The canon info thread - what we know

They are family heirloom and yes, they exist, but Alex didn't decide if Franz used Todd (death) or if it was Nancy.
 
A couple of questions about Big Band:

Did Big Band work on Squigly's murder and was his involvement and the arrests of Black Dahila's henchwomen (I'm assuming they are) he made ultimately lead to his 'retirement'? Was Big Band a fan of Squigly? Obviously he knows of her and he's a fan of jazz, but his possible involvement in Squigly's case was perhaps more personal? It might have been why he pursued an obvious gangland killing that would have very real repercussions, especially as one of the only moral cops in in the PD and the inevitable internal clashes that would bring. A strong sense of justice or not, I imagine people like him don't rise to Detective without at least having a sense of self-preservation.

Could Big Band have had his own taskforce? Like a circle of cops he knew he could trust? Like the beginnings of his own NCIS?
D-did they end having to betray them as well?

How was Big Band as a fighter before the Brass Lung or whatever it's called? As a cop, I'd imagine he would be no slouch in the physical department, but still a normal human. I sort of imagine Birdland pre-Big Band as a scrappy fighter.

How did he earn the name Big Band? Was it a name he had as a cop or did he gain it after his transformation?

Well, it's literally what he is right now, isn't it?

It's an alias he likely gained after his incident and reconstruction. You'll notice that all ASG experiments carry names reflecting their newfound appearance and abilities (Peacock, Painwheel, Ileum, Leduc, Hive).

I don't think the timeline makes sense for him to have worked on Squigly's case. As Big Band, he has fought 2 previous Skullgirls along with Ileum. That would include both Queen Nancy and Selene Contiello. Since the event that caused Squigly's death triggered the Selene Skullgirl event 14 years ago, it doesn't really make sense that Ben could have worked on that case pre-Big Band. (If there was indeed even much of a case to work on. I wonder if there would have been much of a crime scene left to investigate in the Skullgirl's wake.)

Squigly is (was?) an opera singer, not a jazz singer. :P I imagine that Big Band probably knew of the Contiello family prior to her death, but I'm not sure if he would have been a fan of her. Maybe so, maybe not.

Dunno about a "circle" of cops he could have trusted, but Irvin seemed to be one, although we don't really know what he was doing during and after Ben was attacked. Probably something that will be explored further if Irvin ever becomes playable.

-seeing as he does look sorta like to Lorenzo (maybe related)
-in the medici tower there is a protrait the kinda looks like him meaning he would be someone of importance in the group
-in filia's flashback when she meets painwheel you see a picture of both vitale and Irvin with a menacing look on their faces maybe plotting something (or maybe he's double crossing the medicis. I mean he's helping ms.fortune get minette back afterall)

The similarity between Irvin and Lorenzo's youngest son (as seen in the portrait) has been mentioned before. I'm not sure if it's intended or if it's simply a coincidence though. I do find it hard to think that one of Lorenzo Medici's son could have worked in the police force for all that time and no one had noticed.

I kinda like the idea that the son of the mob boss became a cop and no one noticed on either side. Like, the whole family is sitting around the trinitree for the holidays and work just never comes up.

(just wanted to make a note here, I do periodically consult Alex about certain things if a design brings up something I am unsure about. For example, with the Divas design we recently released, I ended up checking with him if Squigly actually had her tongue intact since it wouldn't havfe struck me as odd if the Medici's had it cut off in addition to sewing her mouth shut. Theres some upcoming stuff I know you lore enthusiasts will enjoy implicit information from.)

I really really avoid just asking random stuff like that, Alex is a very busy guy and I value the time he does take to look over stuff.

I'll still consider asking if I am talking to him about lore/world/whatever related stuff but this is not something I would just bring up to him out of the blue is all.

I was just making a post in another thread and I decided to cross-check with this thread, but it looks like a rather important lore-related confirmation that was made a while back isn't listed in the first posts, which is that the Skullgirl will regenerate eventually if she is defeated but the Skull Heart isn't destroyed or wished upon.

This was confirmed quite a while ago (during the Indiegogo campaign in fact) and I can't really confirm it directly since stream archives from back then are probably all gone, but there are collaborative accounts of this confirmation on the internet from around that time (this for example: http://dreadwhoop.tumblr.com/day/2013/03/27). I and I'm sure a few other people distinctly remember Alex confirming this since it was a pretty important piece of lore, so I'll just go ahead and add it into the first posts.

Shoutout to @Night Phyre for the lore info dump tonight. Not sure if I got everything, but here are some Notes I took:

  • Peacock has a planned first love romance with Leduc
  • Cerebella's Mom was good at crafting Living Weapons from Theonite.
  • Ms. Fortune is next to Beowulf on the SG Power Level Scale, which is pretty low.
  • Valentine's Sexual stuff is all an act, and she's chill outside of work.
  • Squiggy's Father used to have Leviathan under a cloak or outfit.
  • Adam has a crush on Parasoul
  • Brain Drain LOVES building robot versions of other people, because he always likes building better versions of people.
  • CEREBELLA X FENG DECONFIRMED.
  • Leduc, Hive, and Peacock make up the "troublemakers" of Lab 8..
  • All the story rights are "Possible". In the way that every death vs Marie kinda acts as a separate timeline. So whoever's route winning is like the 1/100000 chance in some cases.
  • The canon route needs 4 people to take her out, and she's not a powerful Skullgirl.
  • Squiggly's power to manipulate space is not her's, but Ab-baddon's. Leviathan and Squiggy can focus thier resonance to tap into his power.
  • BIG SPOILER: If SG gets far enough, maybe in SG 3, Squiggy could accidentally use her space powers to much and summon Venus to the world through a rift in Space.

Thanks for the summary! I have made one as well and will be confirming it again once the stream gets archived. Will update the first posts once I have double checked all this information.

Minor notes I caught: King Renoire may or may not be dead, depending on what's cooler. King under Schrodinger's Mountain!

Also, the "living weapons as lobotomized parasites" idea was pretty much shot out of the water. Bella's mom was just really good at crafting LW's out of Theonite.

Eliza as SG2 main villain re-confirmed.

Interesting that Double has little sentience or personality of her own. Syncs with the "Lamia" thing.

Center stage is so evil, it will eventually summon a lovecraftian nightmare. Canon.
