i got whooped pretty badly a while back and stopped playing, but i've finally decided to come back to this game because i can't stay away forever and maybe theres a chance i wont have to get my ass beat as much anymore.

i'm not a complete beginner(like i know decent combos and basic resets, etc...), as i don't think i'd ever lose to someone who has very little to no knowledge of the game, but there are still plenty of things in this game i cant seem to grasp. and just knowing combos and simple resets can only take you so far. maybe it's less "i'm a beginner" and more "i just straight up suck".

so, ive decided to stop beating my head against the wall and ask for help. i was wondering if there's someone else who kinda feels they're on this weird intermediate-ish level and want to hook up, or if there are any experts who are willing to beat me up and give me a diagnosis.

since i do have some knowledge idk if this is the correct subforum to put this, but lets just say i'm being humble if i did misplace this. i fight plenty of random people online that make me feel like i might as well be playing this game for the first time anyway.

i live on the US east coast and own this game on ps3, ps4, and steam. i prefer the steam version, but ps4 is fine too.

You're reallllly far from me so it's hard for us to play.

Maybe posting some match footage against someone better than you could shed some light?

Try and focus way less on combos / tech / resets and just focus on playing good neutral and getting hit confirms.
I know a lot of players who understand the game and have tech/combos/resets down that are ten times more impressive and fancier than mine, but they don't practice neutral enough so it never matters.

Just try and play as many games against people better than you as you can and post some footage here once and awhile.

I can move this thread to the training diary section if you'd like, that way you could use this thread to track your progress and get personal advice?

I would think the progression would be learning combos, learning to convert into those BnB's (Hit confirming), then Tech/Resets. I feel like I am with yea AWP112. I feel like I am in the same ish level where I know I am not a beginner but I still can't compete against the normals who feel like they REALLY know how to play. Like when I QM and find a guy I say to myself "Its either they don't know as much as me and it'll be too easy or around my level Or they actually know how to play" and beat me outright in proper use of pressure using assists and reseting me to hell and back (My defense still needs a lot of work with those fast crouch to stand blocks and knowing when to I should be push block) I've been told a few times that I shouldn't even focus on practicing on defense and that I need to work more on offense stuff which seems odd to me since its hard to be offensive when you feel like every button you press gets beaten out by them (Whether it be by DP invul frames, better active frames at a better time, or me pressing bad buttons with bad start up frames or whatever). Feel free to hit me up and if I am free I am usually up for long sets (got a friend where we usually do round 50 or so matches. most being 8/40~ in his favor). Only play on Steam.

i guess moving this to the training diary section would be the best course of action then, and i'll upload some stuff when i get the chance. i'll pay close attention to my neutral from now on, but i feel like my defense is what i need to work on. we'll see. thanks for the input.

the bolded is how i feel too, i usually either get someone that i beat pretty effortlessly, or someone who i dont stand a chance against. my defense is what i feel like im lacking in the most as well, cause i just get opened up like nothing. and the neutral in this game gets so hectic at times

i'll add ya on steam next time im on, and we can play some sets if you feel up to it. thanks guys

Yea I know what you mean. I can get pretty confused with blocking when they call out assists and their main is in the air and I have to think for a second (Which is way too late at that point) to block the assist or the main. [Block low the assist if low attack assist AND if it'll hit me before main, Block the main with stand blocking if I can ALSO stand block the assist AND/OR if main hits me first]. But then after that they land and you gotta guess again on either a quick Jumping Attack or Low or Grab. Its like Im a jobber going against the Flash who thinks and reacts slower then the Flash so the calculated blocks become guess blocks. There is this thing called Absolute Guard where you Block then Push Block and then crouch (or stand if crouch blocking) during the PB animation and then go back to your original blocking position and it'll help against all attacks but I always forget about it. Then there is Push Block Cancels where you have to Push Block and NOT Block in order to cancel into a normal/special/super which since In most fighting games I play Chargers so I hold Down Back like all else. Also a big reason why I get jump in'ed easy.

You should be able to find me easily on Steam. Im pretty much good to play whenever you see me online on Steam. Only hopes are that the connections are good for me :P
