The Chainsaw Incident - Another fighting game being crowdfunded

It needs to show a playable demo... if the system actually WORKS somehow, they prove their value.

Still, it chould benefit of getting funding from a chinese investor. they kinda like f2p games.

Worst case scenario, they could convert these gorgeous sprites into a beat'em up game with multiple stages, enemies and then the card systemwouldn't be so bad

wait? it is a free too play game?

Two people with an adversarial attitude, poor spelling and sentence structure, and random capitalization calling me "Mikey" within a few days when nobody has done that before ever? My money points to you being the same person. Professing opposite opinions, no less.
What are these shenanigans

Apparently funding one is the whole point on the Kickstarter.

Looks pretty good but the gas clutch is confusing.is it gonna be like that blue bar from ssf4 or...

Not the way I really like to support things. Project eternity and wasteland promised me a full game and I'm sure they'll deliver it. I can't back something that I'm not sure the success on kickstarter will grant me the product in the end.

actually, mk9 was a pile of shit and nrs couldn't make a decent fighter to save their own lives

hey hey mk9 isn't that bad, it's the second best MK game, right under UMK3. If it didn't have breaker or 3d model based hitboxes it might actually be pretty good.

On-Topic: Chainsaw Incident looks like ass and I'm very glad that they aren't getting crowdfunded. They have no idea what they're doing, and I'm not even sure why their tag like "From the minds who brought you Virtua Fighter, Tekken, and Soul Calibur" would even matter when they're making a 2D fighting game. Maybe they should consider making a 3D fighting game since they're allegedly experienced in that.... if it wasn't that the only person on their team that worked on those games is fucking Masahiro Onoguchi, who's the Technical director/3D director, which has nothing to do with the gameplay at all. That's not minds, that's singular mind. This is borderline false advertising.

Whoever's the game designer needs to git gud.

I honestly think this is a scam, all they need is Big Ban, ugh, the characters look awful imo looks like something that was inspired by dark stalkers and was chewed up and spit out

Yeah It looks bad and I hate the character designs. I will have some people backlash on me for this ( I think), but in my opinion League of Legends has one of the worst character designs ever. Like few of them fit the fantasy setting at all! Now, if this game gets funded enough, I will say that this game has one of the worst character designs

Deleted a bunch of off topic posts. Play nice.

On the note of them doing this to develop a demo, not a full game. This does rub me the wrong way because of how quietly they've mentioned that they're doing this to make a pitch they can show studios.

Were they more up front about this (and had more reasonable stretch goals... and more reasonable tiers... and a better pitch video... and less stupid 'Mechanics' posts... and didn't require Facebook group signups for discussion...), I'd be far more likely to support them, because I'd know it was going towards helping them make an unfinished product. As it stands I know my money is going towards an unfinished product, but the devs think it won't be.

It's also generally dishonest. If they're going to use subterfuge on the entire principal point of the campaign it makes me lost trust in everything else they're proposing.

In their defense (I can't believe I just typed those words in that order in this thread), regarding the idea of betting cards with movesets and such, the devs are saying that you can bet "duplicate" cards, which I'm forgiving enough to interpret as meaning you can't bet a card you only have one copy of, so no losing your favorite moves for a character because you lost a match.

In the exact opposite of their defense, one of the characters is a Limp Bizkit reference, which downgrades my personal score to F----- Stop Reminding Me Limp Bizkit Exists. That brings them so far into negative points that I'm now increasing my opinions of other fighting games just because they're in the same genre. Heck, it increased my score for Half Genie Hero just because both games were Kickstarted, and Half Genie isn't even out yet!

I'm glad I don't even have money to give to these people. Quietly waits for Mane 6... It's a little weird how suddenly the game turns into a demo rather than a full game, but isn't an alpha and beta a demo already? You know, short for DEMONSTRATION? I mean look at all the rewards they're giving out as if it were a full game. An arcade cabinet? That's a little expensive for a demo reward. I guess they changed their plans, but they should have thought about this game a little bit more thoroughly before making a KS out of it. I honestly hope they get their shit together. I don't want an insurgence of bad fighting games in the future, after all.

Heck no, alpha/beta only speaks for a game's dev progress. That's why lots of KS projects put alpha access behind a large paywall, so people who think that alpha=demo don't back $5, get the alpha thinking it's a demo, and then get mad when it's rightfully buggy and unfinished.

I remember back in the day when "beta" didn't mean "demo", but it seems like a lot of devs are using the one to mean the other. This has become the kind of thing I find a form of dark enjoyment in disliking, I almost don't May 30 to come.

But on the other hand, I can't get over those flippin' chainsaw brass knuckles. Whiskey tango foxtrot, devs?

Yo, chainsaw brass knuckles are fucking awesome. It's a shame they're wasted on such a poorly-planned game.
Yeah, I meant to say this earlier actually. Complaining about chainsaw brass knuckles is all kinds of bonkers.

My only complaint about the chainsaws is that some characters have the same variety of chainsaws.

I think when a character design is that intentionally ridiculous, people who complain about how stupid it is are sort of missing the point. Besides, how are chainsaw brass knuckles any crazier than a guy wearing a tank on his arm? :P

But yeah you're right, there's a ton of characters whose weapons are just normal bladed weapons with chainsaw teeth on them. There's so much more potential there!

I remember when people were complaining that Skullgirls only had girls that fight with things on their heads (back when only Filia and Bella were revealed). I guess the same would go with this and chainsaws. :P

Except that Skullgirls was initially stated to be titled related to the plot, not the characters, whereas the plot of Chainsaw is that a chainsaw infection is taking over...

Yep, surprisingly it turned out people weren't very good at reading.

There's definitely some duds in there, but I like the aesthetics.
I don't think anyone has complained about the art aside from how difficult it is to separate the characters from the backgrounds in some places:

Pretty much all the compaints are aimed at dodgy game mechanics and their dodgy KS campaign.

I for one don't have a problem with the lighting effects, I think it would be a really cool change of pace. Plus its seems likeit would be pretty easy to tell the difference between the 2d models and the 3d backgrounds. not that it matters tho.

If by "cool change of pace" you mean "can't tell the difference between characters in mirror matches", then yes. Fighting game characters are made to stand out from the background and each other for a good reason.

I didn't realize the ridiculousness was intentional, I thought they wanted everyone to think their characters were unironically cool. Intentionally ridiculous only works if it's actually funny, and slapping chainsaws on everything doesn't amuse me, so that's still not workin' out. Both coolness and ridiculousness are subjective, though.

As for Panzerfaust, he gets away with a tank for a hand because of sheer MANLINESS!
Also, since "Panzerfaust" literally translates as "Tank Fist," his name is an exquisite bilingual pun. But mostly MANLINESS!

It's sort of both. They're meant to be cool, but in a Warhammer 40k "Let's be as hilariously metal as we possibly can" sort of way.

I think that sort of stuff is rad, but hey, different strokes!

SG characters have a reason for their design, These characters look like they were made to be edgy as possible

I'd also say the art style looks incoherent as if the artwork (and even some designs) are by assorted artists.
And to mention some of Alex Ahad's own wisdom, the cast completely fails the "silhouette test". That said, it wouldn't surprise me if all those hunchback brutes end up being clones.

To say something about the game mock demo proper, as many pointed out, it's difficult to tell the fighters apart from the stage, the HUD is horribly confusing and I think the hits have absolutely no impact behind them, it's difficult to tell if the moves are connecting or being blocked. Also, rounds seem to end very quickly and with very minimal hits; which is not a bad thing when you look at classics like Samurai Spirits and Soulcalibur but those games have both a more deliberate pace as well as impact behind the traded blows.

No ill will towards the creators but if this is what they have to offer, I'm glad the gaming community (and especially the fighting game community) have finally realized they're not under the obligation to fund everything.

I don't mind some of the designs, but you look at the whole cast and their overall silhouette is basically a bunch of blobs with assorted spikeys poking out.

I honestly think its a team full of artists and they are wanting to hire a designer, possibly even programmer? I don't know how this is gonna go, to be honest.

My problem with that is that they seem to have slipped into the idea of not so much being metal as striving to convince everyone they're metal, which always seems to coincide with a slip towards black iron and spikey things, and to my thinking, there's more to metal than that. When I think of metal and video games, my mind immediately jumps to Brutal Legend, with its chrome pipes growing out of the ground, panthers that shoot lasers from their eyes, and six-legged mastodons with brushed-steel tusks. That game was the fever dream of a half-mad artist who passed out listening to Dragonforce.
By contrast, Chainsaw Incident is just, well, black iron and spikey bits. There's no feeling to it, it's just intended to be as "hard core" and "edgy" as possible. It's like Drowning Pool, just a bunch of guys being unreasonably cruel to their instruments while one or two of them scream semi-rhythmically. Instead of wild-eyed rocking out there's just a general sense of emptiness attempting to be hostility, but people call it metal anyway.
And with all these chainsaw-based weapons, I haven't yet seen a chainsaw axe, although maybe I've overlooked it. I've never seen a chainsaw axe anywhere, so having a character with one of those might make me consider dropping a - of my current F----- score for Chainsaw Incident.

Off topic, but here ya go. Straight from the MGR Bladewolf dlc. It's even got jet boosters!

For my own two cents on this kerfuffle of a Kickstarter, it sounds to me like the devs are simultaneously taking things way too fast, overestimating their own capabilities, and failing to see how anything they're doing could backfire. It's a shame this project will probably only head south, cause the art at least has flair going for it. After finding out the "trailers" are all proof-of-concept, it's pretty easy to see. They don't flow at all like a fighting game should, and look more like a cg trailer promo than actual gameplay.

Warhammer 40k was mentioned above.
Rule of thumb with 40k design: If it's got an edge, you can put a chainsaw on it: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Chainaxe

That chainsaw axe is a thing of beauty. I am not disappoint. And to be honest, I have to wonder if these guys working on Chainsaw Incident even really care. I mean, they don't seem interested in actually having a combat system to talk about, which is kind of a big issue for a fighting game, y'know? Instead it's just mockups and pretend gameplay footage, which I suspect may be worse than no gameplay footage.

Warhammer 40k was mentioned above.

I was once interested in 40k, for all of like a day. It's way too grimdark for me, and too many of those spikey bits I've been grumbling about. Still, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that chainsaw axes are a thing they did.

I used to play 40k a while back.

It's to the point where they try so hard that it looks like satire but satires so hard it looks like they really mean it. It's the Super Saiyan 2 of grimdark.

Look, even if they had a good money design, funding design, development design, whatever.

Having almost every character use a chainsaw is boring. Having weapons in a game is practically useless is everyone has the exact same weapon.
