Weird or Unusual headcanons

I see Gregier having an odd, blue and orange morality He tends to scare people cause of this, Among other reasons. He's almost as bad as Brain Drain.

when people want bd to understand something they tap on his brain jar to make sure he gets the point

Painwheel is able to do those freaky contortionist poses because Brain Drain is psychically breaking and re-setting her limbs.

Big Band and Beowulf are total bros.

Peacock and Parasoul get into huge arguments about which season of Annie of the Stars was the best season. Every time a team with Peacock fights a team with Parasoul, that's the reason why they're fighting.

  • Peacock and Parasoul are actually banned for life (despite Parasoul's reputation as princess) because they had a huge fight in the studio on 1. Who did the best Annie cosplay 2. who did the best Segan cosplay (Avery and Umbrella who have never been close as friends since) 3. who got to stalk see Annie after the show. Their fight almost destroyed the studio, almost injured the crowd (Including Marie all the way in the back) and almost destroyed Annie's room
  • Ms. Victoria hides her whip under the desk in case of Medici Attack or Skullgirl attack
  • Black Dahlia despises Annie because she always wanted to be an actress

I actually really like this one, it's cute and kind of sad, like she's trying to regain some sort of normalcy before going absolutely bonkers on the Medicis. ;_;.
Also if im correct, Annie has experience fighting skullgirls so it either be Annie goes into Anti-SG mode or Marie gets scared and just say 'ALL I WANTED TO DO IS SEE WHY MY FRIEND IS SO INTO YOUR SHOW!'

Went a little overboard with headcanons in the ACTUAL canon topic so I'm bringing it here - a geography headcanon.

There's a fantasy culture counterpart to Japan called the Tiger Empire. They and the Dragon Kingdom have been fierce enemies for centuries. This is based off dragons and tigers being depicted as fierce rivals in both Chinese and Japanese folklore as well as the real life animosity between those countries.
The Tiger Empire natives are carnivore mammal ferals (mostly of the feline variety) as opposed to the Dragon Kingdom's fish folk.

I thought that Feng is from the Dragon Empire though? And I always figured that Dragon Empire was a mixture of Asian Cultures including Japan.

I got something like that:
As there is a "Little Innsmouth", I assume there must be an actual proper "Innsmouth" somewhere in the SG world that's considered the homeland of Dagonians.

True to the source material, I assume its appearance would fall somewhere in between the non-Euclidean wonderment of R'lyeh and cozy hometown feel of a New England coastal town.

Eh, I think a mostly-feline feral nation would take more after Spain and Mexico than Japan, if only because I'm pretty sure Alex said once that Ms. Fortune's the Skullgirls equivalent of Latina.

Gonna try killing two stones with one bird here.

Yes, I do believe Feng has been mentioned to hail from the Dragon Empire. But I'm assuming the Dagonians are its native people or, at least, the largest chunk of its population. Unless Yu Wan and Minette's Asian motifs are truly unique to them, but some Little Innsmouth NPCs seem to look Asian... well, as Asian as a sea-creature humanoid can look.
But yeah, what "triggered" my idea was wondering if Japan has its own fantasy culture counterpart or if the Dragon Kingdom encompasses the most popular aspects of Asian civilizations in general.
To elaborate on the quite specific "Tiger Empire", it was cooked from assorted reasons - dragons and tigers being depicted as fierce rivals in both Chinese and Japanese folklore, Japan's imperialistic aims to take over mainland Asia, several warlords from feudal Japan "connected" to the animal (mainly Takeda Nobutora, Takeda Shingen, Ii Naotora and Kato Kiyomasa), the existence of aquatic dragons in Asian mythology and the common idea of cats preying on fish.

And yeah, I suppose this sort of thing would make Nadia's friendship with Dagonians a truly special thing.

Don't forget that Cerebella is also the Skullgirls equivalent of Brazilian, which is technically another subset of Hispanic people. (there's a lot of Hispanic countries. Brazil's a bit of an odd duck cause they were founded by the Portuguese.) Although I do think that Feline ferals are spread everywhere, they might have specific traits that identify them with a certain cultural equivalent. For example, a Russian Blue based Feral would be obviously from a Russian background, Scottish Fold for Highlands equivalent, etc.

I really wanna know about the Skullgirls equivalent to Russia now. I'm actually rather curious where it would sit, geographically speaking, seeing as the Canopy Kingdom is equal parts America and Europe, and the Dragon Empire is sort of an amalgamation of various Asian countries, and Russia's just a part of the whole Eurasian landmass.

Can't really see it being a part of the Dragon Empire, though.

I have a few weird ones.

• Beatrix tries to turn absolutely EVERYTHING into a competition when Cerebella is involved.
• Leduc acts like the SG equivalent to a shonen hero when he's trying to be serious.
• Black Dahlia can perfectly remember the number of people she's killed.
• Despite his loud and boisterous actions in the ring, Beowulf is actually very intelligent.

I kinda wanna see it as the Chess Kingdom.

Grandmaster Meio = the final boss of the Strider games

Now, for some reason, I'm imagining a Hiryu ripoff offing the leader of the Chess Kingdom and effectively starting the Second Grand War.

I dunno, guize. After someone in another thread suggested the Chess Kingdom being influenced by Near Eastern cultures (given how chess was invented and codified in the regions where India and Iran now stand), I just can't see it any other way. Also helps that I'm very fond of Arabic architecture.
On the other hand, Grandmaster Meio Chess King...

Tiger Empire still 100% legit. :3

Could be a fusion or somehow the Canopy includes Russia.

I always figured that technically Rommelgrad and the Gigan Nation were the Skullgirls equivalent of Russia. Plus Russia isn't too far from Finland, Norway and Sweden , which the Gigan Nation might take cues from.

Also I accept the Chess Kingdom being the Skullgirls equivalent of Persia.

Some minor culture headcanons for Canopy Kingdom:
  • A majority of the holidays in reality also exist in Canopy, abet possibly under different names.
  • Due to the absorption of the old Meridian Empire, they have a equivalent of Carnival.
  • The Medici were possibly part of or distantly related to the original rulers of the Meridian Empire.
  • Said royal family and the Renoirs had a feud going back years.
  • Trinitists have several sub religions within it, similar to Catholics, Christians, Mormons, Jehovah's witnesses, etc.

That's actually canon.

I know that there's an Islam equivalent but Alex hasn't specified exactly how much "splitting" is between core trinitists. And I don't remember Alex actually saying that the Medici were aristocrats, just that they have a reasonably powerful hold on Pre-canopy Meridian Empire.

Given their namesake is the real life House of Medici, they likely held strong political power but were always "officially" citizens. They were probably not rulers in the sense of a Medici wearing the crown but were the de facto rulers by pulling the weight of their wealth.
tl;dr - LOADSAMONEY

Entirely necessary.

Necessary? INDISPENSABLE!
I love it when people get references. *kenshiromanlytears.jpg*

Since we had musical headcanons, I can totally see Lorenzo and Vitale playing that one out, with Bella and VV throwing money in the air, breakdancing Ottomo and Dahlia using burning wads to light her cigarette.

• The flames that wreathe Skull Heart and the flames that Leviathan breathes are very similar and very special. Most fire comes from burning gas or fuel, but this unique fire comes from burning the very spirit of the user.

• This "Soul Fire" can only be wielded by those who possess a Parasite associated with death, such as Leviathan and the Skull Heart. Since Squigly and Marie both have a theme of death it would explain why they can both use it. The Mother of the Trinity would be able to use it inherently.

• Soul Fire is different from normal fire, it's properties are dependent on the spirit of the user. Therefore it's temperature can range from freezing to burning, it can be used to hurt or heal, and it varies in color with the user. One final property of the ethereal flame is that not only does it damage physically, it damages spiritually as well. Touching just a room temperature flame directly can hurt without any physical effect whatsoever.
• Aeon is the goddess of time and Venus is the goddess of space. Therefore The Mother should be the goddess of something as well.

That something is Death.

Expanding on Denizen's Mother headcanon a bit.

The goddesses appear to have power over elemental aspects of existence with Aeon's time and Venus' space. I'd wager a guess that Mother has power over the final elements that fit into that picture, life and death. Alternatively, creation and destruction.

Both possibilities likely implied by the duality of her half alive, half dead face. With said face and those vine-like structured in the trinity statue, she does seem like half mother nature, half grim reaper.

I think that the vines are actually arteries and veins. Arteries are connected to the heart, so I think that they could somehow represent the Skullheart in some way. Since the Mother's face is half skull, maybe the Skullheart is part of her/is her. Then again, the arteries seem to originate at the bottom of the cross, so perhaps the bottom of the cross represents it. But of course it could be something else entirely. I don't pay as much attention to Lore as I should, so it's totally possible I'm making myself sound stupid right now.

... Wait a minute, Aeon has breasts in that statue.
If that statue was thriving for accuracy, she'd have to be fixated on a not-3DS or a doujin.
I wonder if Canopians know they're worshiping such a perverted goddess? "YAOI FOR THE FUJOSHI GODDESS!"

Skullgirls: where the biggest plot holes and inconsistencies revolve around tits.
The larger the plot, the bigger the chances for such mistakes.

And I agree with Mother's divine duality - she's the goddess of keeping your shape after having kids and MILFs.

The vines/arteries theory probably isn't far off, actually. If you look at Marie's sprites in the midst of her boss battle, you'll see that in her 2nd form, the tendrils coming off of the Skull Heart take on a form that has a distinct shape similar to a human circulatory system:

marieveins1.png

It's even more visible when you look at Alex's concept art of her.

Marie-Veins-skullgirls-34436646-851-1118.jpg

Here, you can clearly see openings in those tendrils that give them an artery-like appearance. Really, it just makes an overwhelming amount of sense for the Skull Heart to produce veins. The heart is the central element of the vascular system, and likewise the Skull Heart is the central element of the Skullgirl's power and what it manifests from.

Incidentally, it looks like those tendrils used to be vines if you look at old concept art--there seems to have been something of a Día de los Muertos-like theme, even vaguely Frida Kahlo-esque imagery.

mariedelosmuertos.jpg

However, it seems the "vines" element has been entirely phased out by this point, save for a very, very small stylistic detail in the game's logo and HUD.

Reading through @LKArtillery's posts is like reading an essay.

At this point this isn't weird or unusual head canon, it's speculation of lore. I think you all should move this conversation to Skullgirls Lore Speculation.

I'm just a veritable cornucopia of verbose erudition.

And I would normally put something like that in that thread there, but the info in my post was relevant to the posts in this thread so I kept it here.

I suppose I could cross-post it, though.

  • I have admittedly mixed feelings about this headcanon but that's for another thread. I can see where your coming from though.
  • Actually I think one of Double's quotes implied that Mother was Both creation and oblivion, Life and Death. Or a stream. I can't remember for sure.

Admittedly expanding a bit on LKArtllery's skullheart headcanon wall o' text, I always thought that Skullgirls as a whole were partially inspired by Dia de los Muetros, abet a dark and corrupted version of it. Or they could be interpretations of various grim reaper motifs as a whole. Like each skullgirl was probably themed after the tragedy that more or less created them. Annie's mom probably had a age motif, Selene, I always pegged as a corruption of a Grieving widow and the need for closure, and Nancy and Marie are obvious.
