Video Game Characters You LOVE

Like, half of those image links are broken.

Still working on my end, I notice this is an issue on this forum. You could always try right clicking and "open in new tab". Usually works when something shows up broken for me on here.

Also should have included this with last post, but even the intro is hilarious (engrish so great)

THEY ARE THE TOUGH BOUNTY HUNTERS!

Awww yeah, Ellinor is awesome, as is the whole aesthetic of that game.
Yeah, Ellinor/Terri was a big eye-opener for me. The copy of MUSHA I rented as a kid didn't come with a manual, so it wasn't until the ending cutscene that I actually realized the pilot was a woman. Before then, it never crossed my mind that a girl could pilot such a cool robot, and look as tough as she did in the intro animation. I had also just watched her take out a whole enemy armada by herself! The experience really changed my perspective on female characters.

Later on, Samus would shatter any preconceptions I still had, and I realized that being a badass video game character was not gender exclusive. Samus and Ellinor also showed me that ladies didn't need to dress "sexy" to get the job done either. Of course, if girls like Blaze wanted to go out and kick ass on their way to the nightclub, that was cool too.

Anyway, I actually never heard of Mahou Daisakusen, so I'll definitely need to check that out sometime!

That ain't a good start KaboomKid, but I'm glad your thinking this way now.

It's a very good start actually. MUSHA is fucking awesome and has a fucking awesome setting and aesthetic. Ellinor is also in a few other games in the series and is pretty neat.

By ain't a good start I meant that there was a point that he actually believed that being a badass is gender exclusive.
I still hate MUSHA though, I hate all shmups.

I don't think he thought that. I think he just meant it was his first exposure to a non steriotypical character in such a game.

I hate all shmups.

That's because you are a terrible person.

Even if you're not into it, there is no reason to hate what is the simoultaneously the purist and deepest form of combat in video games.

I'm not speaking to you anymore.

I'd prefer this whole page just be wiped from existence, or at least all messages between me and Squire.

Even if you don't like me, I still think you're cool.

Believe me, I meant no offense.

Seriously though, it's very offensive when you say that you don't respect another person's beliefs. You don't have to like it, but you do have to respect it, unless it's fundamentally wrong like racism or sexism.

I still think this thread should be edited, this is getting out of hand.

Well, it was only partially serious.

Second, I saw you as not respecting my tastes. The way I see it, there is absolutely no reason to "hate" something someone else likes, unless it's absolutely offensive or objectively terribly designed. There are plenty of games that I don't enjoy in the slightest, but you would never catch me saying I hate them or that they are bad games. I can respect those games and the things people seek in them, even if I do not enjoy them in the slightest.

That's why I can't respect someone "hating" an entire genre. It's just a game, it's done nothing to deserve outright distaste even if it's not to your taste, so I cannot really acknowledge such an opinion as being well founded. If someone tells me they hate something, they need to produce something to back it up. Hate is a strong word, after all.

But that's just me. I intended my post to be taken partially in jest at any rate, as noted by the emoticon lol.

I honestly don't see a need to much of any cleaning up. There are tempers flaring here but not too the point where it is derailing the thread. It is opinions clashing on a particular subject. The only thing "out of hand" is this exchange between Denizen and Squire. If you must, please take this conversation to a PM. Otherwise continue to engage one another in this discourse.

You have the power to stop that. Take it to a PM. Let other members continue doing their thing. Zen, I can only see you as the one here who is perpetuating this argument. Grooktook responded in a manner that was instigating but he explained himself.

Alright then. Do as you must. Everyone, get back to talking about characters you love.

Edit (Again): Deleted off-topic posts. I will continue this. Take your personal problems to a thread where that discussion can be held or to a PM like I have already asked.

are you crazy kids arguing about video games on the internet again

anyways
metroid fusion reignited my love for samus
hell yeah

Yeah, it's the best design for Samus by far imo. Wish they had kept that aesthetic rather than the Zero Suit.

JUSTICE is probably the reason I like Ky Kiske. That and he's a lawful-good/holy knight type who actually undergoes character development and demonstrates heroism and compassion and stays true to his ideals/beliefs while addressing them and their flaws, unlike all those "knight templar" types who serve as one dimensional caricatures.

Viola is another one im in love with.

I love @Denizen *hug* I mean, he started the whole thread, so I hope we can all still be friends!

To keep the topic rolling, I figured I'd post some other favorites of mine from different games. These range from A to B tier for me, but I still think they're awesome:

Y'know, it 's interesting how connected we can get to video game characters, even though our interactions with them seem very limited. It's like, for those few moments that we play them, they can share our thoughts, become our good friends, or even become our arch-enemies. Kinda creepy when you think about it!

Since I recently posted my hated character from Okami, guess I should give a mention to a character I love from it:

Waka.jpg
Waka's first arrival came at just about the perfect time for me: I was still at the point where the combat was too easy and too limited, and there hadn't been any characters I ADORED as of yet. By the time his introduction was half over, I had a man-crush on him <3

He was fabulous, he was the first enemy to not only provide a challenge, but utterly destroy me, and, since I was introduced to it by Bayonetta, I completely lost it when he declared that his sword was Pillow Talk.

Even after that initial encounter, Waka has been a great rival. Every time he arrives, he induces in me a mixture of hatred and swooning, and makes me eager to fight him again :)

When I think of awesome game characters, I think of Kenny from the Walking Dead, no second thought about it.

I heard that depending on the choices you make, he's either a cool guy or a huge asshole. I've heard that you have to make some questionable decisions for the former, but these are only things that I've heard. Never played the game.

Really, he's an asshole if you are an asshole to him, although that's kinda an overstatement. But I don't really see who could hate Kenny, he's just a really good guy, and if he's not nice to you, you can usually understand why.

One's opinion of Kenny generally rides on the outcome of one decision:

Are you willing to kill your leader's dad because he might have died from a stroke, since any death equals zombie? If yes (assuming you have been on Kenny's side for every single other time so far), than you will become bestest buds with Kenny forever. If you are willing to try to help save the dad's life, since he could still be alive, there is a great chance that you will hate Kenny for the rest of the game.

As one of those who hated Kenny with a burning passion, I can assure you that he gives completely valid reasons very quickly for you to hate him if you do not side with him: he almost lets you die, he almost gets himself killed Leeroy Jenkins-style trying to save his kid, he almost lets you die again, he almost let's his infected kid kill everyone in the group, and he will always... ALWAYS tell you that you have never cared about him or his family, when you have saved their lives more times than he has.
For those who did agree with Kenny every time, from what I can tell, he is a reasonable guy in a dark, hurtful world. I just could not side with him when it mattered most, and there was no saving our friendship after that.
