Okay, so the new streams tab is live. There are some things that you should know about it:

UPDATE: ONLY DO THE PART IN SPOILERS BELOW IF YOU ARE USING HITBOX.TV
  • For some reason, scraping for all live streams that are playing SG isn't working right now. This means that the only way to get a stream to show up in the list is to submit it for moderator approval. You only need to do this once for each stream, by clicking on the Streams tab, then "" and filling in the URL for the stream:
    Submit.PNG
  • You don't need to own the stream to submit it - please add any others you come across!
  • Even if your stream is approved by a moderator, it still will not show up if you haven't set your Twitch preferences correctly. Make sure that the following box is not checked:
Twitch.jpeg
  • Finally, while you are streaming on Twitch, you need to be listed as playing Skullgirls:

    playingsg.PNG

  • So far the only site enabled is twitch.tv. Other streaming sites (DailyMotion, LiveStream, Justin.tv, CyberGame.tv) are supported, but I'm not sure if people actually use those for SG so I've left them out for now. There's no option to add in nico streams, either.
  • The blocks on the forum index and news page are limited to 4 streams, and are currently chosen by the number of views (so if some streams seem to get priority, that is why).
  • Art/etc. streams are fine as well, so long as they are Skullgirls-related.
For any other questions, feel free to ask here.

Not really a question since I don't see another thread about this or an announcement thread but the red "1" on the Streams tab sorta implies theres a notification or something and I don't think it should be there.

That's the number of streams currently live. I'm not sure if it's possible to remove that.

EDIT: nvm, found it.

I liked it there, it tells me if there are streams without me having to look for it.

Could you make it the same brown color as the rest of the site?
I had a quick try before and couldn't find the CSS property. I can have another look, though.

Ok, so the brown colour just camouflaged the balloon, which kinds defeated the point. On worldjem's advice I've changed it to green, which makes it look less like a notification. Does that sit ok with you, @ashxu ?

It's not the most harmonious color, but IMO it does the job very well. Noticeable, but doesn't make you double-take.

I'm digging the green. Separates well from the red message alerts while at the same time still alerting people effectively that live streams are happening.

Will your stream not show if you are playing a different game? I want to submit mine but I'm not always streaming Skullgirls.

What are the requirements for submitting a stream to the mods and being approved?

What's the process streams go through to get put up in the tab after they're submitted?

A mod sees the request and can approve or deny it at the stream tab. I'm assuming (correct me if I'm wrong Vad) if the stream is gonna regularly be featuring Skullgirls related content (which I'm gonna assume why people submitted the channel request in the first place) then the stream gets approved. That means for example if your gonna be regularly streaming LoL then you don't qualify to be an "approved" channel on this site.

I guess for now we are approving streams manually and see how these channels go because of what Vad mentioned earlier. So far I approved a few channels and the channels are all listed here. When the channel is online (think has to also have the "Skullgirls" tab too on the twitch channel, but not sure) then there will be a notification on the stream tab.

can't it be set so that it only appears visible if you are playing skullgirls?

If you are a SG player we'll accept your stream even if you play other stuff as well. All it means is that if you are listed as playing a different game on twitch then you won't show up as live on this site. As soon as you switch that info back to Skullgirls, you'll start appearing again.

Pretty much what 13 said. At the moment I'm willing to accept any stream that is playing SG at all, and if they start exclusively playing LoL after a month or two and taking visibility away from other streams then we can always remove them.

I was more saying that I don't really like the "1" at all but green is better and I don't really mind that much.

Not really related (sorry, I don't know where to say this), but for some reason, I never see Skullgirls streams on the Chrome twitch app.

If they were there it could bring some more people to the streams.

I don't use Chrome, but I imagine that it's purely a popularity thing - the majority of SG streams have under 100 viewers so there's little reason for twitch to feature them when they could show a LoL or DOTA stream that will bring in big advertising bux.

I completely forgot that there was another skin, lol. Fixing now.

EDIT: Done.

EDIT2: I should note that there are tons of problems with the blue design - it's only there for people who can't sand light-on-dark text.

Since I've never used anything but the blue skin I don't notice problems. (I just think the blue is prettier...)

It's an FGC app (sorry, it's what I meant to write), they show all of their active streams even when nobody is watching them, as I'm typing this there are three streams with 0 people.

I've got no idea, then. Sorry.

Is hitbox.tv supported? I'm burned out on 25s delay shitty quality streams that eat half of the sent messages.

If it's a lot of work don't bother, but if it's an easy add, I'm sitting on hitbox and will probably start streaming SG again sometime soon

It appears that Jaxel will be adding that functionality soon, but it's not currently available.

No real critiques, just wanted to say it's an awesome feature and I'm glad you guys implemented it.

What can I do when there's someone streaming something not-skullgirls?

As a mod, you can go Streams tab > Channels > Channel settings (Spanner icon) and remove them that way. I wouldn't bother unless they are streaming LoL and stealing the block spots from other SG streams. Considering we'd have to re-add them at a later stage, etc. it's not really worth it if someone just forgot to change their streaming info.

(Though if it's clear someone's abusing the system to gain viewers or troll people with a porn stream, they should be deleted immediately)

Oh, there's not a way to go "you aren't streaming sg right now, so go away, but stream sg again and you'll come back?" Oh well.

Not if they've listed themselves as playing SG on Twitch, no.

I guess you could always drop in the stream chat and point out that they're playing a non-Skullgirls game while labeling it as Skullgirls. By adding their Twitch name to the tab they accepted the responsibility to manage game labeling. Their channel doesn't have to be there if that's too much effort.

To be fair, I've actually added a bunch of channels if I've seen them streaming SG. But your point makes sense, leaving a message in their chat should do the job.

Just to give you all an idea of where hitbox.tv support is at, this was posted about a week ago:
Jaxel said:
I've been talking with someone from HitboxTV about feature requests for their API and they are looking into adding query parameters to their API.

So we have to wait for hitbox to add stuff to their API (no idea how long this could take, but they at least seem interested) and then for Jaxel to add support to the addon (also no time frame, but I'd imagine he would be pretty quick once the API is ready).

Disregard my thread about hitbox, then. This is great news!

HitboxTV is now supported. Go nuts.

sorry to reverie this thread, but i have questions.
1) do i need to have a stream done before i can submit?
2) can i play other games on there that have nothing to do with SG or FGC related?

1. You'll need to have a streaming account with Twitch or hitbox, but it doesn't matter to us if you've streamed before.
2. You can play other games on the steam - it's your stream after all - but please remember to change the game you are playing in your Twitch settings if you are playing something else:
playingsg.PNG

So, if you decide to play DOTA for a while, try to avoid leaving the game set as 'Skullgirls'

alright, and if im trying to get people together for a stream is there a thread for that?
