Under Night In-Birth

Squire, mind if I add you on psn? I kept bumping into a Seth in ranked yesterday. Super fun, and Seth is scary as hell. Multiple times would I take him down to almost-dead only to lose all of my life once he got on a roll.

Agreed though, my biggest weakness is shielding and it seems as if there are some MU that are greatly benefited by shielding.

Sure, I'll add you next time I get online.

It might be helpful to compile a list of high-level players to observe for each character.

Off the top of my head I can think of:

Rion for Hyde/Seth
2gb/Note/SonicFox for Carmine
Fusemaster/Orion for Waldstein
Judge for Yuzu

I'm sure someone more familiar with the JP scene could list more.

If you're just looking for general High-Level gameplay footage, the Over The World tournament from January has a ton of the best JP players. It's a good 4-5 hours of footage as I recall.
@wauhti from Finland plays a good Hilda.

Hilda should have won :(
Watch Finnish and Swedish UNIEL tournaments. Hilda players (Wauhti, SilentW/Reimonaru/Sajlent/Other nicknames) are the ones who usually win those tournies. Wauhti also won a UK UNIEL tournament (Sakura Fight Festa).

If you wanna see experienced Hildas, Japs are usally the way to go. Great awareness of shielding and mixing up their blockstrings to keep people scared. Also watch Yung Art ugh ha ugh ha

In not serious news, UNIEL has it's April Fools joke out. It's fantastic.

do arcades still not have Byakuya and Nanase?

No Arcade updates so far. Even Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax got an update with Akira and Selvaria.

Completely hearsay but on another forum someone mentioned that the game under-performed in JP arcades.

Well if performed well enough to get a home console port with updates and new characters, so I'd say 'under-performed' may not be entirely accurate. It also apparently performed well enough for them to get said console port localized which sadly isn't often the case with games like UNIB. Yeah we've been getting a lot more recently, but I think that's cause they're getting more popular :D

The update/port may have been planned from the beginning though. Would need more information.

Well based on console sales [at least in Japan] it certainly didn't do too hot on launch and apparently the arcade was at least ranked below the usual arc sys fighters. It honestly depends how much budget the game was vs how much they accumulated as a product to accurately gauge how successful the game was.

French Bread has said that they feel like their game did "alright" in the arcades. It's tough for anime games that arnt made by Arc Sys or from well recognized franchises like DFC to do well in arcade.

I really want to play this game, but I don't have a PS3. Hoping for a Steam release.

It's a stretch, but I scoffed at the possibility of a localization earlier so who knows, ;)

I really do wish JP developers would embrace the PC market, especially the more niche ones. I think the availability would really benefit them.

Bought UNIEL on the PSN sale yesterday, as someone who considers himself pretty good at SG and enjoys filia, is seth the guy to pick up? He looks pretty fun but again I've had the game for less than 24 hours and have actually got around to playing it for about 1 hour so I don't even have a first impression of every character yet.

^^^ Seth and Linne are probably closest to the "pixie" archetype of the cast. From what I can tell, Seth has weaker normals/spacing than Linne but has utility from his fire ball set ups.

I just went through training mode with all characters checking out specials and normals and shit.

Ran through arcade with Yuzu.

How the hell do I play?

If you need a quick run down of systems (grd etc.) or character strategies, there's some help here

http://wiki.mizuumi.net/w/Under_Night_In-Birth

There's also some official guides for individual characters on Youtube. Just search Under Night In Birth [INSERT CHARACTER NAME HERE] guide

For Yuzu stuff look at the recent "Over the World" tournament. There were some strong yuzu players there.

If you can find the NorCal Dogfight archives there is a good yuzu player named judge, although I don't know how frequently he is put on stream.

What is Chaos doing there?

Oh, it is a still of veil off, I think

I think Chaos is doing the new Veil Off mechanic as listed on the page. You can get a mid-combo VO by spending 100 meter + vorpal.

Fun fact: Phonon was actually a scrapped character named Chemeti at one point.
latest

Phonon translation from dustloop (Her fighting style sounds pretty neat).
"I awakened into this powers a manga protagonist might have. It would be such a waste not to use them in a cool way."

STORY:
Admiring the abilities and wanting to freely use her own ability, she leaves a strictly disciplined student vigilante group, "EFG".
This sensitive girl is common in these days. She has grown bored of her peaceful life as a student and kept searching for her "true self" for a long time.

She keeps thinking that her powers as a "Fake Born" was what finding her true self meant. She walks under the night thinking that her powers should be used on other people. But people rumor that within the people who wander under the night, there's someone who takes a form of your "false self" from the time before you awakened as your "true self"...

FIGHTING STYLE:
Phonon fights with a whip in her hand. Whip attacks have a lot of reach: she can overwhelm the opponent from far away or drag the opponent close to her and then beat them. There are many sadistic way to get offensive...

Also, a flexible whip has excellent ways to react to opponent's moves. She has a lot of potential to intercept the opponent's moves.
Whip can freely change form whether you're on offensive or not. If you imagine how Eltnum does her Etherite Air move, there's a lot to look forward from this character.

Since this with ArcSys, you can probably bet another game coming in for the consoles of this version/

Looks like all of that talk about no balance changes was wrong.

I'm really glad to see it. This game was damn near perfectly balanced for most MUs give or take a a few at the top and a few at the bottom.

When´s Filia?

Totally love the upcoming balance patch, just wish this gonna be a DLC for us (?) not a another retail game.

Did they change the UI? Anyway interested to see what the new character/s and new balance brings. Glad the game apparently sold enough to continue with development.

That would make them less money.
And since everyone who sees it and is a fan says "GONNA BUY IT" why would they settle for that? :^)

Yeah, with very few exceptions, the FG genre is the most money grubbing, charge for everything genre I have ever been a fan of. And I come from a MOBA background.

In other non-new UNIEL news, for anyone looking for more videos of matches/good players, this site has a pretty good list of youtube videos for different characters. It also has a lot of higher level players in there (Notes for Carmine and Grove for Akatsuki for example).

Thats a reality *sigh*

I like that new stage with the tables.

Hopefully they answered the cries of Chaos and Akatsuki players.
