in this new build as I'm sure there may be various agreements and permissions as to what can be done with the music tracks in the game, but such things are possible when you have access to individual music tracks. You won't see see a mashup of Skullgirls with say Insane Clown Posse or whoever else may show up in the game, but if someone were to extract the audio files it could be possible for person to do it with their Digital Audio Workstation.

As a fanboy of Harmonix's old games, I don't think I can scream any louder than when I screamed that the Amplitude kickstarter made it. I'm going to especially play the shit out of this song and take that leaderboard spot!

I also can't imagine Harmonix ruining this song with a remix. I can only imagine awesomeness.

If you have a PS2, do yourself a favor and grab FreQuency and Amplitude. Do it.

I didn't know that track had an official name! Derp. 8} Good to know.

Anyway, wow, good on Autumn! It's a great song and I can definitely see it making a good track for a rhythm game, since it changes up the tune so much. Also, electronic remixes of jazzy songs are my lifeblood, so if they remix it that's hardly an issue.

      Too bad I don't own a PS3/4, though ):

I read "electronic remixes of jazzy songs" and I think of electro swing. Might not be what you're looking for, but it's pretty legit all the same.

Electroswing, swinghouse, gypsy jazz, Neo-Charleston, etc. tend to cover several of the bases, yeah. Buuuuut I wouldn't actually say it's one "genre" because of all the variations. There's jazz-rap, bossa-hip-hop, big band dubstep, all kinds of combinations really

Parov Stelar is pretty much everybody's first introduction to this stuff, though I'm not as much of a fan since his music tends toward the electronic and I prefer it a little more on the jazzy side of things.

Sunny Bunny Blues is an awesome song though.

Caravan Palace is a pretty insanely great band, pretty well known. If you like more electronic actual remixes, Kid Kasino is pretty good. Also Swingrowers and The Electric Swing Circus are neat.

But personally, Alice Francis has a special place in my heart. :> She's got sort of a kinda-pop-kinda-hip-hop jazzy style and it's excellent.

Sadly one of my favorite songs of hers "Please, Love Me Too" isn't on youtube in full but all of her songs are gold really

(In summary, yeah, I wouldn't mind a remix in the least.)

I heard nothing about this game. I remember during the indivisible campaign I would think how can people not know about such a good game. I guess i know how now. I missed the skullgirls campaign too...
