Under Night In-Birth

Oh sweet. I might have to splurge a bit with my money, but I think it'll be worth it :D

Lol balance, hilda has an 8-2 matchup with nanase and 7.5 - 2.5 with akataski
lol this guy

Anyway, the balance of this game is very well done! the only two characters who are lacking are Akatsuki and Chaos, but they still have tools to win. The system mechanics themselves make things fairly balanced.

Yeah, it looks kind of uphill from the videos I've seen, but maybe doable? I'm really impressed with the patience of the Akatsuki player when they play it well. It is the kind of match-up that looks like it would make you a better player just having to deal with it all of the time.

I've been playing Vasatani or however it's spell. Her style is far different from what I'm comfortable with. Long hold frames (50 frames according to the training mode), mixed with the need for some sort of setup make her damage overall feel low. She's fun as heck, though. A lot of characters like her I never feel comfortable with. I'm having to train myself to hold directions while comboing so I can get her great dive kick/uppercut.

The game feels hella amazing. It's, like, perfection as I've played it. Combos aren't all that long, but damage is real and the game shows you the impacts, it's great! I think I found a new fighting favorite of mine :D

I feel you, Vatista is really fun to play. I'm not good with playstyles such as hers, but I'm willing to put the effort in to rock with her.

It's taking me awhile to learn when to do what. I tend to, out of habit, spam her s.B and l.B without comboing them effectively. I'm having the most trouble learning the timings for her air combos. I do the same combo, but sometimes it connects or sometimes it falls through. It's probably a timing thing, but after one day of practice, it isn't too bad.

It took forever to realize you can do A+B in the air to have her do a double jump and float. This is really usefull for setting up her mines or going into her great EX Dive Kick. Just continue holding B to set a mine, get a mine under it, and then chain into it to knock the opponent soaring! The damage output from doing that is subpar and it really isn't worth it, but oh god is it satisfying :D

I love her normals, too. Great range, multi hits, they all chain into each other, and they're very fluid and flexible :D

If you are committing to Vatista, get ready for a grind.

She is really good and really fun to play, but the execution requirement and hitconfirming skills required are quite high.

I tried to get gud with her, but in the end the slightly simpler but still fun as all hell Carmine just rolled with me better.

EDIT: I'm not sure what games you've played before, but Vatista is more on par with the more difficult characters of Guilty Gear than any character in SG for example. She is far from simple for sure.

Aside from heavy training time are there any things I should avoid doing as Vatista?

Yeah, she kinda feels like Mu and Venom...but quite different of course.

Don't forget the gems, they are INCREDIBLE.

You can get high damage into oki if you confirm correctly with them and your pressure is endless if you learn it.

I can't exactly remember the blockstring I used but it was something along the lines of

2[A] 2C > confirm combo or 5C > confirm combo or ]A[

I always forget about those gems, I just never put em out. I should now, though, thanks!

I put the gems up, but I often get hit before I can make use of them. her C normal is quite effective for triggering the mines. You have to be careful, though, cause with the mines, you can put them into a state where they just fall and you don't get a full oki. I don't know the full specifics of it yet, as I've only had it for a day, however.

So I'm digging this game's aesthetic. It all comes together to give me a Ridge Racer feel that makes me super nostalgic for my original Playstation.

I think the best thing to trigger them with is 2B, if they get hit by the explosion just do a simple jump loop then divekick > gem oki

I meant C. I had a moment of stupidity.
The divekick and uppercut are the moves I have the most trouble throwing out consistently. I use A+B to set me up in the air, otherwise I usualy mistime it DX I need more practice...

Her A+B is good for frame traps on the ground and not much else, I think. You can end damage combos with them, if going for the kill and cancel into super divekick.

I've mostly been using it to help with my timing, since I'm not used to her charge timings yet for the divekick and such. I plan on phasing out it's use when I get better.

She has weird charge times, every move is different

Gems are 60 I remember that, but the others are like 48-54 or soemthing

I assumed an even 50 for them, as I hit for just about that amount each time. I've also built up a bad habit of using her B+C move to buy myself a few more seconds before doing an EX move, just to make sure I have the frames. I need to get more accurate with my timings!

Anyone want to get a lobby going tomorrow night? I'm super new (15 matches online), but I'll play anyone and have zero issue getting bodied if it comes to that.

Also, some advice:

Merkava... how? I don't know what's safe and unsafe, but everything seemed safe. I was dealing adequately with huge blockstrings, but I felt like I was half in an infinite because anytime I tried to touch a button in what looked like gaps, I'd get hit.

Hyde... does he make everything safe with his fireball? I had a hard time punishing any blockstring, and it felt like the same problem as above only much less oppressive.

This is all match-up inexperience and a lack of meaningful lab time which I hope to get soon, but I figured I'd ask while the matches are fresh in my mind.

when and which version? I'd be happy to get destroyed as my totally nub Vatista. I play the PS3 version. PC can't quite handle it without noticable slowdown >_>

@agent13
Chaos

@North888
Version? PC? I play it on the ps3. I'm free later like 8 or 9 MST (I have a stupid work function to attend), so it would likely be for the night owls.

If you're looking for some frame data to find out what's safe or not, you could check out the dustloop wiki on uniel, which also gives some basic stuff on the characters as well. http://www.dustloop.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

Edit: it links to the mizuumi wiki, dustloop just sends you there. Shoutouts to chexguy for actually reading

PC? that´s doesn´t exist, a hacked port version? tought.

I'll be on tonight with my newbie Seth so feel free to send an invite. I can host a lobby later if you guys want and we can hang out in there similar to Blaise's beginner lobbies.

I heard it was on the PC at some point. Apparently I'm an idiot. But then again, everyone knows that.

I'd join, but I have other stuff late tonight.

@Spencer I can't really give you help as Chaos specifcally, but the main thing to know about fighting Merk is to be patient. While he is annoying every mixup he does is reactable. Blocking in this game is not a disadvantage, since if you are shielding you get GRD and whoever controls the GRD controls the match.
As for Hyde, main way to mess up his blockstrings is to push him away with shield.

@Spencer
Learn your 6C spacing it's your only good move.
6C cancel into the roll thing,
Into... Oh god it's been forever but is it.....
5C 5C JB JC J2C 2B (5C Again?) 236A xx more lizard stuff? (214C works here I think?)
Either way 6C has great range and you get full combos off it if you cancel into the roll and learn the link.
Also Merks 2A is good so do short hop assault thing into J2C for your fast overhead counter hit starter.
Learn when to cancel your block strings into 22B/C and know when to attack or let Azhi go first, if he makes a mistake Azhi knock up from 22B/C is also a good start which goes into something like
22B/C.. Wait, JB JC J2C 2B 5C JB JC J2C (2B again?) (Lizard Enders somehow)
Also if you catch Merk full screen with an Azhi swipe when he's trying to stretchy arm, you can do really sick corner combos from full screen with lizard alone:
236a 623a 236b 623b 214C(/A for meter less)
Also don't be afraid to use 22C for instant safer summon of Azhi if he gets hit out. It's hard to find time to summon Azhi again in that Mu.
