I've been playing Skullgirls for about 10 months now, and even though I do get slightly better each week, I still feel like I've hit a wall in terms of growth. I've been lurking all this time because I'm pretty shy, but I think it's high time I get active on Skullheart and seek help. I'm somewhat decent, but I recognize that I have problems in terms of consistency, defending, and the variety of resets I can actually pull off. I run Fortune/Fukua/Squigly, but I have absolutely no team synergy. I use the assists to hopefully get a random hit in or use as headless pressure, but I'm looking for more effective methods of using them, for combo extension and reset potential, for instance. I used to run Fortune/Parasoul, but I completely neglected her, and might use her in the future. Double is a character I'm highly interested in, but I'm not sure when is the best time to learn her since I want more consistency with my current team.

I'm still trying to figure out a way to optimize my BnB with Fortune with my current assists. I run L. Shadow and C.HP. I recently toyed around with the H. Shadow assist and have been noticing that it catches my opponents more often than L. Shadow, which is great. I'm trying to incorporate H.Shadow for Fortune resets, but am still experimenting to see what works. I run H.Fiber as a pressure tool for zoning when I have Fukua, and it's helped create distance for Squigly to build up charges, if only briefly. Fortune is my strongest character, though I can hold my own when she's gone.

Consistency is my greatest flaw. When I manage to get a random hit confirm in, I sometimes get surprised and fail to follow up on it, even though the opponent is RIGHT where I want them to begin a combo. I need to pay more attention in the neutral game and be prepared to continue to combo. More often than not, this leads to me dropping a combo and getting reset to death. TTwTT I have been getting better at this with Fortune, but I definitely need more practice with my other teammates.

As for resets, I only know a few. Even worse, I have a habit of using the same resets about twice in a row, and smart opponents see through this and punish me for it. Whenever I intentionally try to do different resets during a combo (crossover, then air grab reset, for instance), I sometimes stumble the inputs, overthinking what resets I should attempt, and end up dropping the combo altogether. Worse, I sometimes get outjabbed and combo'd into oblivion. I HAVE to nail my resets each time. In terms of Fortune resets, I know cross-overs, cross-unders, and air grab resets. I need to work on my headless reset game. I used to be somewhat decent with headless fortune and completely useless with head-on Fortune, but the tables seem to have turned. I definitely need headless practice, including mastering combos to remove the head so I don't have to rely on a heavy knockdown or something. For Fukua, I only know 1 overhead/grab reset. Yikes. As for Squigly, I know a grab reset, a low, and a high. They all are from the same point in the combo, so a smart opponent always double jumps or techs out if it. I need to seek more videos on Fukua/ Squigly reset tech to mix things up.

Goals:

1.) Follow up on Hit Confirms 100%. Seems simple enough, right? TwT

2.) Learn Burst Baits.
Need to learn how to trigger them when I want to and who they work against. I still cannot do this. I can trigger IPS, but I can't seem to be able to use the right move in order for me to get up to the opponent and punish them.

3.) Learn to PBGC.
Honestly, I can't do this whenever I want to. I have to learn when the precise timing works and the best moves to do so. I've seen the Youtube video of it, but I must apply myself. I have to also learn the best moves (or jump) to PBGC into to optimize my chances of escaping and turning the match around.

4.) Master resets.
I need to learn more resets and seamlessly incorporate them into combos by alternating between them randomly. I have identified certain spots to reset with Fortune, but I have NO idea on the areas for opportunity for Fukua, Squigly, or Parasoul. I just memorized 1 spot and...that's it.

5.) Actually learn BnBs.
I know BnBs for Fortune but...as for Fukua and Squigly? Heh....I kinda guess. TwT I just go with the flow of the battle. No more of this in the future.

6.) Spend more time in Training Mode. I NEED to get rid of the temptation to lurk in lobbies/ quick matches all the time. Training mode is crucial, but I get so excited to try out what I learn that I recklessly go online to learn something I only got down 3 times, and get disappointed. I must ameliorate this.

7.) Block better. Sometimes I can smell a cross-under from a mile away, especially from Double, but I still get bopped by overheads at times.

There's a LOT for me to learn, but I know I can definitely do this! ^w^

I'd say fukua and squigly have some pretty good synergy with fortune if you find the things that make it work. Dolfinh uses chp assist with fortune to make all of his resets much more obnoxious and I think Natezer uses m shadow assist in his combos for setups and resets. I think you could be able to incorporate things from both players into your team if you want to.

Drag n Bite is a pretty good squigly assist for headless fortune, as it hits the head and kinda increases the hits/pressure. DnB is generally used for pressure or making things safe but as fortune I dunno if you should generally be doing a lot of unsafe things, at least since you can make a lot of stuff safe if you're headless.

my general advice for learning to pbgc is practicing against diamond dynamo, since its easy and can be kinda useful, and cerecopter since its a lockdown assist that is useful to pbgc. Otherwise I'd suggest turning on the super duper advanced data in training mode, the one that puts a stick layout on your hud, which tracks buttons for ips. This is useful for pbgc cause the button tracker flashes green when a pbgc could happen which I guess just means it flashes when the pb animation ends. Also if you're having a hard time with pbgc remember that you can mash.

RESIST THE URGE TO HANG IN LOBBIES [emoji14]

I've been spending most of my time in the training room with my notebook going over new stuff. It's taken hours, but I'm fixing my timing issues while learning more efficient/effective combos. That's leading to a waterfall effect of overall improvement.

Um...that's all the advice I can give...you're awesome in the game and I can't hold a candle to your gameplay.

Also, I see youre punny

Thanks! Seems like I'm on the right track to learning assists to optimize Fortune's potential. I'll try practicing PBGC against Bella. I haven't noticed the green light feature for PBGC: I'll look at that. ^.^

The temptation is real... TwT Thank you!

You should learn to IAD more especially things like IAD j.hp and IAD j.lk->L axe kick. Try them in your pressure especially when you got the enemy to block Squigly's cr.hp.

Squigly- Go for more throws. Especially if you got them to block divekick and you think you are plus instead of going for a low string.

Parasoul-Use command normals in your pressure strings/ resets. f.lp. f.mp, b.hk, cr.hk to some extent are all very powerful. Again when you got the enemy to block Squigly's cr.hp. Go for more throws. Learn some easy resets and maybe an easier BnB? You kind of drop it all the time. Work on your approach. It's kind of obvious when it becomes dash twice into j.lp or j.hp.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I'm trying to IAD HP more to integrate it for resets and working on pulling them off. I haven't touched Squigs at all in Training lately, and I need to work on air throw conversions, now that I think about it. I'm moderately comfortably with converting from throws with her, minus air throws. I'll try grabbing more often with her and see how it works. I recently switched to Parasoul and haven't practiced as much as I wanted, and as a result I'm not used to her command normals. I'll kick it up a notch this week. ^w^

Trying to learn Parasoul, but not sure where to start. TTwT I know basics, but there is so much to cover.

Oh man, a wild Sunset has appeared!

That's a pretty good list of goals right there. I've been playing for practically one year (and a couple months, give or take), so I definitely understand the time it takes to "git gud." Most of the time, when I've played you, your Fortune was pretty spot on. Though, I've noticed that you fudge your buttons a lot, which leads to my Double punishing very quickly, and I think to myself: "Ouch. Well... That was definitely in her favor and now begins the Double vortex."

Surely second @Fizzxwizz's suggestion for PBGC. That's what I would do (and actually do) to practice my PBGCs with Fukua, Double, and Beo. Not always against Bella, but usually against a set-up that's caught me by surprise at least more than once. Strong defense usually leads to an even stronger offense!

As for assists, at least in terms of the synergy between Fukua and Fortune, I've found that M and L Fireball are pretty nice for the keep away. L Shadow and M Shadow are the most reliable when called at the right times (catch your opponent with the sweep, and potentially anti-air/combo-filler/reset) H Fireball is... iffy. The most it can do is anti-air; H Shadow can be used but... it's also iffy. The start-up is ridiculous for the potential overhead (and actual anti-air as well), and it would likely lead to Fukua being punished very hard because of her on-screen time. It's just very situational and not something that I would personally recommend using.

Where consistency is concerned, that's just spending time in the Lab and grinding out the combos. Do it until you can do it right ten times. If you can, then do it another ten times, and then another ten times.

I can surely help with Fukua if you want to setup some matches (Most of my tech is self-taught and based off of matches I've seen during the length of time that I've been playing). Same with @joshb911 with his Fukua and Parasoul. He's good peoples with good life lessons.

I think you've been progressing well though. It may seem like a wall right now, but with every match, you learn something new about a character that can be done. You're always learning about yourself and about the characters you play and don't play, even though it doesn't seem like it ;)

okay, everything said above was a-okay except for the bit about josh's parasoul.
if you want help against/with parasoul, please consult someone or watch gameplay of others like @Cadenza, @fenster, or @keninblack.

My parasoul is ass why would you ask me for matchup advice on that? I literally play her just to know what she loses to. My Fukua is also not good. I'm bad at this game! A.F.K.

Parasoul is (or at least seems to be, I haven't run the numbers) one of the more popular characters in high level play so you shouldn't have any shortage of people to reference. In fact I would say that you could seperate players to watch based on how you want to play the character. ATM i would say liam/skarmand and fenster are the best "overall" players to watch regarding parasoul fundamentals. Fenster has historically been a solo player, only (relatively) recently starting to play a trio so his fundamentals with the character are VERY strong, and Liam is arguably the best parasoul player right now. Liam also plays a more zoning parasoul than the other people I've seen. Kenin is excellent of course, an OG parasoul since vanilla, but he's been a bit out of the spotlight recently. Cadenza is one of the best players I've seen at using tear pressure to keep your opponent locked down, and wingzero has very scary parasoul mixups. There are obviously a ton of really solid parasoul players I didn't mention (shademoneh and lethalmind spring to mind, i'm sure there are WC people too but I'm east coast so I don't know other regions as well) so you should have no shortage of people to watch/talk to.

Made a guide thats 2/3's of the way done. Not really a shameless plug considering its one if not the only condensed resource to learn the character in a up to date manner. I'm slowly going to try to finish it.. Let me know if you have any questions and myself, or many other Parasoul's can try to help.

It is wild how back in 2012-13 and even kinda 2014 it was just Me/Sev/Pali for the first year/Sage when he played her/Jailhouse on and off.

Now oh man we have so many.

I love how this exploded as soon as I mentioned Parasoul. XD So much help! Thanks, I got some matches to look up. And thanks for the article, keninblack, I perused through some of it and I think I can get a lot out of it. ^.^ I aim to improve my Parasoul play this week.

I feel like I'm stuck at this wall..Not sure how to progress with my team. I currently roll with Parasoul/Squigly/Fortune, but I'm still struggling to play at least decently with them. I'm also scurred because I have zero offline experience, I still suck with my fightstick despite practicing with it, and CB is right around the corner...maybe I shouldn't go...pls halp. TTwTT

You did make the switch from controller to fightstick recently. Some of problem could be you are trying to get back to where you were before. But if you are concerned about you team, you could switch one out for another character (with different strengths) and run with that. This is probably marginal advice coming from me, but I know that sometimes any advice can help

Should be running

Fortune/Squigly/Parasoul
using H fiber/c.hp/L shot.

that's just me though. You should record footage for us to view and we could help more intensively about your progress halt.

I dont know how to record and upload matches, but my friend uploaded over an hour of matches between us from three days ago. I know that I drop a LOT of combos because I'm still fumbling with my fightstick. I have confidence in Parasalt and Squigly to a certain extent, but for some reason, I just can't use Fortune at all. I'm still working on consistencies, but I need help on improving my neutral and knowing when to bring the opponent to me and when I should go at them.

I can try to help you some with your Squigly if you'd like! At least with updating your bnbs, confirms, and resets! I think I have you on steam, but if not feel free to add me and we can play!

Eep, I've barely had time to practice and CB is around the corner...*ded* I've been working on this reset option for Squigly since I want to use H. Shot with Parasoul as an assist, but I cannot seem to get it to work on lights or heavies...May someone please help?

If you're looking for a crossover after the first air chain, you can do super jump j/lp or j.lk. Or you can get a crossover by just using j.lp or j.lk right after your launcher. I don't really know anything with the assist, but these are similar.

Hmm, I haven't heard of the super jump crossover...I'll look into that, thank you. ^^

Hmm, I've been wanting to try out a new character. I'm not really feeling Fortune/Parasoul/Squigly, or at least, I haven't found a way for them all to work well with each other. I've been thinking about implementing either Eliza or Robo and have put some work into Eliza. I feel like I have stagnated quite a bit. I have an autopilot Parasoul and Squigly, and am trying to stop doing certain things (can't think of specifics) upon reaction that make me predictable. Any tips on how to stop autopiloting?

Choose one thing before you start playing and focus on doing (or not doing) that. Doesn't matter if you win or lose, just focus on that one thing when it is applicable (e.g. using cr.MPx2 instead of cr.MK in blockstrings as Eliza). You should soon see that you start to do whatever you focused on naturally without thinking about it.

take out fortune and play

para/squigly/eliza

using either L shot/ Dnb/ Osiris
or
L shot/ c.hp/ Horus dive

as for the autopiloting. its just going to take you becoming more active and observant of yourself and learning to try other things instead of "what automatically makes sense to you"

Is it better to use L Shot or H shot for squigly? In general I like L shot but I dunno if there's specific things for squigly with the assist.

Been a while since I posted here. I've tried experimenting with Robo since I've always wanted a cat team. Fortune/Robo/Eliza with H.Fiber/H.Beam/Butcher's Blade is a pretty fun team that can put in some work. Butcher's Blade helps Robo convert off throws with 1/4 meter instead of 1, which is great. Although I've been using Parasoul for over a year with her, I still don't feel that confident using her. I think I should run anchor Fortune for now while I work on Parasoul, Robo, and Eliza since the latter two characters are still new to me and I need to work on the former character's neutral and pressure game.

I'm having a lot of fun and success with Fortune/Robo/Eliza. My Eliza is okay, but she definitely needs more work. I've been eyeing Painwheel for a bit, and am starting to learn her. Valley girl PW is something I've lacked in my life. I have no idea where to start. I'm working on her Trials to get a general feel of her combos, but I dont know a strong BnB to do with her. Flight canceling is pretty fun, though I need to work on it.
