It sucks Jade died, I liked her.

Zombie Liu Kang maybe!
About the other dead characters, they are under Quan Chi's control. I think one of the quests will be to defeat Quan Chi and free those souls.

I see. That would make tons of sense, actually.

So does that mean I'll get my Darius? Fujin? Kai?

I'm hype.

You're right. Netherrealm now has the chance to do a great storyline without useless characters.
I think that's the wrong way to look at it. Rather, Netherrealm now has the chance to make these characters more important.

Personally, I like Kira and Movado and am indifferent to Kobra and Jarek. Still, with Kano around there's a fair bit of story potential there.

Also, there is no way Jarek is the worst character because Hsu Hao. I'm really hoping he shows up in the background of some scene, dies horrifically, and that's it.

I agree. Now I respect Nightwolf lol he was great.

You're right. They can improve most of those characters of DA/Deception/Armageddon who didn't have a clear purpose.

You know, looking back on my Nitara comment, a lot of characters in DA had interesting concepts that were simply resolved WAY too quick.
Frost being a traitor/lusting for power? Way more interesting than Tanya.
Then she got put on a bus.
Drahmin being a reincarnated Japanese Warlord?
Interesting, but then he vanished.

can we just have Ermac freaking out when he learns Kitana is dead?

that would make an awesome scene.

Yes. Thanks for adding me. I was going to add you once I got home in a couple of hours today.

Yo so like who do you guys think will be top tier, mid, and low. IMO in the most likely confirmed characters there's:
Top tier: Sonya(again), JC(again), Tanya, Shinnok

Mid tier: quan chi(again), Mileena(again), Skarlet, Kenshi

Low tier: Kano(again), ashrah, Bo Rai Cho

Did I miss anyone?

You missed putting Kenshi in top tier, yo.

I forgot about Hsu Hao, that's how forgettable some of these characters are.

To be honest, I'm looking forward to how NRS will handle the roster in MK10. The roster of the 3D games are pretty much shit, but that's exactly why I want to see how they get handled in this new game, especially for some of the worst offenders like Jarek, Taven, Hsu Hao, and Shujinko. More than that, though, I'm interested to see just how nuts they're willing to take the story, seeing that the last segment of MK9 blasted open the door of opportunities.

Personally, I'm hoping that Quan Chi still seeks out to revive Onaga's army to overthrow Shinnok, but since Shang Tsung is currently nestled in the bosom of the husk that is Sindel, he instead sends out the Broth uses the souls that form Ermac as the supply.

Pretty much this.
They can also make the story of those games also salvagable as well.
I would not mind at all if they just threw Shujinko out entirely though.

Bring back as many as the old MK 9 characters as you can (also make Liu Kang a bad guy while you're at it), and rework some of the shittiest MK4-8 characters.

I mean they could even make Blaze not-shit if they tried.
He's a neat concept, they just didn't need to roid him out.

Its officialy official now :)

"24 star Kiefer Sutherland has been working on his role as Snake in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V for over a year, but apparently that’s not the only video game he’s been involved with recently.

“I did Mortal Kombat, and that’s such a huge game, but it’s not like [Metal Gear Solid 5],” Sutherland told IGN in an interview. Sutherland did not say what his role is in the game.

Developer NetherRealm’s last fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, was released in 2013. Its last Mortal Kombat game was the series reboot released in 2011. The game Sutherland said he worked on might be the one producer of the Mortal Kombat Legacy web series Lance Sloane hinted at during San Diego Comic Con 2013. Sloane said he was working out the best time to launch a new Mortal Kombat movie, and wanted to "sync" it with the release of a new, currently unannounced game."

Reiko's another thing they could make neat.
I mean his obsession with Shao Kahn could be made into a neat Inferiority Complex thing that could be exploited for good or evil

It could, but it also begs the question of who would follow Reiko? Sure, he's a general of Kahn's army, but so are Baraka, Goro, and formerly Motaro. Quan Chi, Noob, and Shinnok have the Brotherhoood, and while the Lin Kuei swore their alliance to Kahn, I doubt that that they care about him dying.

Ermac and Skarlet, while loyal to Kahn, are assumed to be under Quan Chi's control, and I suppose that Ermac (along with all the souls of the heroes who died) could be used for Onaga's undead army.

I suppose Reptile, now leaderless (and probably still unaware of Khameleon) would follow Reiko, assuming he's not wasting away in Outworld, where Nitara shows up and kicks off the whole Onaga thing.

Of course, all of this implies that the Shao Kahn that died is the real one and not the clone he created to take his place after getting his shit pushed in back in MK3.

If they port MK10 to PC they better not fuck it up like they did with MK9. I'm still heated that I paid for a game that'll never get patched or updated.

Yeah, that's another thing.
Shao Kahn punched his death ticket.
We'll have to see what happens.
iF Reiko does become leader, chances are he'd probably try to be as good as Shao Kahn and constantly fail at it.
Again, his sort of fascination or obsession can make for something interesting instead of just a little joke.

But that little joke is all that Reiko has.

Seriously, who the fuck cares about Reiko outside of the helmet thing? He's an uninteresting Noob Saibot concept. Hell, At least Havik has a neat gimmick.

What does Reiko have? A girl's name. That's it.

I mean, that's kinda why I want to see how he gets handled. NRS made me like Styker, so there's something to be said about the kast.

I think Reiko can try to overthrow Mileena eventually. She was suggested as the leader when they thought that Shao Kahn was dead.
Maybe he could fail at trying to kill Mileena, I think she has more support from the troops and other generals.

Remember those two brothers from Armageddon? I don't.

Taven and Generic Bald Bad Guy?
Not really.
I think we can safely remove them from MK's storyline.
Same with Shujinko
Oh yes, let us rid ourselves of Shujinko. What was his purpose anyway? I think he died at the end of Deception anyway.

He was just there to be a player avatar for a tacked-on adventure mode.
Hey guys you remember when Midway wanted a New Mortal Kombat Game EVERY YEAR?!
AND IT DIED WITH ARMAGEDDON?
I'm so glad NRR got their freedom and it shows what they can do when they're not bound

Thank goodness it died.

So guys, while I watched/read about some of the post-MK4 games, as a PC-only player I never got to play anything between MK4 and MK9.

And I see a lot of love for Havik from the Chaos Realm in this thread. I'm intrigued. Care to tell me what's so fun about him and what's his gimmick?

He eats your arms in Deception. That's why I love him so much. That and he's a badass.

From what I have been told by competitive mk players:
Go Rai Cho, Rekio, and Tanya are definitely in there along with Havik.

I bought MK9 too late and now the community is dead.

Havik is fun because he's just so weird and fucked up.
He looks like a corpse (almost like Pious Augustus' long lost brother), and he does all this chaotic stuff.
He snaps his neck and snaps it back into place to heal himself, spins his entire upper body like a top for an attack, and he's just erratic in general.
Plus, when he's about to fall to his death, he blurts out "MAN THIS IS GONNA SUCK!"
