Okay I just watched the first episode of Akiba ranger and It's absolutely hilarious from all the referencing and taking tropes from super sentai literally, the group appearing in random locations for when fights starts especially the gravel pit, my favourite moment was when they tried doing the introduction to the enemy and when they they finally got the pose right, an explosion happens behind them which they have reactions to. It's glorious.

Akiba Red is my spirit animal.

he's everyone's spirit animal.

He is probably the spirit animal of Toku fans.

just a question, how would all the riders fair up against all the sentai, or just make up a team of the riders and see how they would be against some of the sentai groups.

if its one on one, then its in the Rider's favor.

if it's standard teams vs a single rider, then I'd say its about even.

there actually is a couple movies called super hero taisen where Riders and Sentai fight each other.

First one is ok up until DiEnd loses his marbles and tries to wipe out the earth. Second one is fun, and the third one is the Primary Showa Riders Vs. the Primary Heisei Riders that the Sentai are tertiary to the main plot.

Doesn't stop them from combining Gabutyra of Kyoryuger with ToQ-Oh and the DenLiner to create Kyoryu ToQ-Oh feat. DenLiner (with Momotaros apparently grumpy he was stuck piloting the Denbird in the left foot instead of a fused control center up in the head.)

I cannot wait for Kamen Rider Taisen to get subbed.

Seeing Fujioka-sama retake his role as the original Kamen Rider just fills me with so much joy!

Does anybody know these guys?

Its a Tokusatsu series called "Juukou B-Fighter" from Bandai's "Metal Hero Series". It was later retooled into the hilariously bad amercian series "Big Bad Beetleborgs".

I've never seen this show, what made me think about it was that yesterday Bandai announced that they would release the leader of the B-Fighters, Takuya Kai aka Blue Beet, as a FiguArt. The black dude seems to be the antagonist of the show for what I can tell.

I saw it out of accident because I was looking at the scans of the also announced FiguArt of Kamen Rider Gaim Kiwami Arms. And then it struck me: "I know this blue beetle-dude, I have seen him somewhere before!". And I was correct. After I knew where to search, I stormed into my attic and after some searching through my old toys I found this:

I actually own a figure of this series! I can remember it well because my parents gifted me this figure on my very first day of school. I most likely saw "Big Bad Beetleborgs" at the time and my parents saw him on some shelf and bought him for me.

And now that I'm really into Tokusatsu, I can't think of a better time to watch the original series, Juukou B-Fighter! Please tell me someone subbed this and link me a playlist, you will earn my eternal gratitude. And a cookie. A delicious cookie.

I remember Beetleborgs!

I loved the show when I was a kid. now its good cheesy fun.

So here's at least the first episode for everyone interested:

...

No thanks, I'm staying with the B-Fighters.

aw, c'mon. ouo if it werent for the americanized shows you might not have had much interest in the Japanese originals.

and the openings didn't really affect the show itself. it was still cheesy but I still liked it as a kid. plus it was better than a certain power rangers series that was airing at the time.

Oh god! keep it away!

Just watched the first episode of Garo, pretty awesome for a start. His theme is fucking glorious:

"WHERE THERE IS LIGHT, SHADOWS LURK AND FEAR REIGNS. YET, BY THE BLADE OF KNIGHTS, MANKIND, WAS GIVEN HOPE."

y'know, after the most recent episode of Gaim, it rekindled my idea of something.

what if there was a toku show that was in more of a "monsters kill humans" thing like in Garo, but instead of super heroes that save the day, they focus more on a group of monsters that refuse to kill people and instead fight the monster who do. and they have to also fight a group of people who make their own super powered beings program, so its like what normally would be seen as good guys are actually antagonists and we get this grey area of heroes.

They did that. It's called Kamen Rider 555/Faiz

yes, there's that. but I mean have it follow more of the gray, and then you get the black and white sides who are trying to do their own thing, and the gray area characters are just doing what they think is right, and they're monsters but they still live day to day as humans, but then theres 2 powerful sides that eventually want to kill them.

555 also had a lot of problems with delivery.

I am having now fully started my long journey through the world of Super Sentai and have gone over half way through Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, I really like the development the character get as the series as the series goes along the way and the villains do have good designs, also cool giant robot battles.

Not trying to say one is better than the other but I do feel quite the difference between Kamen rider and Super Sentai.

So have you reached the Shinkenger side of the Shinkenger/Decade crossover yet?

so, considering Garo is still kind of a fresh babby of the toku world, I think it's awesome that it's getting it's own anime adaptaion.

from the studio that's been working on Space Dandy.

because when I think of badasses fighting horrible nightmare creatures, just, Space Dandy is the only thing that comes to mind.

I started watching "Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger" and I like it. That surprises me actually, since I never really enjoyed Power Rangers after I grew up, and after digging deeper into Toku I watched some episodes of ToQger and didn’t enjoy it as well so I thought all Sentai was meh for me. Tried out Kyoryuger though because of the dinosaur-theme and I quite like it so far. Don't know if i watch the entire show, but an episode here and there doesn’t hurt.

if you want to try some of the best 90s sentai, I'd recommend Jetman, Kakuranger, and Dairanger.

Jetman especially.

also, if you like the Dino Sentais, check out Abaranger.

Thanks, I might come back to this, but at the moment I'm not feeling like going too deep into Sentai-stuff :)

The DX Cryner is now mine, and I managed to get it with the extra parts even without having gotten the chromed ToQ-Oh.

Only the Henshin, little dissapointing compared to ToQger's but it works for it.

actually, their henshin is really nice. it announces everyone's names working as a roll call.

and I gotta ask

WHAT'S GOOD NINGER?! WHAT'S REAL GOOD?!

so, I saw the preview for the Ninninger upgrade design (aka the battlizer)
CJQwyOeUcAAU1e9.jpg

HOT DAMN!

Armored Ninja looks pretty good.

Anything on the successor of Drive?

all we got is the name and a really blurry picture that shows he MAYBE purple.

also, there's a demo out for the toy version of the newest Ultraman's transformation device.
it won't be long now until we get our urban youth Ultraman with his beats by Dre.

I'm trying to get into a lot of toku stuff, but am currently watching the heck out of Kamen Rider's various series. Den-O is probably my favorite, and Gaim impressed me a lot.

Does anyone here watch Drive? How do you guys like it so far?

I stopped watching once Mach came on the scene, but I heard it gets better at the halfway point.

if you want some really good toku stuff, there's Choujin Sentai Jetman, Kuuga and Agito (Kamen Rider), OOO, Garo if you want a more adult themed toku series.

whaddya in the mood for?

OOO was really good, I liked it. I think once I'm done with Den-O and Fourze I'm going to take the Kuuga road, because everyone seems to like it. Is Jetman a good sentai series to start with? I've always wanted to get into those, too, ever since Kamen Rider came into my life.

many consider Jetman the pinacle of 90s Sentai.
a good team, great monster designs, great mechs, a great story.
to me, it's Keita Amemiya's best series.
and that is the man that made Garo.

but be forewarned, Jetman will make you cry at the end.

Pulling this thread out for some American Tokusatsu news...
