UPDATE - Peter "Ravidrath" Bartholow gave further details about Eliza's progress over on NeoGaf, including a look at her animated standing idle pose, which you can see below. He also gave an explanation of why we're seeing Eliza so early despite Big Band's unfinished state:
We've been doing pre-production on Eliza for a couple of weeks now.
We do the really important stuff in-house, like the walks and idles. For everything else we just do the keyframes, and then use our contractors to finalize the animation and clean-up.
All of Big Band's pre-production stuff is complete, and is being finished up by contractors now, and put into the game by Mike and Earl. So the internal art team has moved on to Eliza.
He went on to say that he wouldn't expect her to be finished until April, so try to stay focused on Big Band for the moment!

ORIGINAL -Mariel "Kinucakes" Cartwright, the lead animator on Skullgirls, just posted an unexpected first look at Eliza, the third DLC character in Skullgirls, over on her Twitter account. Big Band is still very incomplete, so don't expect Eliza for many months. It's interesting to see that work has already begun in part on the next character though!

[prebreak]Keep reading for Eliza's first in game art and animation along with a breakdown of Eliza's planned gameplay style.[/prebreak]Eliza's potential play style was revealed during the IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign as being fairly unique. She will probably have two main mechanics: blood control and stances.

Firstly, her voluptuous appearance actually hides a vampiric parasite called Sekhmet. This parasite lets her control her own blood, so every time she gets hit, large spatters will fall on the stage. She can then use these blood splashes to attack the opponent. MikeZ gave a brief look at how this might work in a quick tech demo.

Her second mechanic is that since she is actually two characters - Eliza the diva and Sekhmet the skeletal parasite - she will be able to switch between them as stances. As Eliza she's extremely slow and powerful, but as Sekhmet she's much faster. Exactly how this stance mechanic will work has not been clarified, but A.B.A. from Guilty Gear is listed in her inspirations. Alex Ahad posted a few images of what this transformation might look like on his Tumblr.

Kinucakes' original twitter message simply read "Hmm...?"
Ravidrath later posted this mostly complete animation.

The first very rough draft of Eliza's blood control mechanic.

Now this...THIS is newsworthy!

I am ready, Oujo-sama - FOR BLISS EVERLASTING!

Oh yeah, I forgot you were the milder-equivalent to DDB in regards to Eliza.

This could mean Eliza has a great deal more animating needed than Big Band did, hence starting on her during Big Band development.

Don't know if my forbearance is being praised or if my devotion is being questioned. :3

Probably even more than Squigly if they are sticking to the dual stance system. If I have interpreted their words correctly, each stance also has a drastically different appearance: Eliza w/ scythe and Sekmeht. And on top of that, there's the blood splatter mechanic.
All things point to her being the most elaborate looking character in the cast.

In any case, I just noticed the cloud in the silver lining that first caught my attention - console patches. I have ushered the arrival of glorious Oujo-sama and yet am fated to await the longest. Truly, I am a martyr of modern times. orz

Any word on how the transformation will actually work? Based on what little art and info surrounding Eliza there is I'm expecting something similar to A.B.A.

I hope its just a special move input.

OMGOSH Eliza
Adventure_Time_Finn's_Face-_Nooooo!

this was pretty much my reaction.

Blood mechanics, Egyptian theme, Elizabeth Taylor, 2 stances are actually 2 completely separate characters, singer=greatest Skullgirls character ever, maybe greatest character ever

Will give her a try, but will probably drop her a day later lol. Expanding the limited roster is always a good thing though.

Oh why spoil it so early? Now I'm going to be even more deprived to pay this character :3

I voted (and helped pay) for her so I'm def gonna get my moneys worth even if I dont main her. I mean squigly is cool and I played her decently, but we didnt click. Big Band however....huehuehue. Hopefully I click with Eliza and the other characters that aren't Annie ;_;
Robo-Fortune is cool though.

She's just looking amazing already....I kinda want her to have that attack jedah does with multiple jabs with all the blood if they give her that I will use no matter what.

Lunerstep I just imagined Eliza trying to do Demitri's special moves with the clunky mike stand. (DEMON CRADLE!*Swings mike stand*)

If Eliza had something similar to Jedah's HPs, I would be so happy. I hope the form changing is quick and can be done during pressure/combos. Obviously it's only words, but Eliza seems to have just about everything I like in a fighting game character, being able to poke with long normals and transform into a faster more pressurific form and continue the pressure would fit me perfectly.

I'm actually seeing her stance working more like ABA's Moroha mode rather than Gen's "free" stance switching. The problem I have always seen with that kind of design is that most players just learn and stick with a single stance anyway so the whole stance thing seems like a waste.

Because usually the stance changes are slow/unsafe. A Moroha thing would be ok, as long as it was only a level 1 super. Hope it would last a while too haha. At least you wouldn't be instant killed upon being swept in SG.

I still don't think she's going to be 2 characters in 1. No way there's enough memory.

I was thinking Sekhmet mode might end up being a power-up super to keep things from getting overly complicated. Transforming stance-changing trap character just seems like it might be a little much, especially seeing how difficult it's been to make BB work within the necessary limitations, and all he's got going on is just being big.

A.B.A Clone please :DDDDDDD

that idle animation looks great.

Hah, you said titties.

Nefertiti reduction surgeries are perfectly safe and have helped improve many women's qualities of life.
Seriously, why do you think Val and Bella are hunched over like that all the time? They're going to have crippling back problems when they get older.

And Eliza's older than all of them! Think how she must feel!

Except Big Band is just....big. His problems more to do with his actual size than the amount of frames. Look at Cerebella. She has an ISH ton of frames(the most in the game) and had no problems. Adding someone else her size except with potentially more frames shouldnt pose much of a problem so long as her total size in memory is less than BB....at least in theory

She likely doesn't feel anything. Isn't Sekmeht her "skeleton"? Eliza outsourced that back pain to her parasite.
Our Oujo-sama is so resourceful! *sparkle*

Well, Ben does have a lot of elaborate transformations and apparatuses coming out of nowhere. Admittedly, I know nothing of these things but that could be a factor. Per instances, someone like Hubrecht would likely be totally "straight-forward" and not cause any of those issues.

Maybe, though I still worry that it would result in Eliza being two characters with limited tools if they had to keep what would be the memory equivalent of two characters together loaded at once if it's just a matter of frames of animation, or alternately requiring too much of a delay in her transformations in order to hide the necessary load times to switch back and forth, which might cause a Zelda/Sheik problem where people play one or the other but not both. There seems like there's a lot involved that would be really tricky to make work in a single character, so hopefully if they do have to cut some corners, I hope they'll cut the right ones.

Haven't been let down by L0 yet, though, so I'm sure they'll do her right.

It is about the frames, BB's moves aren't really transformations in the way people mean. What they are saying is Eliza would for example, need two sets of standing, crouching and jumping normals, which would be a lot of frames.
