Normally I don't like these YouTube reviewers but this guy seems well-spoken and is giving a nice review-

"I don't think matches should be all about who lands the first Infinite"

Damn it.

I expected that he'd atleast mention the custom assists, cuz thats a really cool feature. :/

or any other the other features of the game, you know. kinda looked like he just skimmed the tippy top of the game and didn't really bother to look into anything else. it's a shame cause SG is a bit deeper than most people outside of the community think.

That the problem with fighting games you need to look deeper it's not something you can skim. Might have to do with him doing the marathon.

To be fair, during the part where he mentions infinites, he is getting double-snapped.
Chances are he just didn't understand the interactions with assists well enough to realize "Oh, my assist character is getting combo'd."

I suck at the game and even I can see the amount of depth in the game,
its easy to see with how thoroughly my ass gets whooped.

This review felt a lot more rushed than his other ones, I mean he did miss out details like custom assists, highly detailed training mode and great netcode.

Could have represented the game a bit better.

Well... A double snap combo IS an infinite.

The fact that you have to make a huge mistake and get both characters combod near or close to the corner and that you probably should lose an assist for that, doesn't change the fact that it's an infinite.

If he's just proccing ips though... Well yeah game reviewers almost never get fighting games reviews right unless they specifically play the game. Even fighting game reviewers can get games wrong, who have lots of experience with fighting games.

Though I'd much rather a reviewer rate the control, graphics, content and stuff, it's rare.

Wait a second I just thought of something.

He says there are only 8 characters in the game at this point, assuming he has all the latest patches, since it was the pc version, wouldn't that not mean he should also have Fukua as playable as well?

I lol'd at the "infinites" thing a little too, but it's a good reminder of the mindset of someone unfamiliar with fighting games.

Totally appreciate the guy checking out the game, though! I contacted him to see if he wanted some codes to give out to followers or whatever.

Also it's really goddamn hard to review a fighting game to the standards of people who play fighting games. It's also really hard to make a fighting game that meets the standards of people who play fighting games.

almost as painful as the penny arcade report's review of KOF 13.

Everyone is cringing but his mindset is pretty much anyone with a casual interest in fgs.

Remember to not be dicks please.

It still can't hurt to have a demo
I agree. Having a ready to go bomb to lob at anyone who throws the word infinite around is one of my greatest creations.

he'll get into drugs and things...
Ahh my young mind so easily tainted by manipulative people and drugs and other things I need more videos to make.!!!
D:::::

It still can't hurt to have a demo, and Skarmand needs things to do, otherwise he'll get into drugs and things...

Absolute guard is my anti-drug

well either way we can't be mad at him he gave SG a positive review.

But this does inspire me to make a video that fully covers all of the stuff that Skull Girls has so that no one else will get confused or mistake something for an infinite.

We got to change the mind sets of the public about this or else it'll keep happening again, which will bum me out see it might lose new people wanting to play this game.

Anti Drug PSA Video: Big Band parries needles from Val to protect young Peacock
He still gets hit by them and it affects him so what example is he setting for young Peacock there?

Damn, you right. Drugs hurt no matter what.

The online part was the worse. He says that was destroyed by other players, but isn't this true to every fighting game? Have he ever tried to play on "newbies welcome" lobby?

no because in all likelyhood he didn't know about it. also i don't see a lot of newbies welcome labeled lobbies.

Looking at the plus cause there is a ton of negatives here, he gave the game exposure, he liked it, he recommends it. So what he didnt know there are no infinites so will most outside looking in. We want this game to be recognized gotta stop picking at parts we know casual players won't understand. With that being said... he should've went in a wee bit more depth with the custom assist I agree...but at least he didn't stay on the topic of fanservice it was hey they have boobies keep it moving

I agree with this, his opinions on the story and complaints about "infinites" are wrong, but this i what the casual player sees in fighting games like this. This is perhaps why it's harder for fighting games to have as much growth as other games do.

I never watched this guy before, so I don't know if he reviewed another fighting game. But even if he didn't, he should at least made a little research about general skill level of online warriors in fighting games. In the end, it's not a big deal, but it leaves the impression that this "problem" is exclusive to SG.

And when I say try "newbies welcome" lobby I mean making a lobby instead of just finding one. The impression I got is that he just went online: "let's try making a lobby (waits for 10 seconds), no one showed, let's try entering other people lobby (gets kicked), ok let's try quick match (loses a few matches), ok, I'm done, thx, bye". If he had the luck to find someone that just started playing the game, he could have said: "OMG online is so godlike, really fun to play!!11!".

Not really a bad review. Is just these points that annoyed me a little.

well i think the reason why we as the community cringe when we hear some one say that the game has infinite is that the game teaches you that there isn't and that the concept of no infinite is quite simple to grasp, and yet somehow in a review or in casual talk a new player will mistake a reset or a doublesnap as an infinite or in the reset's case an unblockable.

In the end maybe one of the guys who works on the tutorials (render i think, not 100% sure) can make two new advanced lessons teaching the player how to do powerful resets with crossups and crossunders and how to block them, along with a lesson with double snaps where it teach the player how to do a double snap and to encourage the player on looking out for bad assist calls so that they may be punished.

The double snap tutorial would be nice, and maybe a crossover/under tutorial but some of it really just comes from practice and skill.

maybe? i mean if we have a tutorial then they wouldn't really have an excuse on saying that they didn't know that or couldn't tell the difference between resets and bursts and all the other stuff that new comers usually get confused on. idk...

and on the case of double snaps that i feel should be something that should be explained and given to a new player in a lesson in the tutorial section. Tell them about it, why it happens, why you should do it, and then give them an example to see and practice doing so that they physically understand what is going on.
