Recognizing that something is really difficult for you to deal with or that someone is consistently beating you is pretty important for growing as a player. Once you've identified a problem, you then need a plan.

In the interest of sparking some personal introspection into your progress as a player, let's have a thread about what players consistently beat you, and what you feel the root of the problem is. If there's no specific players that you can put your finger on, but a character, team, or tactic/strategy that gives you grief, share it and see if others have had that problem in the past, or have a different character's, team's, or player's perspective that could help you adjust.

While I'm curious to see others acknowledge their weaknesses and plans, please keep in mind this is intended to be a constructive thing; i.e., something or someone you can admit gives you a hard time and that you could work towards beating rather than whining that something's imbalanced or needs patching.

Once you've posted, sharing some experience/insight into others problems would be appreciated as well.

No one. It's all data for me.
Everyone. Everyone beats me a lot. While I've figured out a defense for most characters I still hate squigly the most because it's an annoying match up.
Actually the person who beats me the most is myself because I mess up my inputs more than I would like and lag, that's like facing a god.

Filia - Fiber/Air Grab. Head.
Painwheel - Air grab the bitch and beat her at her own game but cat style. Then head.
Parasoul - Head, so much head and tech those throws and since I have double jump no crossunder for you :p
Squigly - fuck squigly. (use head though)
Valentine - air grab don't get hit by over heads and tech grabs. Head.
Cerebella - Head. (beats her armor and saves me from anything)
Peacock - Patience and pattern recognition. Then more head.
Ms. Fortune - I dunno first to head I guess.

All - catch them slipping doing a normal or air dash and feral edge that ho. (but I dunno what to do afterwards. Maybe head?) I also bait them to attack the head since some people fall for that. (.5x damage? whatever I don't even care for the head do it.) Then I get 'em.

Pretty much just getting outplayed....there's nothing specific that beats me.

Valentine:
  • j.HP crossups (particularly Agent J's). I just can't see when she crosses the threshold for each side, no matter how much I watch for it.

  • The reset/mixup after Valentine does j.LK to cross through/under you during an air chain. I always know it's coming, but always choke on teching or blocking low. Depending on the height, I think the answer may be to just j.LP/j.LK on the way down
Filia:
  • j.HP, j.HK when delayed long enough that the j.HK is really ambiguous and I can't tell which side it'll be on.

  • Airball spam. My best guesses are that I should be trying to hit during the ADC between the end of Airball and the start of j.MP|j.HP|j.HK. Maybe I should be trying to move during the airball to a different spot to stage a counter like dashing under her for a cross-under, or backwards to make her whiff entirely.
Parasoul:
  • Much like Valentine, the cross-under reset/mixup is just really hard to see and react to. I can know it's coming and I'll still just choke on teching, blocking low, or blocking the overhead. Skarmand puts me through my paces with this all the time, but a great many Parasouls online use it.

  • Embarassing as it is, I actually have a really hard time with fast back to back Napalm Shots once I've blocked one. I really don't know how to get out "correctly" if I've blocked one at full screen and either end up clumsily getting out after taking one or two delayed explosions, or get stuck in some unnecessary chip.
Fortune:
  • Seemingly random air normals that beat my PW out on a lot of air-to-air fights. Kidpanda and Red Savarin both are extremely difficult for me in this regard; I feel like I can't ever get on their half of the screen without walking into a tornado of feet and claws.

I think my biggest problem is zoners. Either I can't get in at all, or I manage to win but took way more damage than I'd have liked.

I guess with that, it's just conditioning the other guy into attacking a certain way and then faking them out. Or maybe use my assist as a decoy while I Silver Chord or something.

Also, throws. Just in general. I'm probably the worst at throw teching ever. I'm pretty sure you could just do nothing but throws and I'd lose. :P

I personally feel like I'm terrible at the Peacock mirror.

I'm really bad at dealing with incoming mixups after a character is knocked out.

Pushblocking too soon/late.

It seems like when I understand what's really beating me, it stops beating me. Or at least stops beating me consistently.

So I guess I don't know what beats me. That's why it beats me.

Filia in her entirety makes me cry at night.

And I've never blocked a crossup jHP from Val. If I could learn how to block and break out of those all-too-obvious throw resets, I'd be gold.

I get beat a lot by myself with inputs. I'll edit later with more stuff but most definitely, still getting beat by Parasol's deceptively huge jHP.

Me trying to get hits in when I don't know shit about the game.

Pretty much my bad habit of jumping backwards almost always, people know this, and will air grab me

I screw up my inputs sometimes because I use a 360 controller and my hands are to big, so I end up messing up inputs sometimes and that's what beats me the most.

But other than my controller problems, I have problems with....

Filia: Her updo assist can be a problem at times, but if I know someone is gonna throw it out then I can block it most of the time.

Peacock/Double: This team is absoltely disgusting because I've fought people who use Double butt assist and use Peacock's bombs, gun shots, item drops, argus, and anything they can to keep me away. If I'm using Parasoul while fighting a good Peacock/Double player I get beat almost all the time because there is no way for me to get close. Sometimes I can get close if I use Fortune and do some good damage, but other than that I haven't figured a way around it yet.

EDIT: FUCK YOU DOUBLE BUTT ASSIST.

I don't know what is and isn't part of a Painwheel combo, so I get reset everytime by her. Nerf Painwheel's spinny moves plz

Peacock with Double Butt spam. Just when I thought I got something going they buffed her airplane.

Also painwheel's j.mp or double's j.hp (pretty much the same thing). I know it's coming but there seem to be very little I can do besides block and/or call DP assist.

I'm the worst player on the internet, so the generalized answer is "anything".

But, specifically, anyone who just hangs back and stuffs my Val's approaches. Hell, I even lose to keepaway Cerebella.

Keepaway grapplers is actually a viable option.

Against offensive fighters. Try being more defensive I guess?

I sincerely doubt that, but your name is appropriate regardless.
My Steam ID is right next to my posts; add me and invite me to a game if you dare to see just how bad an online player can get.

If you can hit buttons or do basic inputs you're not the worst lol.

Ps: I tried copy and pasting your steam name into the community search, but it says profile can not be found. Might want to change that to whatever is your current Steam name or whatever.

I'm bad in general, but I'm extraordinarily free to any kind of grab in any game. This, smash bros, whatever.

Huh, just tried searching myself, no hits. Here's the profile link:

I've gotten better and better at this game over time, but I still lose to every, "good," doublecock.

My own execution. I'm generally not all that great anyway, but dropping resets tends to be the death of me.

Peacock + any psylocke assist
Peacock + HK Bomber

I base so much of my Painwheel approach on using j.HP armor and flight cancels to get through the middle of the screen where peacock has the least coverage (not sure now with HK Bomb changes) but any assist that hits the midscreen air range destroys that.

My Double is utterly helpless outside of watching for Item calls and s.HP/Bang and randomly dispensing cars. Mostly I just try to double jump at her awkwardly and get popped with j.LKs, medium items, or land on bombs/bangs.

Try to use PW ground dash to get in vs PC in conjunction with flight. Since you can block very early in the dash it's a decent tool to get space.

myself. can't control my anxiety and start to do stupid things as soon as i get hit

It's so easy for people to bait me it's funny. I'll see someone crouch blocking and think "why aren't they doing anything" then jump in and get punished for it and realise what's going on, then a few seconds later they'll be crouch blocking, I'll actively think "they're baiting that jump in I attempted earlier" then proceed to go through with it anyway.

Mind you though, Fortune hitboxes and god tier assists (George's Day Out) make these stupid approaches successful more often than they should.

depends on the player.
ill just pick painwheel and use cerebella as a mobile shield to take most of the hits and just bash the shit away for chip damage.
if my painwheel gets beat, i'll resort to aggresive nonstop mashing with bella :p

From a solo PW perspective these are my weaknesses:

(This is half whining and half legit)

Cerebella - Everything this character has is designed to counter PW. Better Air priority? Check. Super that knocks PW out of air? Check. Air throw for occasion that you've decided to stay on the ground? Check.

Double - Catheads hitting PW out of flight is dumb. Having a better j.mp than PW is dumb. Generally doable though, and much respect to good Double players.

Filia - j.hp - j.hp - j.hp ... fuck you.

Ms Fortune - Nothing bad to say to be honest. Solid character that isn't super cheese on any front... though if you are a masher... pick up MF or Filia. You're welcome.

Painwheel - To hell with you @Elda Taluda . Other solo PW, <3.

Parasoul - QQ when you read how weak she is because that air priority is going to hurt...

Peacock - Dear God... that top hat thing + Air show + teleport... I win if I catch her... but catching her...

Squigs - Really, probably the only true imbalance I see in this game. j.HP to keep you at range and disgusting damage when she decides to get close. Generally a weak character from what I hear, but vs PW Squigs is brutal.

Valentine - Seriously unfun. It is about who can catch who first and Val is more mobile. Luck out on a hit and she's yours, but expect to chase her around the entire map.

Decent Parasouls, especially with a good assist. She is a wall that I can't climb and I almost feel like pushblocking barely moves her at all. Her LP-HP air chain stuffs my armor, teardrops and napalm shot covers the full screen, sniper always threatens flight, lvl 3 is ungodly good, and then there's napalm pillar. But the biggest problem is her corner trap mixup game. As a solo PW, I really start to feel helpless when Updo, Cerecopter, or Double's Assjam is locking me down during the brief opening.

For me it´d have to be my lack of creativity, I usually x-copy good players and then adapt what they do, which more often than not makes me easy to download if I play someone often enough.
That, and I´m really lazy when it comes to learning MU´s, so by the time I get bodied by a character often enough to figure him/her out I´m so salty I can´t think straight.

Parasoul still messes me up pretty good. I'm never sure how to approach her... and should she happen to launch me into the air I panic as her reset options become disgustingly good.

Squigly.. I think it's just the lack of matchup experience. Most people still avoid playing her because without her stances charged her damage output and mixup are so-so. That said, a fully charged squigly TOTALLY changes the way you have to fight against her. Makes me scared to attempt any offense due to her Center Stage > Super setups. Oh, and those stancel frame traps.

Painwheel - To hell with you @Elda Taluda . Other solo PW, <3.

haha! I sent you a friend request on Steam last night. I was wanting to give you some advice, if you'd like some that is. Good matches though.

Is this satire
He plays Painwheel, which is probably the closest it comes to a 'bad' matchup for Ms Fortune imo since Painwheel spends most of the time above Fortune, putting her at a disadvantage/not at an advantage and making her main tool for landing a hit HK Fiber Upper, which at full height Painwheel can just armor through with j.HP (and cancel into air super if they so wish). Fortune air super pretty much stops the matchup from giving Fortune an actual disadvantage, so the only real con for her is that it's harder than common matches with other characters.

I suspect a better Fortune player may rebuke what I've said though, or at the very least append it.
