Video Game Characters You HATE

Note: this an opinion of someone 24 hours into Okami. I know that it is a loooooong game, and I have not had what happens past this point spoiled to me as of yet, so this is an opinion that can be swayed. Events in the game have already made me hate this character less, but I still hate him:

Susano.jpg
I personally do not like the trope of the "Know Nothing Know It All" when the character it applies to is reaches a certain level of arrogance, incompetence, selfishness, or simple annoyance.

Susano hit all four levels.

I understand that the intent is for the character to be comic relief, and I can see how he can be funny to others, but I could not help but get increasingly frustrated at how arrogant he was, how unbelievably useless he was in every given scenario, how often he smugly took all the credit for all of the times I helped him out, and how he SLASHED AMMY WITH HIS SWORD AND TOLD HER TO GET LOST!

The sad thing is that the very same game has a character that falls under the same trope, but I still like a lot: Issun. Issun is arrogant and not as skilled as he thinks he is, but he acts serious when he needs to, cares about others, and actually helps the player.

Mega Man X. He's such an overrated crybaby, it ticks me off to no end that people constantly demand his return. Same goes for Sigma, what a lame villain.

X varies from game to game, but sometimes he's awesome.

Sigma is always awesome imo. He's a freaky baldheaded giggling genocidal maniac. Something about him amuses me to no end.

You want to know who's just awful?

Zero-mmx.png

Seriously. This guy. This freaking guy. It's amazing that someone I hated so much could come from the desk of someone whose character designs I adore.
Chaos, what are you talking about? This guy is awesome.
NO HE'S NOT. Let me count the ways in which he is terrible.
  • Let's start with that hair. That stupid hair. Just...why does he have it in the first place? It's not cool-looking at any rate; if Inafune wanted something to billow behind him when he dashed/ran, a cape would have been better. All it does as it stands is make him look unnecessarily edgy and incite gender-confusion in the audience.
  • Next...the laser sword. Good God, that laser sword. This is a bit of a personal point, but I believe an energy sword is really just a metal sword without any of its intended disadvantages—you're basically swinging around a metal stick that projects energy into the shape of a blade, so you don't have to worry about weight, or balance, or anything—you can just go gung-ho, slashing things all willy-nilly (And do boatloads of damage). If you put two swordsmen of equal skill in the same room, give one an energy sword and the other a metal sword, and tell them to fight, the one with the energy sword will always win. Always. Speaking of going gung-ho, that seems to be the general strategy with Zero. Between the X engine's versatile maneuverability and how overpowered the Z-Saber is (I once saw it kill a boss in X5 in, what, three hits?), he's like the game's Easy Mode. And Easy Mode should never exist in a Mega Man game.
  • He died...three times, I think? His deaths were supposed to be meaningful and sad, because he was your ally who sacrificed himself to save you...oh, yes, so tragic, except he'll be rebuilt in the next game and back to doing things better than you. His X1 death came the closest to actually capturing this, considering he gave the player his buster as a lasting reminder of him, but then, as mentioned, he came back the very next game, and oh, how I didn't miss him. I felt worse for Green Biker Dude than I ever did for Zero.
  • He hijacked X's series from X. Now, I acknowledge that X was a whiny, melodramatic punk who was also pretty lame, but he was preferable to Zero at any rate. Zero began as a side character, someone that represented a beacon of hope; the opposing force was not insurmountable, Zero could kill them, and you can do it too. Unfortunately, this theme never came across, because in all the sequels, regardless of power levels, Zero was just so blatantly better than X, even when X was the character doing all the work! I know Zero was supposed to be the main character all along in Inafune's vision, and I know Zero eventually became the main protagonist of his own series, but that doesn't give him any right to shove the real main character aside like that, and the damage was already done and remained besides.
One of Zero's worse qualities is his fans—they put him up on his pedestal like he's the greatest thing to ever grace the Earth; yet, he's one of the worst Mega Man characters ever.
In my opinion, X is pretty bad all around from a storytelling/character design perspective...and Zero is the jewel in that crown.

While I don't dislike Zero personally, I can draw several parallels between him and Shadow the Hedgehog (who I actually dislike): both are powerful counterparts to the player character, both die, both are beloved by a large percentage of their series' respective fans, both were revived rather lazily (Zero moreso in the later games, in X2 it was actually an effort), and both got their own spinoff.

But at least Zero's games were actually good :P

To each their own. X has shown signs of his less-popular characterization from the first X game and Sigma's plan has never made any sense to me, and every time he revives himself, he becomes less and less threatening.

When it comes to MMX characters, there's no bigger loser than Dynamo. The story hypes him up like he's something important, but even Mac was cooler than this chump.
Dynamo.jpg

In X5 he's LITERALLY just there to waste your time. Then, after you kick his butt multiple times, he comes back in the next game for no reason, and lets you smack him around all over again. He has nothing else to do. He has no real ambitions, no style, no purpose...he's like the Pauly Shore of MMX games.

His only redeeming quality is his theme song, but c'mon, even Quint had a decent theme song!

Sigma's plan was always "I hate human beings more than Magneto and want to exterminate them." It was actually something of a plot point that he was becoming more and more mentally deranged with each revival, also.

He was pretty damn dangerous in X4 and 5. He almost blew up the Earth in 4, and actually (depending on what ending you got) killed almost everyone on Earth in 5.

Wasn't until 6 that he became a non functioning zombie much like x6 and x7 themselves

I think I might be one of the few people who likes MMX8 for the sole reason that

Sigma gets unceremoniously killed off and we get finally get a new final boss. I considered Lumine a breath of fresh air

As long as we're talking about X8 did anyone like Axl? It's a tremendous shame that he was introduced in X7. I actually like him more than X and Zero.

Oops I forgot this was the hate thread, I'll go and say that I hate Ragna the Bloodedge with the passion of an inferno. Aside from being an obnoxious pain in the ass to fight against I hate nearly EVERYTHING about his character design. Let's go down the list of "Now that's what I call EDGY!"

Costume with multiple, unecessarily placed belts? Check.

Hair with enormous spikes that could slice the hull of a ship? Check.

Most attacks have some type of darkness motif? Check.

Swears constantly and has a personality that almost borders on whiny? Check.

Long story short it's like he was made to offend my eyes. It's not that I don't like fighting him (even though I do.) it's that I hate looking at him.

To me, the saving grace of most of BB's original cast is that they simultaneously feel like parodies and homages to all the played out anime cliches that everyone knows about.

Ragna is pretty much an amalgamation of every spiky haired big sword shounen hero ever conceived. I actually would probably like him a lot less if they didn't go overboard with all the tropes to show that they weren't taking it too seriously.

Very true, sad thing is that I can't take massive amounts of angst lol. Now that I think about it I kinda hated most of BB's cast to begin with, it's just that he and a few others stood out the most among the cast. Parodies or not, I probably won't stop hating them lol.

Another character I hate with angst being the driving factor is Edge Maverick. He was so terrible he actually made me put SO4 down.

Where do I even begin? Oh yes, that's right.

I dont wanna hear it from anyone idc of parasoul is your main or waifu or whatever, shes cheap as hell and gets away with so much stupid shit its not even funny and you know it

The hell is that?!

Jaquio. On top of being an utterly terrible person and puppy eater in-uinverse, he's probably one of the most notoriously frustrating bosses on the Nintendo. He's incredibly difficult to defeat, and actually breaks the rules of the game by not allowing you to restart the fight upon losing one of your lives, and instead sends you back to the beginning of the stage. Not to mention said stage is a marathon level that's at least 3 times as long and as difficult as the rest of the games stages, and he has several forms which do not refill your health or sub weapon stock.

It's kinda difficult is what I'm saying.

Also he's a smug asshole

Basically he kills you, sends you back three levels, then your health isn't regenerated once you fight him again. Got back to him with low life? Well fuck you.

Also note that you get sent back upon the first death when fighting him, not losing all your lives. He's a renegade cop that doesn't play by the rules. And his homing fireballs are ridiculous.

Yup. A friend of mine on another forum did manage to 1 life clear the whole game, it was pretty awesome

Final boss at 17:20

That only increases the trauma the game has caused me. I will never be a real man until I have conquered Ninja Gaiden...

And to think we might have gotten a cool sounding character in Black Cobra, until some guy at Capcom went "Hey! Americans don't want a badass breakdancing martial artist, they like humorously overweight annoying characters that never shut up!". It doesn't help that Bob basically does the whole "heavyweight with light movements" thing better, not to mention actually being likable.
seriously.
To be honest, SF probably has the most characters from fighting games that i despise.

Actually I got a new one. It's a very minor NPC though. In Lightning Returns, the bard in Old Town of North Luxerion near the forge. Fuck that guy. Forces me to listen to an incredibly shitty song EVERY single time I go to upgrade equipment or synthesize abilities.
Couldn't agree with you more. I like to attack him just to make him stop, but I end up scaring everyone else away lol

Ayane from DoA. She just... why is she still alive? Oh and throw Hayate on that list too.

I just remembered another character I hate.
regular attack.jpg
No, I'm not talking about Naruto. I'm talking about Deidara. He is by far the most annoying boss in the game. When I first fought against him, it was really hard for me to catch up with him to be able to attack. But later, after I got the hang of the game a bit more and had Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, Deidara was easier. But it's still a bit of a pain when you're playing as Lee. I don't necessarily hate him anymore, but I still dislike him as a boss.

Yosuke friggin' Hanamura. Seriously, Persona 4 would be infinitely better if every single dialogue choice had a "Punch Yosuke really hard" option. The best part of Persona 4 Arena is that I can finally see him get the severe beatings I always dreamed of.

This guy can go drown in the air that's surrounding him. His powers actually will make you worse off than before, his ultra is super useless when Riki already has a Ultra that allows him to have invisibility when not attacking, and he's got the worst lines ever. Also it's a pain in the ass to use the one move that actually helps you.
On another note,
Storm_Spirit.png

He's so cheap, He's so annoying, and I want to punch that shit-eating grin off his face.

I can't wait for P4A2 so I can punch Rise with Teddie (Yosuke is fun)

his ult is super useless

say what, turning invisible and getting +movespeed and +hp regen is pretty sick

Now if only there were a way to punch THIS prick...

Eh... But it's funner and easier to have active cameo and go behind your enemies and murder them in cold blood with your powers shoes set on power (No, seriously set those shoes on power, it's much better than agility).

I don't even go there any more. It's like, not even touching that Social Link. No way.
"But your Magician Arcana-"
"Don't care!"

Oh,wait..only video game characters...hmmm.

Most of the soul caliber 5 cast. But mainly Z.W.E.L and Villoa. Not for personality wise (Since they have none other then being clearly Hot topic edgy)

But for the fact, they symbolize the game changing from melee combat. To poking and power moves. Both, have ungodly range, cheap weapons. And super dumper Emo taunts about how awesome they are when they beat you.

But, If we must go for OVerall...

brata.jpg

He is the largest plot hole in the game, everything he says is a plot hole. His reasoning is dumb. His motives are dumb. He truly is the thing that spoiled a otherwise good story. He is a deux ex machia x5.

I could go on..but, I just dislike him too much.

Fukua.

Well, as a joke character, I like her. And I enjoyed her story mode.

But GODDAMN is she annoying to fight online. She hits both hard and fast, and she can just spam that mid air projectile attack over and over again. At least the other characters that can zone have some sort of recovery period. Sheez.

Course, I'm still a little salty after losing to her a bunch of times, so perhaps there's just something I'm doing wrong.

I also used to hate Rikku from Final Fantasy X. BUUUUT ever since I started watched a certain show her voice actor stars in, I grew to tolerate her a bit more. Just a bit.

Awww. Not Brosuke. :(

Well, technically
you CAN punch him at the end of his social link. Hell, he WANTED you to punch him. :P
