Tabletop Games Thread (And Roll20)

Yeah, voting is probably the best way to do it. Maybe do it like this:

Each person who'd like to join picks 3-5 games you're interested in. You have 10 points, give each one a rating (from 1 to 4) based on how much WANT. ie like this (also this would be my vote)

GURPS [3]
Nechronica [3]
Tokyo Nova [3]
Demon: The Descent [1]

We'll tally em all up in a week (7/31/2016) to decide the game.
(editing your vote before the deadline is fine)
(If gurps, Savage Worlds, or any other setting agnostic system gets picked, maybe have another vote for what setting to use it in)

I mentioned it in the /tg/ thread but the class Baroque may be a callback to one of my favorite games of the same name. The game features a world where humans have become twisted, warped, monsters and it's reflected in that class.
Oh, hey! Someone else who knows that game! Haven't played it, but watched a few playthroughs for the rad, gritty art direction and music.

Does everyone have a roll20 account as well?
Yah, I made one yesterday to experiment with.

Just made an account, and I'm willing to try out whatever.

Also, does anyone here know of any games that are like
Mad Max/Fist of the North Star/Trigun style scorched earth post-apocalypse style setting games?
I have a rad idea for a character that I'd wanna play in that kind of setting but the closest thing I can find is Deadlands: Hell on Earth but I don't really want the horror elements there.

I can make a Roll20 account, eyah.

I think rotating would work out really well, because we'd eventually cover everything everyone wants, what would be best though?
To my knowledge, the systems I know areeee
GURPS, Storyteller (World of Darkness), Pathfinder, D&D are their own, right?

*I considered gm'ing this once for a friend, so maybe I could try that. But I'm inexperienced enough so maybe leave it to someone like Paperbag_Sniper, at least for my first game. Wouldn't mind trying though if others are down, and I would love to think up a setting.
Just a little history for me. I started Roleplaying in high school but I've only ever been in a few games to date. My actual GM experience is basically a single game from years ago. I'm just the kind of person who stuck on the fringes of the hobby after I got introduced and I spent a fair amount of time reading and re-reading the Systems I've picked up over the years. So if it sounds like I'm some bearded wiseman it's because I've basically just been around the hobby for a while and read my share of material. This is a learning experience for me, as much as it is for anyone in this thread.

That being said one thing I wanted to do this year was get back into the hobby proper; so I'm willing to bumble my way through a first campaign.

I like the 10 point voting system and if everyone else is cool with that we can start recruiting and dropping votes.

Yeah, that was one of those games I picked up on a whim (the wii version) and wound up actually getting sucked into the experience. I know the saturn/PS1 version have the superior atmosphere but the story structure was one I hadn't seen too often before and the way it unfolded really stuck with me. The ending is still one of the most impact endings I've experience for what it does to my own understanding of playing the game.

I've been RPing online for roughly a decade, I love it a lot, but I've never RPed TTRPG.
It won't replace Online RPing, but I'm willing to do it.

I like the Voting system as well, what would the systems be and woul dwe nominate them?

Yah, I've been on the outside looking in for a while.

Always enjoyed reading the settings lore and worldbuilding, but moreso I used to have a friend who would regale me with his wacky and splendorous adventures (mentioned on first page). Always felt intimidated by the mechanical complexity, but I'm a big boy now. I can take it!

Heheh, you're actually making me want to pick the Wii version up for realsies now. Always was conflicted with wii version vs playing a translated saturn version.

Was always kinda surprised to see that game in Toys R Us way back. But I guess there's meaning in them having it.

Just vote whateva ya interested in brosky ^_^
Just as long as you follow the rules I posted ~_^

Aight
Like I said
Pathfinder
Call of Cthulhu (Basic RPG)
D&D 5E
Storyteller (World of Darkness in general)
GURPS
Nechronica
Ryuujin
And uhhh
That cute fairy/yokai RPG I suggested last page

Okay, now pick 3-5 of those, and assign 1-4 points each with 10 possible points total. See my format above :3

GURPS [4]
Pathfinder [3]
D&D 5E [2]
Nechronica [1]

I'll be basic for now but I really want some wasteland mayhem, is all

Ryuutama sounds really neat, actually
It'd be neat to try that out at some point

Yeah I kept calling it Ryuujin because I was thinking of Overwatch, it is a fun and cute looking little game, apparnelty it's like Studio Ghibli which jives w/ me

There's also a version of Golden Sky Stories where you play as Fae if you don't feel very yokai-y

Y'all though if we do end up playing Nechronica, I highly suggest we do something light hearted and cute afterwards to purge ourselves of any negativity and depression if shit goes south.

Keep in mind that a 100% happy ending is legitimately possible in that game. The developer replay included with the game ends with both player characters surviving and happy, and the implied rebirth of the planet.

But of course, that all comes down to the gm, the players...and the random number god.

can anyone confirm is Paperbag is evil

Well, he seems to have similar tastes as me. Sooooo possibly idealism veiled by a bleak facade.

But some people ya just never know...

I guess so, now I kinda wanna play Ryuutama and Golden Sky more, but I still think we should start with something combat/higher stakes first so we appreciate the dwontime more

I really want wasteland mayhem but I'm not gonna push it too hard just because I also wanna try a lot of new stuff too

I'm honestly just fascinated by Nechronica, but I can honestly legitimately see why this game has no english localization, it can very easily be seen as skeevy, what with the guro, the little girl focus, and some...other things.
I like the setting idea and legitimately batted ideas around but I think since I can't legiitmately support it, and how it might be potentially skeevy I might go for another Dark Souls-like (I saw one that was on the nose Dark Souls), or osmething else that's wasteland-y.

I'm honestly shocked this game is by the same guy who made Maid: The RPG, and Golden Sky Stories.
He allegedly made another game I can't get much details, but it's labelled as a "Demon Sex Roleplaying Game"
I think we can safely strike THAT one off the list.

demon sex rpg is just Tiefling Maker
now a demon romancing game is just Warlock Simulator

There definitely are plenty of wasteland RPs out there, and I'm sure I could find some Dark Souls-like too, I'm just not sure if they'd be as well put together as Nechronica.

Holy shit though lmao.
Is Warlock Simulator real?

So my anxious ass checked my cookies and saw I got a cookie from TLwiki while browsing this, thread, only a single cookie, prob nothing, but Google Safe Browsing said that site might not be safe? I dunno, I just think Nechronica is def off the table for me, at least at the moment.

It's probably nothing, but I don't think my anxiety will let me use that site (Plus, as I said, I'd feel weird not supporting the author)

Remember, it's only as skeevy as you let it be.

If you're worried about support, you could always just buy the untranslated PDF, and then play with the translated one. I think availability is something we should put aside for now and consider later.

Are you sure

[I also know where to find a translation of that one, heheheheh]

Let me not be late on this
GURPS [3]
Tokyo Nova [3]
Nechronica [4]

I'm interested in giving Nechronica a thorough read through now. Could be bleak, could be hopeful. If we do a simple one-shot it can go wherever the group wants it to go.

I can neither confirm nor deny that I am evil. However, going off my tastes in books and movies I can swing either way. It's a weird world where Hayao Miyazaki sits next to Clive Barker.

That site routinely goes down but I have a PDF of the game if that will ease your conscious.

can you mash ssj in tabletop skullgirls
We'd honestly be making rules up so I don't see why not. Everyone should call brass when they need it.

It's a curious title. If you're ok with a roguelike style format with the option to save a fixed amount of equipment for future playthroughs it will be right up your alley. The story unfolds in an interesting way and I did recommend this a lot although only one friend took me up on it.

Was always kinda surprised to see that game in Toys R Us way back. But I guess there's meaning in them having it.
I know this quote, I just can't remember from which character. It's been too long.

Ooh, Tokyo Nova. Maybe when I get back I'll edit my vote to put that on. Wouldn't mind that either, looks cool from some threads I've read.

Actually, the setting is kiiiinda post apoctalyptic isn't it? Takes place after a pole-shift mucked things up. Would that maybe work for Ruin's Fist Of The North Star/Mad Max concept?

Also Arch-Angel said the meaning thing when he gave you the gun that shoots baby angels.

Just booted up my copy of Baroque as well. Last save was from 2013, Wow. Never did finish the voice gallery, I have one row finished and there are some cool custom tarot card designs for the game.
Also to ease my own consciousness I started a new file and I want to say that quote comes from the archangel.

Fist of the North Star/Mad Max? I could be down for that.

A thing I liked about Necrohnica was how it was EXTREME after the end, only a few pople left, thinks could get better, but not likely
Think I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream.

I have a pal in my D&D group that's interested in doing some wasteland GURPS, so we have another for that, if it goes that-aways

That makes 3 possible gurps campaign settings.

Question: Can gurps be played with pseudo-wargame type rules? ie distance measurements allow you to turn it into a mini strategy game if enough combatants are on the field. I know Savage Worlds lets you do that (probably a bit easier there since combat is designed to be simpler and faster).

If we did Fire Emblem x SMT x Goodfellas concept that MischiefMaker gave me, that might actually be fun to play around with.

Actually, now I'm thinking Krieger Kommander/Egret Engagement in Skullgirls setting might be fun...

To my understanding the answer is yes. The second book in the core rulebook details how to use a combat map (hex grid based) and tactical combat. I would also wager that there will be official rules for things like mass combat via the official magazine Pyramid.

Ok things changed, Nechronica is back on the table, i'm still not against other wasteland RPGs.
The other month, I saw this kickstarter for a post-apocalyptic RPG called "The Maw" or something, basically the world got ate by an eldritch abomination, cities are still there but to get the good shit you gotta delve into the innards of the abomination and get out alive

The only thing I have as much of a fetish for as Sci-Fantasy is bio-tech.

I was actually writing a world building/setting document for a shmup I'll be working on in the future (after my current one is done, with the key mechanics of "reflection" and "adaption", compared to the current ones "mobility" and "destruction") with a premise of h.r giger themed bio-magi-tech.

Basically: souls generate mana, and only organic/carbon based structures can conduct and contain mana and souls properly, so organic magi-tech overtakes the world, and cities start to look like coral reef cathedrals and h.r giger abysses).

I had considered mentioning it as another option for a custom gurps/savage worlds/setting agnostic system campaign, but honestly I'm still struggling to write it up decently, and we got enough stuff on the table for now.

If interested though let me know, I could tease out some ideas and maybe even brainstorm together, and we could maybe try it out for a future campaign after this one.

Gonna give people till midnight to edit votes or let anyone else interested in joining do so.

I talked with a friend who was interested, but he said he's still a bit unsure on diving into this sort of thing and decided to wait it out for now. He said he could join mid-game if a slot is open later though.

My friend that is interested has made his intention to create "The Ultimate Shoulder Pad Warrior" known to me in the event of wasteland shenanigans

If we do GURPS, we could always just brainstorm a wasteland setting right here and now. Might be fun to all chip in ideas towards a setting together.
