didnt do as well this time around. too many dropped combos, empty hitconfirms, not punishing, and bad blocking. i dunno why. nerves? i did eat a big meal before this so maybe dont get the aftermeal sleepiness when you wanna play

20 minutes in training mode and i need a better gamepad

I just can't. I just cannot. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm following all your tips. I'm throwing my chair. I'm chairless c.HKing. I'm throwing fireballs. I just cannot get out of zoning.

I'm holding down back, and I still get hit by bullets and walking Georges. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. It's just not working. Same against "Napalm Shot". I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
you just have to wait and find an opening its hard cuz you wanna hit them so badly but thats something you got to get past i been playing this game since release and i still have problems with peacock

I only watched the zoner video...

Resets are important in this game. In order to reset, you need to get to a point in your combo where you're able to reset. In order to get there, you need to be able to do your combo up to that point without dropping it. You really weren't doing bad in that match, you just need to continue those combos. You may only get one chance in a game to touch a zoner, and you have to make that count.

Also, dash before jumping more. You aren't getting enough horizontal movement off them.

I think a lot of my frustration with blocking might be because I think I'm holding downback or upback when in reality I'm holding down or up. My gamepad doesn't have notches, so it's hard to tell where I'm actually pointing specifically, but I don't necessarily wanna blame the controller. No johns.

But yeah, I'm dropping combos too. I think I might have fucked my controller up at some point, the HP button can be finicky. But again, can't blame the controller. I'm keeping at it.

A hitconfirm is an initial hit that you use to make sure the rest of your combo is gonna land.

aaaahaha i know what a hit confirm is, i just tend to land them without following up OR follow up with no hitconfirms, leading to unsafe everythings

I don't know what to do, to be honest. I understand what I need to do to make myself better. It's just not happening. Yes, I'm holding back to block and I'm holding downback to block low. I can see when those come out. It's just not happening and I need it to happen. I hate this notchless gamepad and I hate that I have to blame this gamepad. My saltiness comes from the fact that my inputs aren't coming out and I look like a total asshole. I need a camera pointed at my gamepad so people can see that I'm not just a douche who cant block overheads.

My offense is pretty decent. My neutral is meh. I'm inputting the right stuff for defense, but it just doesn't happen. I'm still working at it.

I got an idea.
Absolute Guard.
Or whatever it's called, I dunno.
Up-backing is also pretty neat, just don't use it very often; use it only when you know their general blockstring or what they use for Oki.

Absolute Guard doesn't really work if my downbacks aren't being read at all. Neither does pushblocking, really.

Okay, so, grab teching. I've always had this problem in every fighting game I've played (so like 3). It's gotten to the point where I'll start holding back and mashing the grab buttons after I inevitably start getting comboed on. How can I get better at reading grabs?

hey so i might just be a total dumb but why is this triggering ips? i know i used j.mp but i didnt think it would trigger it so early. i never started a string with j.mp before that.

c.LK > c. MK > c.HP > horace > c.MK > c.HP > j.LK > j.MP > j.HP > adc > j.MP > ips

Look at the Combo Stage.

When combo stage is at 5, you can't use a button that is red in the IPS button counter thingy that you can see in advanced attack data. Different combo stages have different leniency (AFAIK 1, 2 and 3 are the most common and are the jump in string, first ground string and first air string respectively, and in stage 3 you are allowed to ADC into an air normal that you have used in your chain before (so j.LK j.MP j.HP adc j.MP would work as your first launch string) ).

Also learning when to throw break on defense comes mostly with experience and reads, it's mostly about knowing the opponent's tendencies. However most of the time you're better off neutral jumping and coming down with a button if you read a throw tech since you get more reward for relatively the same amount of risk.

EDIT: On some characters it's also based on knowing their effective ranges. Double's c.LK for example reaches MUCH further than her throw, so if you can see you're past that range you don't need to worry about teching her throw.

Well you use Eliza WAY better than me.
Fukua too.

Man I'm the worst :D

Don't worry, bae, I exist.
But you won at least one match!
ONE MATCH!

Btw I don't get too salty if I lose. I only get dissappointed if it happens too often and I'm still trying to main properly

If you box against a blind and deaf man he'll eventually hit you.

I, too, never get salty. Like, ever.
I have calmness and patience as deep as the ocean AND FURY THAT BURNS THE FLESH OF TOURNY PLAYERS

That video makes me look bad, I demand a rematch. >~<
Also, does it really look that laggy on your side
Of course! and unfortunately, that is what my side looks like ;w; It might have been a fluke, though! My internet was acting up last night, so hopefully that's the case.

oh shush im sure you're great. also my eliza mixups are subpar at best, keep working at it. Her air grab into c.mk works on everyone except Parasoul and /maybe/ Valentine or Robo, haven't tried those extensively.

First to 10 with @gllt ! Trying out more with my Eliza/Beo team, I felt like I did better in this than I have before against gllt. Still lots of work to do!

Little suggestion with Beo? Remember that c.MK is a grab (2 hits) against airborne enemies that are falling (like with chairless c.HP). This is important because it lets you save up one level (if you use QCB+KK(that's the jumping super right?)) and maybe continue your combo.

Also with one level of hype and after going with QCB+KK > F+K you can use a grab finisher (or kicks n butts) when landing, but this only with F+K. it will not let you do this with a Press or B+K.
QCBlablabla is also easy to land on the chair from far away with F+K and cause extra damage and build hype, but you can also land with B+K if the chair is closer.

In general landing finishers on the chair is a bonus both with B+K and F+K. It's NOT INDISPENSABLE but it's nice.

Wulf press slam (ground grab finisher) is basically for putting distance and it's not a bad tool although it deals less damage than the other finishers.
Its damage is not bad though, so don't be afraid to use it.

Also obviously maximize damage with grab and chairless c.HK tech and yaddayaddayaddaiknowsall

I'm not a Beo expert but his grab mechanics have captivated me for a while.

EDIT: well little suggestion my ass! This must be annoying, sorry

Update! I'm still gawrbage. I don't know what to do, really. I'm using Fukua and Eliza because I don't know where to start with Robo Fortune or Double or anyone that I want to learn, really. I'm just lost. Like a sad little children's movie about a bag of trash trying to find his way back home to the dump.

I still have no fucking clue how to deal with Filia.

I still have no fucking clue how to deal with Robo-Fortune.

I still don't understand why I'm losing so much. I know that's not """"""""""progress""""""""", but if I was actually getting better I still wouldn't be getting perfected all the time. I'm at that frustrating point where I'm not improving and I don't know what I can do to improve. It's hard to find 'intermediate players' because, turns out, pretty much all 'intermediate players' are leagues better than me, but I'm too experienced to be a beginner.

I don't know. This is frustrating.

Dealing with Filia: on a zoning point of view she is a great target so you can do something with Fukua I guess.

once you play double its not easy to quit her she gets inside you and does things to you that are wonderful...what? just me? well this is awkward.

I'm an intermediate player who is both a little rusty and learning a new character. Sounds like playing a few games with me could be what you're looking for, if you're up for it. Add me on steam if you're interested.
