"Conditions? How delightful. Go ahead, amuse me with your... condition."

Intelligent, calm, well-spoken. No other man can be so eloquent while implying he's about to present you his sadistic side. I often catch myself using his speech patterns, they've melted into me by now.

I'd likely fall in love with any character that's been gifted Tony Jay's marvelously sounding charismatic voice, but since the Lieutenant was the first of those characters that I've met, said voice will always make me think of the Lieutenant.

"There will be no more pain. There will be no more chaos."

This guy sure inspired some philosophical reflections back when my teenage self first encountered him and heard his speech.

A mythical necromancer who knows more about the nature of life and death than anyone in the game world. He tells you about his journey through following stages of the afterlife, explains his motives, references evidence you experienced yourself. Suddenly, despite the fact that he wants to put an end to all life, you see sense in his words and find yourself doubting, unsure whether you should put this man down or actually aid his cause. A well-made character that can do that with me definitely deserves my love.
y3LplN5.jpg

"What can change the nature of man?" "Updated my journal."

An immortal man on an endless quest to retrieve his memories.

It is my opinion that "Planescape: Torment" has the best story ever told in a video game and that is the story of the Nameless One. Good, evil, wise, foolish, he's done it all, forgot it all and paid greatly for it all. Accompanying him on confronting the world shaped by his past selves, learning about himself piece by piece and finally reaching a climatic and surprising in its nature end (?) of his journey, that was an emotional experience indeed.

Honorary mention, since I wouldn't be here posting this if not for her:

Well, it's usually the ones you love that can get you the most riled up sometimes, isn't it?

So, here are some picks from my short list. The S-Tier! Aside from being characters I had a lot of fun with, I realized most of these also played a major role in expanding my interest in different types of games:

Many thanks to these fine warriors!

On a more serious note:
Explaining the reasons as to why this robot is the only possible character I will ever be able to choose would take literally forever, as I find new reasons as to why Legion is the greatest character ever, as soon as I start thinking about him/her again. Try the latter two Mass Effects instead, yo. Pure ecstasy, just about every time it talks. I learn a lot from this dude/dudette.

On a more serious note--

Viewtiful Joe (the trilogy needs to be finish..)

Oh boy, where to start.....
ailb761.jpg

Gnaw - Awesomenauts

This guy is just funny as hell. For one, his playstyle is annoying, which makes playing as him fun, because you'll occasionally you'll kill unsuspecting enemy players with weedlings and poison dripping through platforms. His voice is pretty funny, yet cool and adds a ton of personality to his character. Oh yeah, and he has a hilarious melee animation. NOM. NOM. NOM. NOM.

R4ZJ9nl.png

Ryo Sakazaki - Art of Fighting/King of Fighters

Originally I didn't think much of this guy, but after using him in KOF 98, and later maining him in KOF XIII, this dude kicks ass. His karate based fighting style is really cool, he does some badass looking attacks (especially in XIII!) and he rides his fucking motorcycle with his GI on. Seriously.

ag0EH6t.png

Shermie - King of Fighters

When I first played KOF, she was among one of the first characters I took a liking to. For one, I love her hairstyle, and her outfit speaks for itself. Second, she has some pretty awesome animations and throws, especially in 2002. Third, she's one of the few grapplers I've enjoyed playing as, so much that she earned a permanent spot on my main team in both KOF 98 and KOF 2002. If only she was in the newer KOF games. Oh well.

r9lC7Nt.png

Ryuji Yamazaki - Fatal Fury/King of Fighters

This dude is fucking psycho. Oh, and he fights with one hand in his pocket too, I love that.

5HFYUe6.png

Terry Bogard - Fatal Fury/King of Fighters

I don't think he needs an explanation. Awesome character, awesome moveset, and he only became even more awesome in Garou.
also dat engrish

ifezqbD.png

Tam Tam - Samurai Shodown

I'll admit, I didn't care for this guy in the first game, but when I played Samurai Shodown IV, oh man, I began to love this guy. He has a really unique looking stance because of how tall he is, his mask is really cool looking, and goddamn he has massive reach with that blade of his. Oh, and his grab when he just starts biting his opponent with his back turned. So freakish and awesome.

S5uNg8Q.png

Sion Eltnam Atlasia - Melty Blood

Around the time I discovered Melty Blood, I instantly flocked to Sion because I liked her appearance, and of course, she ended up becoming my favorite character in the entire cast. Really fun character to use.

sX8iQA5.png

Squigly - Skullgirls

Ah, of course I had to post this one. When I first began playing the beta back in July when she was still unfinished, I wasn't really fond of her for some reason. However, skip ahead about a month and suddenly she became my favorite character in the entire roster. I love how she fights with leviathan, she has some really cool and hard hitting attacks (stand HP comes to mind) and I just love playing as her. I really liked her story and he art used in her story as well.

There's a lot more, but I'll add those in later posts.

You're awesome.

Two Steam games I played side-by-side were Bastion and Dust: An Elysian Tail.
1127077-fidget_01.png

Believe it or not I actually really grew to like Fidget. Normally a high pitched voice like her's would drive me insane, but the voice actor controlled it in such a way that it wasn't too grating.
Fidget's whole purpose is to assist Dust in battle and keep him company. Honestly if she were to suddenly disappear from the game I would start feeling very lonely. I actually haven't finished Dust, I took a very long break right before the point of no return.

The Kid is a silent protagonist so he doesn't have much characterization, but we learn a lot about his past in Who Knows Where. He's not a hero, he's just a guy trying to build a life in a shattered world. He's had a tough past and I really sympathize with him. Also I really love his character design, there aren't enough brown skinned protagonists in video games.

Here are a few more:
3445290-2485086653-9038-.jpg

I know some people never really like the blue boy scout and all, but this guy tries his best to others in need just like any other hero would. Plus, I enjoyed Superman: The Animated Series and some of his scenes in Justice League when I was young.

theflash.jpg

What can I say? Super speed is my one of my top favorite super powers (next to healing). He can be a clown when he wants to be, but when things get serious he gets serious.

tumblr_l67j9fpfm91qceo52o1_400.gif

Those two never fail to make me smile, whether separately or together. Plus, they are my two of my mains in Persona 4 Arena.

okay i got one for serious

Missile from Ghost Trick
in a game that's positively bustling with character, it still impresses me that the one that stood out most was a relatively normal dog. Missile's pure-hearted loyalty and sheer dedication to his master, along with his simpleminded and straightforward thought processes really just make him seem like a real dog that you happen to be able to understand. Not to mention, his role at the end of the game. Dear GOD, did that ever make me feel emotions.

Some of my favorites:

- Spy from Team Fortress 2
- Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes
- Kumatora from Mother 3
- Boo from Mario Bros.
- Star Man from Earthbound
- Mega Man from... can't remember... Marvel vs Capcom 3?
- Elizabeth from Persona 3
- Peacock, Squigly, and Brain Drain from Skullgirls

- Everyone from Skullgirls. Right down to the frickin' background NPCs, they're all amazing.
- Nana from Animal Crossing. She's just adorable and has stayed in my town since the start.
- Luigi, Daisy, and Toad from Mario. Luigi and Toad are cool, and Daisy because I love tomboy princesses.

Those are the ones I can list right off the bat. I'll probably think of more later.

I love ghost rider but sadly just like most forms of medias that are not comic books they don't do him justice. he's the spirit of vengeance for god sake he deserves better than just a pretty awesome voice actor
(how is he so sucky yet capcom had enough time to make sure a photographer and a lawyer were able go head to head with dr.doom)

the only thing that did Ghost Rider justice in the media was when he fought Galactus in the Fantastic 4's cartoon.

also, Mahvel actually makes Ghost Rider a pretty good character. he's just not the OP tier of characters like Vergil or Wesker.

I remember that scene...I was happy that day

leaving this here cause I'm getting all ghost rider geeky right now

It looks like the HATE thread is awake again, so let's try and spread the LOVE.
gravitydaze01.png

I've never played Gravity Rush, but what little I know about its protagonist pleases me to no end. Kat is courageous, selfless, and down-to-earth, not to mention pretty cute. She's basically everything I try to be, uhh minus that last part. Plus she's a dark-skinned protagonist and the video game industry is lacking in those. We share a lot of similarities and I think we'd get along very well.
The language barrier might be a problem though.

A large portion of my favorite characters in games (And mains in fighting games) tend to be complete assholes, insane douchebags, evil and unforgivable bastards, or all of the above
Examples:
Hazama
Arakune
Relius Clover
Nanaya Shiki
Azrael
Vaas

I'd list some other characters but those are the ones that immediately come to mind

Now that I think about it I really like Ashley and Young Cricket from the WarioWare series. Ashley's a super cute little witch girl with a little monster companion that can transform into anything and Young Cricket's a ninja? in training and I just like both of their overall designs.

Yuuka Kazami- Touhou series. She is the oldest youkai and quite possibly, the most powerful resident of Gensokyo. Even so, she barely uses any of her power, since it'd take the fun out of her interactions. Kind of like playing with her prey. Even when losing, she makes it obvious that she is quite victorious.

Remi- Street Fighter 3rd Strike. HE ONLY MADE ONE FLIPPIN APPEARANCE!!! ohmigod! I loved his playstyle, and his hair was animated so nice. Really, his overall design made me main him.

Ash Crimson- KOF. He smirks at you through the entire match.

Juri Han: Street Fighter IV. She's really fun to play.

Dizzy- Guilty Gear series. All I can say is she's such an innocent character with an extremely threatening power that she can't control. Characters like that are my favorite.

Taokaka- BlazBlue. She's just hiliarious

Ms. Fortune- Skullgirls. I never, ever, user Ms. Fortune. I can't play her. But them puns, I just love em.

Awww yeah, Ellinor is awesome, as is the whole aesthetic of that game.

On that note, probably my favorite shmup in terms of character designs is the Mahou Daisakusen series. It's basically a steampunk Dungeons and Dragons bullet hell shmup franchise, with some of the quirkiest and coolest character designs in the genre imo. Everyone in the series is just bursting with personality.
