It appears that a new weapon will be making a sploosh at Ammo Knights tonight prior to Splatfest. The Neo Sploosh-o-matic has the same close-combat functionality as the Sploosh-o-matic, but with a neat, custom look. Some may even say that it has a neo look, ha! A good kit for strategists, this kit also comes with the Squid Beakon sub weapon to help your teammates Super Jump in, and Tenta Missiles to lay down covering fire.
 
I just watched a playthrough of the bosses, since I don't think Splatoon 1 had any big cutscenes except for the end?

edit - wow almost forgot splatfest was today
 
You could watch ChuggaaConroy’s playthrough. If you don't mind his sometimes hyper commentary, he's very informative. Also you get to see a bunch of the Squid Sisters dialogue since he played PvP fof it too, which feels more natural than not seeing Inkopolis during a story playthrough.

This really feels like they took the criticisms about the story of Splatoon 2 seriously.

Though, they might have planned this, with Cap'n' Cuttlefish's disappearance.
 
I'm sure they had plans. They were trying to figure this out no later than 2016.
Still doesn't show a justification for Callie narratively... Marina's over here, Callie was over there, it seems like the perfect explanation for why (easy antagonist choice is 'nids).

Whether they build on it narratively or not, we could at least get Callie's angle now. What it was like behind the glasses; a distortion of priorities. Ambition, jealousy, rebellious tendencies. But also still being herself, working with Turquoise October, being an idol to the Octarians.

Few more details from the trailer if anyone missed them. Your octoling wears tracking devices. Agent 3 is canonically a girl. There was a digital map of subway sections.

Also it's available for pre-order noooow. Launch date says 7/31, but who knows. Buying it also gets a red layered LS with an octopus sticker plus red studio headphones that are Cuttlegear brand, I guess (I just want octoling armor!).

It's a possibility, but I'm more certain that we're getting the leather top (may include backpack) and shoes.

Proper octoling armor might be an armor upgrade for the octoling... we also haven't gotten the Splatoon 2 upgraded armors (maybe for Off The Hook amiibos), just the old ones through amiibo.

We live in an era where one of the best rappers is a 4'? non-minority rich girl made by Nintendo.

I suspect they've been talking to Suda. Committing to the 80s pop-culture atmosphere would be cool.

If so, hopefully in Splatoon 3 we will get some decent MALES to run the Splatfests and news. They can be the Beastie Boys - Lil' Judd is MCA, and the anchors are Ad-Rock and Mike D!

This isn't spoilers, just speculation, but the octo story's just going to be Blade Runner, more or less.

Brush Runner if you will.

Wow, I did not expect an 18% difference in popularity. I guess Octo Expansion hype really did hype up a lot of people to play, because there weren't all that many mirror matches so there must have been plenty of Team Chicken players too. This Splatfest was also the first time in ages I've seen the "Connection Unstable" popup so maybe the playercount created issues.

This is also the first time in the 6 Splatfests I've been in that I've seen more than a 2% difference in battle results. My battles went pretty well on Friday night, some bad teams but I was winning enough that it might've just been occasional bad luck, but during Saturday I definitely felt like I was getting a lot of bad teammates.

Well, back to overanalyzing octo trailer and the official Nintendo JP website.

First of all, because of tracksuit talk, what about the rest of Cuttlefish's outfit?

He has those distinct headphones, and his captain's hat is turned around. His shoes are pretty standard Splatoon slip-ons.

This guy will probably be involved.

He's the only passenger who didn't ignore the octoling, he's in focus on this promo, and he fits the rapper vibe. He's some isopod, so my first though is a connection to Sheldon. But his suitcase appears to be full of dolls and other toys(not seen: an octotrooper doll on the seat next to him).

So obviously this is the subway map, and the gear symbol must be options. But there's also a symbol that looks like an octopus with a thought bubble. Our own thoughts might be the new Sunken Scrolls.

The picture from the JP site also contains a message box. This is probably to contact Pearl and Marina, who, according to the wiki's translated info, are supporting from above-ground.

Apparently the green Octarians are "Sanitized Octarians." I was thinking clones, but this is much darker.

I can't tell if this is aboveground or very brightly-lit. It would be cool if we got other aboveground stops on the subway than just Inkopolis Square, even if we never get let out.

They've definitely gotten the aesthetic variety this time.

Since obviously the game was full of buildings floating in nothing already, they've really gone all-in with the surreal floating objects in these levels. Combine this with the level types we saw in the trailer, and there's a lot of stuff to be seen.
