Street Fighter 4

For many characters access to both ultras changes nothing since one is vastly better than the other in terms of comboability or damage; but for some it can be potentially game-breaking. Even at the rumored 66% damage for selecting both, a single Zangief ultra still would do a solid third of most characters's health. If he knocks you down, he just has to churn a 720, if you dp/backdash/jump hit kicks, anything else hit punches, and he's pretty much got a guaranteed ultra for 1/3rd your health.
Some of Zangief's EX moves take a third of your health anyway. Zangief is meant to give out massive damage.

And then there are characters such as Oni who become a confused mass as Ultras start to over lap instead of normal.

I'm not sure of any others that have that issue actually, so I don't know.

Not to mention some characters that have counter ultras as well like Cammy, Fei, and Hakan can really make a match more cautiously played. I guess the question is if you favor more on Raw Damage or Utility.

There's a big difference between getting big damage because you worked to land a move, and getting it because it's practically guaranteed off a knockdown.

Damn that dude went ham on those facial expressions and was being giddy like a schoolgirl after hearing Capcom having financial issues that can result to no next gen fighters from them for the unforeseeable future.

That stare after he did the impression of a Capcom fanboy had me dying.
I'm not exactly 100% happy that Capcom is sinking, but I mean...it's like he said, they have no one to blame but themselves. Most important part for me is that fighting tournaments and stuff in the future are gonna let other games come in and show their stuff (coughskullgirlscough).

While I agree with that guy's point, chiefly on how Capcom invited their own demise, I'd play Devil's Advocate for a second just to say the mainstream competition milks consumers almost as bad. It's not as bad simply by virtue of Capcom having been doing it for longer and in other fronts (Resident Evil comes to mind). I mean, just look at Blazblue CP ("CP" *snort*) - didn't the devs practically swear on their mothers graves' there would be no DLC whatsoever? Or Tecmo-KOEI with DOA5; sure costumes are not as bad as characters but they milk those cows for all they're worth and right after Ultimate, announced a arcade port with a additional character.
And as for next-gen titles? I don't know much about these things but if Capcom can't afford to develop for PS4, who else can besides maybe Namco-Bandai? I'm talking a next-gen title that makes full use of the PS4's potential. Surely, there will be lots of (probably digital) titles in the style of Skullgirls - or indeed Skullgirls 2 - and while there's nothing wrong with that they can't truly toot the next gen horn.

Anyway, the official site's character section has a layout mimicking the character select screen and them 3 additional spaces look quite suspicious. Dare we dream for 3 more characters? And by "3 more characters", I mean Q, Alex and Karin, your feelings be fugged. :3

Quote Combofiend :"We think we have removed unblockables......"
Sounds like bandaid fix to me. Fix the engine!? Not in a million years. LOL

Too early to panic like the sky is falling. Let us see how things fold out at the location tests. In any case, the game got a little less stale now.

I think I'm going to dislike red focus, but I'm willing to give it a shot. What I'm really concerned about right now is how the two ultras thing will affect certain character, specifically the grapplers.

Honestly the only reason I thought red focus was a troll was because the name was so bad... But now I care more about grappler's ultras. I think this is going to make those match ups really interesting to play and to watch.

I can't speak for T.Hawk, but I can see Zangief and Hakan to be more dangerous than ever up close now. in both the air and on the ground.

Red focus + double ultra ... Hakan just became top tier

don't you mean STILL top tier?

Hmm, I wonder how the reduced damage for double ultras will work with Juri's Feng Shui Engine. Because Juri would definitely love using both for the punish options it gives.

I think reduced damage for select supers and ultras wouldn't hurt. mainly because some character's ultra's can take about half the opponent's life, and you can fill your ultra meter requirements twice per match.

Ultras will still use up all of the available revenge meter, so you won't be able to use her other ultra during the FSE. That said, I think the original had both ultras reduced to 2/3 of their original damage if both are used.

What about Oni? Two Ultras mean something's gotta change or be removed.

Why? The inputs don't overlap.

U2 input contains the U1 input. It shouldn't affect too much outside of getting U1 when you want U2 if you're sloppy.

Oh. Then again, they may end up changing the input for U2. Gonna have to wait for the loketests to be sure.

and suddenly gen became the most super/ultra char in the game...

so many flashy stuff to use in the fight...

Still hate him and hope he dies on cancer

We not done yet.

Another new mechanic yet to be revealed for USFIV. I would say delay wake-up, but I have a feeling its going to be something more radical then that since Red Focus/Double Ultras were confirmed.

Game is going to feel fairly different now.

Just lose in arcade mode, and don't continue. there. Gen has died.
Also why you hate Gen?

I bet it's a hopped up X-Factor. Or an Instant Kill system. */joking*

I know I'll sound like a grumpy old man, but I hope the new mechanic is very minor. One of the things that appeals to me about SFIV is its (relative) simplicity.

I just bought sf4 arcade edition on steam when it was only 15 dollars and I was really looking forward to it. I really don't like it at all. It just feels so unbelievably slow paced, and I don't really like any of the characters. Am I missing something? I was going into this game expecting to love it and I really tried to but I always just go back to playing skullgirls.

SF4 is VERY different from Skullgirls. It's okay if you don't like it though
