Do you play the same character in other fighters?

If a character you play in a fighter appears in an other game, do you stick with it? I don't know about you guys but I play a different character in every game. Just because I can't transition from one to the other. I play Dudley in SSF4:AE but in 3S he plays so differently that I rather use Necro.
Do any of you guys think like me? Are there any character that will be with you forever?

I played Sakura and Akuma (SF) since Alpha 3, and I still use them in other SF games.

I'm very loyal to my characters as I pick them based on more than just mechanics. I really prefer to like my character as a person therefore I play them across multiple titles, if I can. Though the only real example I have of this is Vega and Juri between SFIV and SFxT and Kage-Maru between Virtua Fighter 2 and Virtua Fighter IV EVO.

I've played Chun in every Street Fighter, but not all Capcom games.

I share some of your philosophy in that I pick characters that I think are cool. I chose to play PW because I though she was badass before I ever touched the game. But in the Dudley exemple I can't play him in 3S because the things that work in AE don't work there and vice-versa. And that messes up my game.
Also, I play Charlie in Alpha2 but hate Guile in all other games. Even thou they play almost the same.

I bought SF4 because when I saw Cammy in tournaments, I thought she looked cool. I never touched another character, and even though she is going to F tier, I will still play her. I just don't like any other characters.

As for SG, my favorite character is Cerebella but I decided to add Filia to have an assist. From there, I've tried adding a third character but I keep going back to my normal team.

Not counting re-releases (Turbo > Super > Super Turbo etc.) I think the only character I've held on to for each iteration of a series is Samus. I main her in every Smash, no questions asked. Thank goodness for Brawlmods.

I'd LIKE to play as Alex in more games though! Maybe Alex will be playable in Ducktales 2 Remastered.

I see and understand, but that probably wouldn't be a problem for me at all, as me just starting with Vega in SFIV was a huge problem because he was my first charge character ever and a first zoner (not to mention garbage tier). I even disliked his playstyle at first but stayed with him as he looked ridiculously cool in SFIV trailer and I ended up being quite decent with him. He was pretty much the reason I wanted to play SFIV at all and to this day my hype-meter drops by 75% if I don't see a character I really want to play in any trailer. More often than not it's decided by their looks, movement style or how they speak than what gameplay they represent.

But to be completely honest I did choose Valentine due to some of her similarities in gameplay to Chipp Zanuff who I main in GGXX. Later I just grew to like her as a character too. ;)

Painwheel was supposed to be my original second character but in movement she wasn't what I expected of her.

Usually not. Mvc1-2 Wolverine is fun IMO but Mvc3 Wolverine is a lot less fun.

In a more general sense, I generally prefer rush down and pixie type characters in particular.

nope. Sometimes I'll play a grappler, charge character, zoner, or even shotos. It all depends on who feels best to you.

I have, in Blazblue I mained Tao since CT, but in Guilty Gear I used to main Baiken in #Reload and AC+ but subbed her once I learned about the Keylady some years later (Freakin love ABA). And in Street figther I play Rose, well in Alpha and in SFIV or whichever one of the newer ones shes in

I tend to go with characters that I mesh with in that particularly game, mechanically speaking. So chun. In 3s and a2 works for me, and I did use her in sf4 as well for a couple of years. But I got tired of getting dive kicked to death with no vortex to make up for it so I moved on to ibuki.

In sg I'm still having a character/team crisis... I've found the perfect team for me but it gets counter picked hard by peacock and head off fortune as well as those that turtle the opposite upper part of the screen are hard to deal with.

So.... Yeah.

It's a lucky thing you mesh with a super-top-tier character. :^P

And unluckily I don't like 3s... Though a2... Yeah pretty damn lucky... Love that game. A2 chun makes 3s chun look fair :)

It depends.

In most games I tend to pick ninja/cyborg/samurai/sophisticated badass/kung fu master-type characters. In Tekken I'm a loyal Feng Wei player. I really liked using him in Tekken 5, then I played him in T6 and TTT2 when I got back to Tekken. I was VERY upset that Tekken Revolution didn't have Feng (And Kunimitsu) at first, then I was more upset when they added him, but I had to grind for those damn gift points just to unlock a new character. I don't regret paying money for Feng and Kuni in a Free-to-play game. I also used to be a loyal Sub-Zero/Sektor/Cyrax/Reptile/Ermac/Rain/Smoke player in MK games. I mained Juri in both SSF4 and SFxT, but I don't feel happy with her proposed nerfs in Ultra. Not sure if I'll still stick with Juri.

Then there are cases like Dudley. I enjoy playing him in 3s, but I don't seem to like him in SSF4. I don't know. I heard he's getting buffed in Ultra though.

Depends on the game and which character just appeals to me for whatever reason. For instance when the first Tekken rolled into our arcades way back when I chose Paul right away, just because it was the first time a fighting game character had my name, and I've stuck with him in every iteration of any game he's been in. I also chose Wang for the sole purpose it was fun to say I beat people with my Wang. (juvenile, but hey... it was the reasoning at the time). Also in my much younger competitive arcade days besides my "main" I ALWAYS took the character that people considered the crappiest in the game, and made a point of learning them to prove they could be viable, and usually succeeded somewhat. But these days I'm too old to do that crap lol. Ahh to have the reflexes of a 20-year old again.

I also tend to lean towards grappler/charge characters, but mainly I happen to like certain character's designs and the way they look and they coincidentally fall into those two categories. Dedicated T.hawk and Vega player since their first SF incarnations. Was a Sodom player in Alpha series. Also a Bella main in SG and it's honestly my favorite game overall just because it appeals to me so much visually (and musically as well). Just recently started playing GG a lot and May immediately stood out to me because she was a lil' pirate chick who fought with a huge freakin' anchor which I thought was pretty cool. Again coincidentally she has charge moves and a command throw :D. But then again I play Yosuke in P4a who is a total rushdown character again just because I liked his design and the fact he always has headphones on (which I also tend to do.) Kilik in Soul Calibur since day one strictly because I'm a huge fan of Jet Li's older movies in which he fights amazingly well with a staff in the majority of them. Joker and Harley in Injustice just because they've always been my favorite DC characters. Shun in VF series also because Jackie Chan's Drunken Master was one of my most-watched martial arts films when I was younger. My 2nd in SG is Peacock, a zoner, just because I adore all the old cartoon references she contains.

So basically, it all pans down to which character I like. Not whatever "tier" they fall into or just because they fall into one archetype. Honestly if there's no character I like visually or design-wise, I usually lose interest in the game entirely (like D.O.A for example. Whoopeee it has bewbs. But no character in that game ever really "hooked" me design-wise). Even if they are considered super low tier or craptastic I still have fun playing those specific characters whether I win or lose, and after 20+ years of fighting games, you realize that's what matters most.

I like to play as little girls.

Not like that.

I am not all that loyal to my characters nor archtypes between Fighting Games. My only case of dropping characters was from SF3 to SF4. I played Makoto, but her Grab 'n Choke nerf made me switch, and I played Chun-Li, but I didn't really care for her feel in SF4.

As for archtypes, I vary by game:

SF3: Rushdown or Zoning
SF4: Zoning or Grappler
Skullgirls: Rushdown
P4A: Zoning
BlazBlue: Grappler
Project M: Slow Heavy Hitter (basically "Smash Grappler") or Shoto

I played Ivy in SCIV but then they took out all her stances in SCV :(
Trying to be a Ivy main across multiple games would be rough, most of the cast retains more in common with the previous games clone/variant version of themselves (nightmare and Siegfried as examples) then Ivy retains with herself from game to game, she's the character they just can't stop re-inventing from scratch.

As for myself, I do tend to stick to the same character if one really resonates, I'm a Cammy in every game she appears in whether she's bottom or top tier, or some where in the middle for example. But there have been exceptions as I don't think I've mained the same character in a Soul Calibur yet and I've played them all (included soul edge and the crummy wii off shoot). I'm pretty sure if a SF game came out where I found Cammy's gameplay really un-fun I'd pick some one else cause its ultimately about having fun in the end, but if I am still having fun with a past favorite and no new character really stands out to me, I'm probably going to stick with ol' faithful.

CT-CSEX Nu/Lambda (I'd still use Nu in CP even though she plays awkward now.)
SSB-SSBB-Kirby (I'd probably do the same for project m)

I'm too lazy to change characters to be honest. Might as well stick to what I know and get used to the changes.

i play as different characters between sequels/series, but will just stick as the same characters for updates since its not a totally new game in most cases.

i think the only character i going to break the rule with is once ultra drops im gonna be maining hugo who i also played in 3rd strike. i just hope they give him some halfway decent stuff to mess about with.

Very likely to main Kagura in CP so yeah I guess so.
