Valentine Tech Thread: Small/Big Tips & Strategy YOU Notice?

I have a video of this already posted.I prefer to use Kara cancel into shuriken using the assist button since punch specials override kicks. Also Kara it into lk bypass for solo mix up.

It's universal except for BB
So I made this

If you autocorrect, the j.lk doesn't hit as it should.
Also, it's hitstun is short, so even if you catch before restand, they might already be invulnerable. Timing is harder and damage is lower.

We already have a universal midscreen assist kill.

c.hp j.mp j.hp s.lp

There is a video of it in the midscreen assist kill thread.

Also the hitstun doesn't matter on assists as long as they aren't grounded, that j.lk can uncombo and it will still work as long as you hit them before they land.

Weird.
I wasn't hitting them even before they landed on the lab.
Anyway, 2~3 hits of j.mp like in my video?

Didn't see the midscreen assist kill thread.

Just found out you can use c.lk to duck under Parasoul's napalm shots, and with good timing you can also use bypass. Or if you're REALLY good, just hit down when it's close to c.lk range(?), and it'll just fly right over your head.

idk what to think about this

Has anyone noticed that Val's vials dont work consistently during combos in the new update? Cause for the life of me I can't get the vial duck combo to work anymore because the vial is not coming out although its loaded up.

You have to hold down a punch button (was it 7f?) after you do the motion to get the vial now :V

Oh dear there goes all my muscle memory for that combo. Looks like its back to the lab. Thanks Chex for the heads up

Yeah, I didn't like it too.
I'd rather have vial come out on tap and shuriken come out when holding for 7f.

That would be great if they could do that. Is there any one that can suggest that to Mike Z for the next patch?

I don't think it's much of a deal. I mean, it's not hard to hold a button half a second more. I don't mind adapting.

If you didn't like it you should have said something about it when the change was in beta. It's unlikely to be changed at this point.

it doesn't ruin combos entirely. Yeah sometimes i forget to hold it when i do vial combos, but that is only because I didn't go to the lab. Other than that nothing has changed.

I did'nt realize that the beta was used for character specific changes. I just got the game so I'm a little new to all the community driven stuff. I'll have to remember to check it for stuff like that

The "hold button down to throw vial" change isn't all that bad. It's just something you have to take a small bit of time to learn to hold the button down. It's not like your whole bnb has to change.

Besides, now it opens up a new neutral game and new combo routes for Val:

I still agree with Colossi and think that you should hold it for 7f for the shuruken instead of the vial but thats just personal preference. Or maybe adding an option to switch between one or the other would be pretty cool.

I don't mind, really. Maybe it's better to avoid accidental vials been thrown out on neutral.

btw Fedora what is the damage of that combo?

somewhere a lil more than 9k. Don't really remember. Though with LnL assist + dhc I could hit over 10k, so the practicality for blowing 2 meters for that damage is meh.

idk what to think about this

This looks pretty suspicious as is.

Then again i said the same thing about IPS trigger into raw tag, and holy shit did some IPS > Raw Tag happen at Evo. Maybe there's a way to dress it up a little better?

Pretty sure there is. This one can be done with lvl 1 vial, tho. Other ways would probably need other levels of vial, I think.

This. Holding for Vial is better design wise because it's the move with the greater use/application and/but requires set up, you want to "store" the vial until you're prepared to use a Flew Shot. Meanwhile you can use infinite Dead Crosses for her neutral/zoning game.

Seriously people, holding the button for 7 frames shouldn't affect your Vial combos with Valentine at all.

OK, I've been doing more tests with this reset option:
  • No version works on Parasoul
  • The lights version works on Big Band. The heavies works too, but it's harder to cross him up.
    • Sometimes you DO cross him up, but the hit is on the same side.
  • Double is kinda... weird

this is kinda old (?)

I have a love/hate relation with her

Unlike my other safejumps I uploaded which required manual timing and were shit, this is far more autopilot and just works.

Dropping these off

If you have Sekhmet's Butcher's Blade assist, you can convert any ground hit into an orange vial setup.

whatever into st.HKx2 (call sekhmet on second hit) xx orange vial, dash c.lk c.mk s.hp xx orange vial

it leaves you at the perfect distance to either adc j.hp for a cross up, or j.mp to not. or you can dash up and do a low, or throw, or do a frame trap with c.lp etc.

I dunno how good this is but i was looking for something interesting to do with butcher's blade since it scales your combos super hard, but with this vial setup you don't have to worry about it since this is technically a reset. It's also really, really easy.

Also random butcher's blade hits can be turned into vial loads. Unless you're like point blank i don't THINK you can do any orange setups without a vial already loaded off of random butcher's blades in neutral.

That reminds me of my not necessarily comprehensive list of (usable) assists that allow mid-combo midscreen vial load and continuing the combo afterwards. Usually done off a s.HP hit, slower assists you have to call before cancelling into vial load, faster assists should be called in the same motion as the vial load. The timing on some is tight so it might not work if you stack vial loads.

Filia: cr.MK (HK Hairball also works, but only in the beta as you can only hit with TK HK Bypass)
Squigly: cr.HP, Drag'n'Bite (use dash cr.LK to convert. tight)
Painwheel: cr.MP
Eliza: Butcher's Blade (as stated above), HK Osiris Spiral
Big Band: Beat Extend (any, can also call LK Extend off cr.HP which is necessary to preserve OTG on heavier chars)

Basically, works with most lockdown assists that stay in place. In the corner it works with wayyyyyy more assists, so do experiment with your team.
