Them's Fightin' Herds

Am I the only one feeling kind of disappointed?
I understand the disappointment in the lack of single player content and tutorials, but FiM was designed from the start to be a competitive fighter for those already familiar with fighters, and especially true in the case of TE.

TE however was only finished by one guy, as opposed to the team that was working on the original game, and thus the content he focused on was the most important to the game which was finishing the characters and balancing out the game, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash were just finished within last month, no time to implement a full story mode and I dunno his connections with the original VAs or even if they're interested in doing work for a project that it is canned.

There are training mode options though, which you can find in the versus mode.

Oh hey, I don't think anyone's posted the reindeer yet.

Could you kick ass with the power of Christmas in the old game? Nope! That alone makes all this worth it.

So, we have reindeer, alpaca and cow so far...
Does that mean this game will be about ungulates?

After giving TE some time, things feel pretty decent. Granted, the hitboxes on some of the moves are pretty wonky (Rarity's especially), but overall it's something I can sit down and play, and my controller works great for it so heyyyyyyyy

(My characters from most to least preferred: Applejack, Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Fluttershy)

So I just gave Tribute Edition a whirl, and I'm having a lot of fun with it so far. I cleared story mode with Rarity and did some training with the others, but not Twilight and Pinkie yet.

Sure as a fighting game it's pretty bare-bones, and I have a couple of gripes about its interface, but hey, this is a lot for free. I'm impressed, and it makes me more excited to see how Z engine-powered ungulate edition's gonna turn out.

It's really funny how all I hear about Applejack is that she's low tier, and yet I proceed to smash on everyone with her.

Kids these days just don't know about their fighters.

That is a strange observation from those people, as back in the old Fighting is Magic tournament, from back before the C&D, all of the later matches were either Applejack Mirror Matches, RD Mirror Matches, or Applejack vs RD matches which actually made a lot of sense from a canon perspective, oddly enough. Applejack was generally considered one of the top tier characters then, so she would have had to be heavily nerfed to be low tier.

They most likely call her low tier because it's totally hilarious and not old to call her a background pony and worst pony and all these other super original statements.

Again, kids these days just don't know.

I finally managed to take a game off someone while using Fluttershy. When you corner your opponent with the bear and learn how to control a crossed up ferret, man...

I really hope people come out with Fluttershy tech soon. She has so much potential.

People seem to love saying that Fluttershy is low tier, but that's only because we never saw anything of her as compared to the other characters.

I mean, a pet character with a full screen super, a massively damaging counter, and a slowdown level 3? Someone's going to figure out something amazing with her, and she's just going to jump up the tier list.

and then Twilight/Applejack will be considered low tier and it's going to make me sad

I'm all for it if they get something going. I like the concepts that they've put up and don't mind helping if I can. It's good that a simple fan game has evolved into what it is now and since it's their own creation they can spread their wings a little more. :3

Twilight will never be considered low tier.

Also:

(Shout outs to ChefMKT and A. Li for the Twilight tech, and Fosh for the impractical Rarity combo)

This guy in the game chat was explaining how Applejack is the worst character in the game, and his argument equated to, "I don't know how to get out of RD's corner pressure, so instead of adapting to it, I'm just going to drop her altogether."

It was literally the stupidest thing I've ever read, and it gave me an inkling of a feeling as to how Mike feels.

Being involved with Skullgirls has helped me see the extreme BS that fighting games go through both production-wise and fan-wise. Best way to understand something is to at least be around it often enough (though unless we actually were working on a game we'll never understand 100%) and all the Gypsy Curse Hell that Skullgirls has been through is a clear example that complete nonsense comes from all angles and not as black and white as "this game sucks" or "not enough characters".

Yay! Hellpockets uploaded a video of online casuals!

Right now, I can only perform little combos at most, yet I still enjoy the game.

How do you get the tribute edition?

Since I am too lazy to look this up, is this the iwannabrawl build or mane6?

Oh cool, does this work with a fightstick? It doesn't seem to work for me.
I don't know. I got a Logitech pad to work on it, so I would assume you could use a stick. Check if turning on the joystick setting in the options tab works.

Ok I will try that, the game seems to be fairly buggy at the moment, but I think that is just me. *update* I have my buttons working, but not the stick. Great, any ideas?

You have to get either XPadder, Joy2key or Motioninjoy to get the directional input of the fightstick working.

Also, uncheck the joystick checkbox. It's known to lag inputs in the game.

Thank you for clearing up that issue.

I "obtained" xpadder, how do I use it for FiM?

Is it just me, or do the controls in this game make little to no sense? I can't find what buttons do what.

A - Light attack.
B - Medium attack.
C - Heavy attack.
D - "Magic", it's basically Injustice traits
E - No use
F - Debug button, refills meter to lvl 3 but only if Debug button's unlocked (through the training menu)

* I actually am not sure if it's E or F, it's one of the two...

Refer to this thread for tutorials and stuff.

Oh, and in not-C&D-Ressurrected news:

Lauren Faust is asking for crowdfunding ideas for the Ungulate game. The Skullgirls people here should be intimately familiar with this sort of thing. I think.

So apparently, rushdown Fluttershy is a thing!

I'm sorry, I'm too mesmerized by the Applejack tech. Excuse me, I need to go into the lab now.

The brain is a peculiar machine.

I haven't played too much TE, but I've modded my Skullgirls with music from Fighting is Magic a while ago.

Now I'm watching erkicman's video and keep wondering "Why is it playing the Skullgirls soundtrack?"

I think I've created my own biased reason to help crowdfund Mane6, and that's just because they're using the Z-Engine. I feel really bored waiting for their IGG to begin but when it does, I'll be there with $5 in hand.
