Holy balls that's good stuff.

The main theme itself is also great. It's goofy and badass at the same time.
 
You're mostly telling them apart by what color they're spreading. Hats and different skin colors have been introduced in the latest trailer, but the bright color is the main indicator to who's who

The octopi are actually just the creatures in the single-player campaign. Traveling in Super Mario Galaxy esque stages (But underground or something, if you look closely you'll see it's just a backdrop with some panels missing). There was a humanistic octopi girl shown off in the trailer, so playable octopi characters are a possibility as well.

Pretty easy to tell the difference - look at the suckers and how the tentacle is shaped - triangle is octopus, penis shaped is squid.

Oh, I thought the multiplayer was supposed to be Squid vs Octopus, these look like single player campaign enemies. I guess multiplayer is squid vs squid.

Can't imagine,
the octopi have way too different mobility and skill-sets, if they did they would play really different from the Inklings and would be more akin to TF2 where everyone is a special class with specific weapons and abilities whereas Inkling teams only change weapon loadouts.

We don't really know that character's specific function, though.
For all we know there could only be one of those.

To be fair, most of the Inklings look identical outside of varying skin colours, accessories and weapons. Same thing could be possible for Octopus girl.

the Inkling girl is just your main inkling
