The canon info thread - what we know

We don't have a cultural basis on the Dragon Kingdom, while Selene is not an Asian name in our world, Western names are still used in such areas and really shouldn't be a grounds for nationality, I mean damn I have the most Rural European name and none of my family is from such areas.
Yeah same here. I still don't know what my Parents were thinking when they named me.

I think it'd be interesting if she did have dragon heritage, but perhaps it's from her father or the name didn't pass along. Given she's an opera singer I suppose the martial arts part is gone, but it would certainly add variety to the cast, then again the closest to normal are Parasoul and Valentine, the rest are pretty diverse to begin with.

Even if it's written out, it is a fun idea.

I'm not going to argue about barely supported speculation. If you want to believe it that's cool by me.

oh come now people were here to detail lore of this universe's in continuity, not argue and rubbing things in peoples faces. =3=

She does still have some kung-fu moves and the jiang shi hop. I dunno it's kinda unclear right now.

Really? Even more interesting.

Welp Ms. Continello certainly is a young woman of many mysteries.

Is Filia supposed to be a shortening of Ophelia? Was that old canon or never was canon? =P

I'm not sure if this is "lore" per-se as opposed to just something that's really cool, but I figured I'd mention it anyways.

Big Band appears to be unable to walk in a traditional manner, judging by his walk animations.

Big Band's torso (or iron lung) and legs are connected through a rotor which enables his legs to move independent of his torso. His legs also appear to have an unusually large width between each other when he is actively moving. This is due to his interesting way of walking; instead of having legs capable of putting themselves in front of the opposite leg, his rotor rotates, causing one of his legs to revolve in front of the other. When he puts his front foot down, he lifts his hind foot and his rotor starts to rotate his feet again until his hind foot is in front. In his back-walk, he rotates his legs at a steady pace to slowly glide across the floor, neither leg leaving the ground. In short, Big Band walks by rotating his legs over and over while his torso continues facing ahead. His coat covers most of these machinations, fooling most people into thinking he is walking normally.

A picture of Big Band's unusual legs. Thanks art gallery!

Some footage that shows off Big Band's new walk and back-walk. You'll have to watch carefully!

EDIT: Alex said that he can always walk normally at Salty Cupcakes. So he does all this for style.

I've only heard of that on that skullgirlsheadcanons tumblr, so I'm assuming it's neither... ?

Something I noticed on the Painwheel design document that was recently revealed on the art gallery is that the full name for the Gae Bolga is the Gae Bolga Matrix.

With my google-fu, one of the definitions for 'matrix' defines as "The formative cells or tissue of a fingernail, toenail, or tooth." Suppose it's referring to her spikes she can retract.

I've also noticed that from Peacock's design document, it looks like she has a hole in her back. I haven't found out a reason for this, but something tells me it's used as hammer space besides of her hat and sockets.

Also, it could of been caused by that giant tube in earlier concept art, assuming it's still canon.

What was the deal with that tube?

Alex confirmed that Peacock's full name is still Patricia Watson.

Tom still puts his mechanical skills to use with the Medicis, helping Black Dahlia maintain her mechanic weaponry.

The Canopy Kingdom, The Chess Kingdom, and The Gigan Nation are all close to each other, but not in contact.
The expansive No Man's Land and Rommelgrad separate the three nations. Their distance from each other is proportional to the distance between Russia, Europe, and The Middle East.

I love it when my headcanon is confirmed.

Apart from what's already just been said, Stanley is confirmed to not be able to walk backwards, Eliza originates from the SG-equivalent of Egypt and Dr Avian has a passion for jazz. Alex also said that the reason Dagonians don't look much like others despite being related is due to anime logic. :p

Will update the first post with these info!

Where do exactly get all this info? It's not on the official site. I mean, I heard that Mrs. Victoria and D. Violet are the same person. Where does all this mind fuck come from?

A lot of the info comes from Alex Ahad himself during a few livestreams on Salty Cupcakes. They're archived in their page, so you can rewatch them as you please. As for future appearances, he tends to go there once in a while.

Is there any distance between Russia and other two? O_o

There are several countries separating Russia and the Middle East, yes. As for Europe, I assume Alex is talking specifically about Western Europe since a part of Russia is practically Europe.

Hey guys!
Just wanted to give you a heads up on a very interesting opportunity:

So I ended up getting the one hour skype callperk for the Indiegogo campaign for Skullgirls, as that was the amount of money I ended up setting aside for it at the time. Though the call is largely pointless for myself since I can contact most of the team anyway, so I figured I can take a bunch of questions from the community and have Alex answer them on stream it. So if you have any questions you would want to ask Alex Ahad about Skullgirls, ask me here or tweet it to me @majiomni, or PM me on Skullheart (Maji) because theres no way I can memorize everything. I don’t know when the skype call/interview will be but I’ll update when I know.
As a note I am taking the questions in advance, questions DURING the stream (assuming I can stream it) are going to be ignored. The reason for this is so I can send the questions to Alex in advance so he can come up with answers he would be satisfied with. That and no time is wasted on questions he doesn’t want to answer.

Here is the thread:

None of the character endings are canon, although some of them do contain some “true events” from the overall story. There are plans to make a canon story eventually, but Alex Ahad has said that he needs Umbrella, Marie and Black Dahlia to be playable in order to make the first part of the canon story.

That's true. I hope this happens eventually, and in the meantime we can just speculate about how it will come out. I think it's gonna be one story mode where we are going to play with all the characters (like the last Mortal Kombat) in their own chapters, or in teams. I think they tested this with the Squigly storyline, and it was amazing.

I certainly would like it. Gives a chance to see how the girls play off eachother on a persona aspect beyond their winquotes.

I wonder if Big Band would still appear as a fighter.

I think Big Band was always intended to be playable as a major character, but I think he was originally going be in the set of characters after Umbrella, Marie and Dahlia.

Were the Medicis and the Contiellos supposed to be allies at some point?

Were the Medicis and the Contiellos supposed to be allies at some point?

In Squigly's story mode it was implied that they were. At least before the Skullheart was involved. Double states that even years of built up trust didn't stop the Medicis from killing off the Contiellos [just to get their hands on the Skullheart]

Parasites: Living talking creatures who need a host to survive, once attached to their host, both be come reliant on the other and separation will result in both dying

Synthetic Parasites: Parasites created in Labs to imitate real Parasites not said if removing them could kill a host examples Avery, Gae Bolga, Buer Drive

And Remote Parasites: Are Parasites who don't speak and from what I noticed aren't attached to a host but act in the same manner as Parasites

I'm not sure where you got the non-speaking part? The only remote parasite that is confirmed to not speak is Muse, and Alex explained that it's because she has Taliesin's hand in her mouth.

While remote parasites aren't directly attached to a host, they still seem to need a physical part of a host to be attached to them. Sagan has Annie's eye, Muse has Taliesin's hand, etc.

Edit: Okay, now that I think about it, I remember that Ravidrath did confirm that Remote Parasites need a part of the host body to function. I remembered that this was a known lore but was trying to remember who it was that confirmed it.

Here are my own definitions for the 3 known types of Parasite.

True Parasites: Sentient, intelligent creatures that need a host to survive. They apparently replace a part of the Host's body when they attach, and once attached they cannot be separated without killing the Host. The Parasite however can survive for a short time in order to find a new Host.
Examples: Samson, Leviathan, Sekhmet

Synthetic Parasites: Usually mechanical in nature, it's not quite clear if these creatures are even technically alive. Still they more or less function in the same manner as True Parasites in that they replace a part of the host and form a permanent bond. Avery is the only Synthetic Parasite shown to have any self awareness and traits that indicate that he's alive, but that may be because he is perhaps another projection of Peacock's broken mind.
Examples: Argus & Avery System, Gae Bolga & Buer Drive, Taranis Generator

Remote Parasites: Sentient, intelligent creatures that can survive independent of a Host as long as they posses a part of the Host's body. It is not confirmed what would happen if the Remote Parasite lost the Host's body part, but I would assume that it would kill it. Whether or not this would kill the Host as well is also not confirmed, but I would assume not.
Examples: Muse, Sagan

While the topic is parasites, may I butt in here to ask a question that's been puzzling me?

What, exactly, are the negatives of owning a parasite?
The obvious answer is that they require nourishment, but they seem more like a pet in that regard (Incapable of foraging on their own, need host to find sustenance). None of the parasite wielders I've seen seem to be in bad health because they have a parasite—except for Painwheel, but I'm referring more to the organic variety of parasites. Especially when compared to a real-world human parasite (Like, say, leeches), Skullgirls parasites don't seem to require much as far as food goes.
There's also the prospect that the host is "stuck" with their parasite, as it is stated removing a parasite from the host kills them (Which raises the question of why medical efforts aren't being put toward a way to surgically remove parasites, but that's an entirely different can of worms). It's a potentially scary prospect, given that a parasite can potentially manually override its host (AU-Samson). However, this doesn't seem to be a very likely thing to occur, either, as Samson appears to be an exception in the parasite world. Other users like Squigly appear to have a good relationship with their parasite—and, again, it seems less like "parasite" and more like "pet."
I will say that the fact that Samson ate Filia's memories is definitely a point against parasite-kind, but this seems to be a special case regarding him and him alone. What, then, makes owning a parasite such a bad experience that they get called "parasites?"

On an almost-completely-unrelated note...as aforementioned, parasites seem to have, or be able to obtain, the ability to override their host and assume control, like the way the alternate-universe Samson does in the DLC character list. This is pure imagination at work, but would the inverse be possible—a host gaining, then using the ability to assume control over their parasite?

I'll just make a short list of the negatives of having a Parasite.

1. No Privacy, EVER.
Think of the last person that you've spoken to, now imagine them permanently grafted onto your body. I don't care who it is you're thinking of, that is a terrible fate that introduces all sorts of complications in your life. You might get lucky and have a good relationship with your Parasite, but there will inevitably be a time where you just need to be alone, and you can't do that with a Parasite. Imagine the awkwardness of a simple trip to the bathroom. Imagine trying to have a relationship when there's another person living on your head.
This is probably the worst side effect of Parasitism

2. It's going to change your body.
Regardless of how the Parasite is connected to the Host, changes in your body are going to occur. Just look at Pre-Samson Filia, she looks pretty different doesn't she? You really have no say about what's going to happen to you upon attachment. I don't know about you, but I don't want a dragon speared through my brain or my skin replaced with an intestinal tract.

3. A Parasite is a person.
You might be lucky and get someone polite like Leviathan, but what happens if you get someone like Samson? Parasites aren't pets, they're people with their own wants and needs. When you're the Host, the subjugated member of the relationship, you are at the mercy of the Parasite and it's whim. It's implied that any Parasite can take over as the main body, putting the Host in a coma like state. I would assume Parasites normally don't do this because it's such a horrible thing to do, but it's still scary to think that you're never really free.
As for your second question I would say that they couldn't because the very definition of a Host is that they get the short end of the stick in their relationship with a Parasite.

This is just my personal input, but I would absolutely hate to have a Parasite.

I imagine it's like being married, except that the parasite is with you 100% of the time, and the balance of power is completely in their favor. I can tell you sure as shit that I wouldn't get married if that kind of bond was mandatory. It's all lovey-dovey until you're sick of the fact that your parasite keeps demanding fresh blood.

This is just my personal input, but I would absolutely hate to have a Parasite.

Living weapons 4 lyfe.

Living weapons 4 lyfe.
If anything it's Living Weapons that are more like pets. They're sentient, but they're by no means intelligent and they're useless without their owner. Vice Versa is kind of dog like when you think about it.

I was actually going to make a point about what the difference between synthetic parasites and living weapons was (Because they seem very similar to me), but I decided not to bring it up as it wasn't something I really wanted to have answered unlike the other two (The former out of curiosity, the latter because I wanted to make a point out of it in a fanfiction I'm attempting to write that may or may not ever see the light of day).
I, too, would probably favor a living weapon over a parasite, but that's mostly because I like living weapons. I could go on more with this, but I think I'll stop here before I derail the topic.
