Heya! Final project for my building comics class. This is a preliminary sketch so as I blow this up, changes will occur. The subject: a holiday illustration which will be non-skullgirls related (but I know you all love Skullgirls, so I'll slip it in somewhere). Hey my baby Caroline needs love

It looks great. The colors really give the impression that Pea is out of the frame...though I keep waiting for Leviathan's tail to knock the pencil of her hands.
Maybe it's the scan or even my brightness settings but I'd say Pea's coloring could be lighter though. Her hair looks more red than orange and the dress' details get lost in the dark purple. But again, could just be the scan.

Side note, as someone who's been messing around with paper and pencil once again, I think what I love the most about your art is how smooth everything looks. I always leave the paper looking like a WWI trench. (.__.)

It's pretty obvious that the image is largely supposed to be Peacock illustrating the rest of the image, though a I think a few more unrendered areas and guidelines would help give that impression more stongly. And Peacock appears to be darker colored because he is setting the shaded layer to either darken or multiply over a layer with one tone of the color. It sounds like he's pressed for time with a deadline but something he could do to give a bit more life to those areas would be to create another layer above the linework, set it to lighter color and work in a more complete color spectrum.
What kind of paper and drawing tool are you using? You may want to look into getting a heavier type of paper.

Wow advice from someone of a higher statue? *bows* Ok, let me see. Well I'm on Bristol paper. I have 11x14 and so far it's been helping I shade a bit better and since the paper quality is giving me great shades and highlights, I'm making the right choices. But when I read that the Peacock was darker than she was suppose to be I went into Photoshop and I DID lighten her colors up. But it could be my laptop because I still flicker with the screen settings.

I still can't believe you came by and offered me advice. This is just more of a push for me to get better!

I do appreciate the feedback from everyone. It really helps.

I was kinda answering his concerns while mentioning things that would probably help.
Also this is still one of my favorite art resources on the net.

Yeah, I totally saw that, but I been getting hella lazy. I randomly came by and I saw I received another message and when I saw that you were the one, I kinda had to jump up because I recently followed your tumblr. But because of the help I received I can edit this picture. I showed it to Kay in an email and she told me to recan it because she would want it to be at a higher DPI. Well 300 to be precise because they contacted me back in July and apparently, the 86d team saw my stuff and really like it. Even Jack saw it and I think that its quite a feat for someone who doesn't do digital art (Still need to learn it)

So that's pretty much my story. I constantly CONSTANTLY draw Skullgirls. I need to change it up. I got other stuff I wanna draw too! I still want to say thank you for coming by to this thread again. It seems to gather a lot of attention.

300 dpi is pretty much the standard for print, though I personally prefer to work at 450 dpi because it gives me the ability to do larger adjustments like using distort and warp tools, without the loss of quality once you shrink it back down.

Yeah, that's true. I gotta get on the ball with that. I shrink my things down. I sold them as prints and they came out pretty well. I haven't had complaints about anything. But things change and steps should be taken to explore new ways. I might liek this way better. I dunno if I should send it as a tif or a jpg.

Good news and bad news. As anyone would start off, let's start off with the good news.

Good news: I have a week and 2 days left in my semester and then it's OVER. I can chill and do whatever Todd wants to do. Sweet? Damn straight, because I can get my sleep hours back, and I can draw what I want. I haven't slept since....Saturday. Yeah so I'm runnin' on nothing. It's pretty sad, but look on the bright side, I can take commissions again. That is if you want to accept me? Yes, I know it seemed like I lied but what the fuck SVA! You know I have supporters, friends and fans of me. Sure, I'm not the best Skullgirls player but I dish out shit loads of illustrations. Wait, if this is good news why are you complaining? Oh because I have at least 7 pictures unscanned and I'll post the mall for you. Borrowed from Cerebella's story mode telling my own story of Feng and Cerebella performing in the circus. I'll notably livestream those.

Bad News: I'm taking a hiatus after Christmas, I need a drink, a bed and a fuckin' girl. I'm stressed and SVA is stripping my life of sleep.

Until then, take care everyone have a good one!

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd share some awesome news. I recently got my artwork done for my portfolio class! Yea! I'm free. But I still lack sleep. What does this mean? Since I'm done with the important assignments, I can focus on possible thing I want to do: commissions. Yes! That's right, I can officially do them. But I have a feeling some of you lost faith in me. It's alright because I wouldn't blame you if this was so. In the meantime I'm going to post an ipdate in a couple of minutes.

Any thoughts? Please share your comments,

You think we lost faith in you? Come on Todd, I think you should have more faith in us, as well as yourself.

Believe in me who believes in you, know what I'm saying? You're a great artist, and everyone here knows it.

I believe Denizen summed it up quite nicely.
I mean, lost faith in you? What is that nonsense?
Your art pieces are always awesome and I haven't seen any dip in quality in your recent pictures and doubt I will in any future ones. Seriously dude, your artwork on some EightySixed merchandise, it has to happen!

Chrono and Dai, thank you. I really appreciate it. I feel like my art has been dropping. I admit I been getting a bit lazy. But, that's because I'm getting of school and I want to go on winter break.

Feng: Hey there, looks like we bagged a pussycat. We got under your claws somehow, didn't we, CAT? Bella, she's no fun anymore...whaddaya say we just kill 'er?

Cerebella: FENG!!

*Part of a retelling I did for my portfolio class this semester. It was a retelling (a shortened version) of Cerebella's story. I'll post that during the break. All the parts.*

While I still don't see any loss of quality in your art this does remind me of the many times in which I have seen an artist post some well done piece only to see many flaws the public just can't see. Anyways, tis understandable given that many people are facing crunch time right around now in regards to school work. Plus while it'll suck to see a slowdown on the amount of art you upload I don't think anyone here would disagree with the fact that you deserve a well earned break.

Couldn't settle for a cuddlin' girl?

Now seriously Todd: take your time, relax and your art is still awesome. You just need to rest a bit and you'll feel like a new man.

That's easy for you to say, Mr Big Shot Slim-But-Totally-Ripped Martial Artist. Asides, I bet you're not as dreadfully bad with a pencil as I am. Check yo' JKD privilege, Bruce! :P

...plucked from this Earth too early, he was. Like all the best ones.
If he was not mostly famous for his accomplishments in the field of martial arts, I'm certain he'd be celebrated as a philosopher. He has succeeded at both. But I digress.

ToddaBella,
Get some rest and enjoy the holidays. Repose is the better part of readiness, after all.
As a great man once said - "I believe in sleeping." - Bruce Lee (the context might be something more meta though)

Sleep is probably the better option. Sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

Once again, I went back and I made some heavy edits to this, thanks to the advice from Maji. That dude has some killer art (obvious is obvious since he worked on the game) Anyway, I know some of you are TIRED of seeing this. If you have the old file in your documents, you can can that crap. This is a better picture at least to me and I definitely like the outcome.

Also, this is something I submitted to 86d/ Credits given and everything. So let's see what happens.

Looks great. Pea looks much better and good call at highlighting the title.

Best of luck with 86'd.

Oh, shit. I misread that apparently.

My feelings are hurt.

Mine were too. Oh yeah that reminds me. So I sent the corrections in to Kay. She told me what do do by capping it for me. glad she did because the screen cap she sent made everything so much clearer! :)

Just going leave this message to say, your artwork is amazing keep up the good work.
