Magic was definitely the way not to catch summons. Regarding physical attacks, there were a lot of rumors about certain attacks (more hits with ra-seru or lows) increasing your chances, but the overkill theory is one I've seen alot of people agree on. And it makes sense.
Finally, nice to see someone else has played and known about the first RPG I ever played.
