I was looking for some good footage of Val players, but then it occurred to me, we don't have that many, and I don't even think Duck plays her (or this game) anymore. o_O' Actually.... are there any left?

But then again, I've might been out of the streaming scope around the globe. Anyways, which Val players are currently at the top? I know Omni doesn't even play SG anymore, and that's just sad.

With all due respect to Shin ATproof (who's an amazing homie, player and person) I just don't think WC is strong enough (better yet, cheap enough) to consider you my man... o_O' - #Kappa

(Shots fired WC, Evo is just around the corner, also CB)

Duckator plays like Filia/Eliza or something but you can still view the Kumite he participated in. It's not that outdated.

The best? Who knows. But having played ducks and shins really oldschool vals a few games each, i think @ClarenceMage is quite a good val player. His forte is that he specializes in a super lame neutral val, has very high end optimization with her, and has many different types of resets and burst baits.

up back dead cross pro strats

CloudKing then probably Outlaw Spike. OmniSScythe also has a very precise neutral with her ( a lot of it just comes from years of Anime fundamentals, but still). I think there's a video of him playing Negus at NEC.

It's been pretty lonely on the Val side with Duckator playing Filia/Eliza and ThatOneOtherDude dropping the game after EVO.

Also don't sleep on west coast yo, we're really starting to pick up in NorCal and CenCal. Don't underestimate PNW either.

SoCal is not a good representation of the rest of the west coast. For one, the rest of WC can beat WingZero

Aight this is going to turn into a huge fight with all the shots being fired, but when has Norcal beaten me? Outside of severin? Better quit it.

Ok, thanks guys! Another thing I was noticing... where are the match videos in these forums overall? This game has replays and yet I don't see video-only thread in the character sections.

Like the ones we have in DL: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/inde...ng-thread-match-and-combo-only-no-discussion/

Come on people, pretty soon we'll have the JP gods generating footage on how to play this game properly when it hits the arcades. o_O'

I give this thread a day before mods shut it down. "Whose the best x" threads never end well.

That wasn't my intention, I was just looking for players to watch now that a lot of Val players had quit. I was poking fun at Shin.

I was thinking more about something in the lines of character specific match video threads like the ones in DL.
See MY Valentine. ;)

Hey now, let's be fair and not forget you losing to Negus in that money match in October. That'd make 2 people :P

Negus is Cencal, and I beat him at NEC.

TBF, Mwisk Dolfinh* said the rest of WC and not just Norcal (though yeah I did forget Negus isn't Norcal), and I wasn't saying you can't beat Negus like what maybe Mwisk inplied, just that he can (since he did once before).

Fenster pls just stop. I wasn't talking about what Mwisk said. I was refering to what Dolfinh said.

Mwisk da bes val br

Its funny how cali wants to divide itself into 3 parts for 1 fucking state, yet back east they are content to claim the entire right side of the US as their territory...

Sorry, but when that happens cali has no chance by raw numbers.

Tldr... Pls try and stop it with the division of the west coast.

Or not and continue to try and take 1/3rd of a state at a time up against an entire coast...

amazingly enough not as big of a wall of text as usual
nah i'd rather be the sole rep of an entire region you know what i'm saying? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Why is it I can't make friendly jabs at people without setting something like this off.

@Dime_x at majors, we are west coast. Outside of that though the rivalry continues! It's good motivation for us up here. Also west coast has tons of strong players.

Anyway I apologize for this explosion. That was not my intention but I guess I should know better than to do that on skullheart.

East Coast is only one entity when other coasts/outside countries are involved.

Tournaments where only EC enters=Fuck New York/Fuck VA/MD/FuckFuckFuck

Duck probably still has the best Valentine but if we have to say who is the best at MAINING Valentine right now I suppose Cloudking or Outlaw I suppose.

Yeah I was thinking clarence mage, but i've never actually seen him play

We have a local player working on getting consistent recordings of games/sets of local play and online lobbies so we should have recent footage of me soon!

Duck is arguably just as washed up as you are but there aren't enough people in the US that are really good/confident enough to do that much about it consistently. Player confidence comes into it, and if Duck unironically thinks that Val is bad(Maybe it was a joke in the thread he posted in? Who knows) then no chance he's going to put his best into Val.

I was starting to write about the other Val players, but I realised that I can't find recent footage of any of them! None of cloudking, omnisscythe, outlawspike. Nothing within the last month that's easily available. In order to make a proper judgement I would need said footage. A bit jerk of me to say I need footage when there is pretty much none of me, but hey that's what you need.

I firmly believe that I am currently the best Valentine though if the other Val players haven't SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED since I last saw footage of them, though I need to pick up the slack in my tech department since I've been over-focusing on Painwheel. btw I am gunning for #1 painwheel and I know for a fact I use great basic tech that isn't widely used by other prominent pw players. idk if I can pheasibly be best band, but being a good enough band is fine right now.

Hi @Mwisk this thread will likely spiral into an awful firing range pretty soon, so here's the most constructive thing I can offer:

You don't really need the latest/greatest player to emulate. While going through current players' matches and learning from their successes and failures is great and completely awesome, watch old tape too. It's not like old tape just becomes worthless because Undizzy dropped to 240 or IPS rules changed or a player stopped getting results.

Even if it's a different version or particular matchups changed due to individual patches, you're still going to get a better grasp of their neutral and goals/mindset. The patch changes are almost 95% combos and system-wide changes, the few MU changes that happen because of a buff/nerf are something that you need to run into and lose to for your own experience anyways so that you find your own solutions and understand why some decisions are made or why some things are/become good or bad.

Moreover, you're likely to uncover some older stuff that fell out of circulation and can either be improved yourself or re-used with adjustments. A really good example of this is the Val burst bait at 6:20 in the recent chinese matches that were submitted:

I can tell you the only Vals I've ever seen use that carry combo are Duck, Cloudking, MPGame (with variants) and myself. I have never seen any of them do that particular reset/bait in a recorded match, and yet the people that go back and steal Duck's stuff now have a cool bait the newer generation may not.

Did you want to money match me or something? This would be a good way to do it.

@Duckator can correct me if I'm wrong here but I think he just doesn't like retail Valentine. He was playing her in the beta tournament at Frosty Faustings.

Wouldn't blame him, retail Val is poop compared to the other stuff that happens there. Beta Val is extremely solid.

Sounds good.

Are you coming to NCR? I'm not going to SCR this year so if not then this will probably have to wait until EVO.

(This is the last you'll hear from me in this thread so it'll stay on topic. Feel free to PM me. Or I think I have you on steam?)
