After being misled by another thread title, I have felt the need to make this thread about the great anti-hero Wario! For those who don't know, he is the opposite version of Mario: fat, greedy, rotten, and prone to wrestling/butt-slamming/punching/doing nasty things to get as much money as he can.

Personally, I remember seeing the original Warioland game from someone at a caribbean resort and going "WHOA! What's this?!?" My interest was piqued even more when I got my hands on a gameboy color and my first game, Warioland 2. Because who would've thought a game where you cannot die could be so difficult? I've beaten it several times over the course of more than 10 years, and the fact i'm still finding secrets is either testament to the design or proof of my scrubbiness.
Warioland 3 was also great, as was 4. I never got around to playing any other of the games since, but I'm trying to find a copy of Warioland: Shake It somewhere nearby so I can borrow a roommate's wii to play it. Because God damn is the music good. Have a listen and then describe stuff Wario related.
Edit: Because I can't figure out the difference between peaked and piqued.

The thread we needed! Thank you.

I DO love me some Wario!
But Waluigi will always have a special place in my heart, because he's my favorite Nintendo creation.

[edit] Your interest was "piqued", sir.

Also, anyone remember that Wii Experience thing they did with youtube? It was pretty clever, going along with the whole Shaking theme. It looks like they took down the original page, but here's a video screencapping it.

I used to ignore WaLuigi, but then I saw this series of comics and became very scared of him. VERY.

Wario is literally the fucking best.
I've played most of his regular games, and his Warioware games too.
I've always loved every single one. It's hard not to love the fat bastard.
I main him in Brawl too. Hoping to main him in Super Smash Bros 4 too.

I'd love if Waluigi got some spotlight outside of the sports games though.

Someone on Tumblr had the best idea.
A Wario & Waluigi RPG where they just go around doing random bullshit and somehow end up saving the world.

wario ware best game
(I especially enjoy the jump rope mini game. My record is really bad on it. 72 ;_;)

Well ok, I've played SOME of the Warioware games.
I missed Twisted, D.I.Y, and I have yet to get Game & Wario.
I still love everything Wario related though.
Because he's the main man.

(I apologize in advance)
Yeah, Wario has always been the one other Mario character besides Luigi and Rosalina that I truly enjoy from a character perspective.
I always found it funny that Wario was the one with the most diverse lifestyle in the Mario series. Yeah, of course he goes on adventures, but he's the only one we see really doing day-to-day activities. Running a business, sitting on his ass doing nothing, interacting with friends, sitting on his ass doing nothing. Did I mention sitting on his ass? Doing nothing?

Well, interest can peak, and thus have peaked. like my interest in plums, I dont think I can get anymore interested than I currently am.

On the topic of Wario, I've actually never played any of his games. I played him in some party games, but that's about it. Is there like a story reason for Mario to have an evil twin or whatever? Does he have something to do with Daisy? What's the deal with Waluigi?

There's never been an explanation, he's like a Bizarro Mario that came into existance one day.

He first appears in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins for Gameboy, taking over mario's world. I think one of things is that in japanese his name is basically bad mario.
As for Waluigi, he first appeared in the Mario Tennis series and may have just been to let Wario have a partner. However, he's grown out of that some, though still has yet to have his own game to the best and worst of my knowledge.

So hes a random greedy dude? Does he live in a kingdom or something, or is he like a traveling hobo?

He's just sorta...there.
Canonically he appears to live in a place called Diamond City, though.
But he also apparently has a summer home in a Castle.
It's all over the place.

I have Wario Land 1-4 and have played Wario World. Those games are awesome. WarioWare's no slouch either. My favorite character is 9-Volt!

I'm honestly not a huge fan of Wario. I certainly don't dislike him, I like his being the Mario series' anti-Mario, and the games he is in range from pretty good to tons of fun, but in terms of the WarioWare series, I like every single other character more than him.

When Wario first came out I thought it was the dumbest idea ever... but was happy to have a new boss so I didn't complain. When they gave him his own game I thought that was the dumbest idea ever... and then loved the heck out of it. And then some where in between wario land 1 and 2 I fell in love with the 8 year old's dream come true and became obsessed with him for close to a decade. In a long stint where 2d platformer game play had fallen to the way side due to the hype of 3d, wario games continued to give fresh experiences and smart twists on tired tropes. Wario, as mentioned, is kind of like a 8 year old's idea of what a villian is, acting not truly dangerous or villainous, but more immature and selfish, greedily obsessed with money and constantly farting and burping, the sort of stuff that makes little kids laugh but then they get told by their parents is wrong. But as stupid as the idea behind him was, it was also what made him so great. Unlike mario whose never had much personality, wario was full of it, cliche'd though it might be, and because we were supposed to hate him at the same time we were rooting for him, it allowed games to do every horrible thing imaginable to him. One of my favorite endings was in one of his games where if you didn't collect enough money at the end instead of getting a castle, he got a bird house that he had to live in now for all his hard work.

In the original wario land you were basically just mario with more "extreme" powers and the goal not to rescue anyone but to get rich, but in later games much of the game play involved finding embarrassing or painful ways to achieve your goals, like needing to get stung by bees he was allergic to so he'd bloat up light a balloon and float to a platform, or needing to get him squished flat under something heavy, so that he'd be able to shimmy under a crack in the wall, or get his butt set on fire so he'd run 3 times as fast and be able to get past that part he was too lazy to before. It was smart, and funny, and fun.

Special shout outs to the wario ware games which have considerably less to do with wario but were every bit as fun as his plat former games. I no longer go by wario themed screen names online, but wario is still a favorite character of mine and I've got a wario hat and fake jagged mustache around here some where from years ago.

oh man mario land 2 6 golden coins was such a good game. i still remember the music from the tree stump zone to this day with its weird squeaking.

warioware twisted is one of the best GBA games ever made too.

i cant say i was that impressed with him in brawl though

Found this wallpaper background. May make it mine later this year.

wario.
Can I add you? My NNID is DsMan1.

I'll do that when I set it up.

Then if it's not already done, you NEED to checkout a game called 'psycho waluigi'. It's basically a fangame of professional quality. The overall feel is exactly like the warioland games, but the gameplay is a little different. Althought Waluigi also hunts hidden treasure everywhere, each stage is a kingdom to overthrow by literally usurping the throne by flinging the current king away telepatically, the more treasure you got, the shinier the crown will be, with the ultimate goal of the game being world domination! Everything is custom, it looks great, sounds great and play grea!

It's definitely the game Waluigi deserve! It's a shame that it's not an official Nintendo game.

I remember playing Warioland 4 game. Yo it was so amazing but I didn't really appreciate it. I used to treat stuff like crap when I was young.
When I was in Target the other day, I played the demo of Mario Kart 8. I chose Wario and won first place!
Wario is a way better character than Mario in that Mario is a really flawed character because he has no flaws in the first place, no real character. Wario is a greedy, selfish guy, but he also has those moments of a heart of gold, making those times more endearing.

It's a real shame how Wario Land got little to no representation in Smash 4.

A SERIES THATS HAS BEEN A HUGE PART OF WARIO'S HISTORY & HAS BEEN AROUND FOR OVER 9 YEARS LONGER THAN HIS MICRO GAMES, gets one song.

Nothing against Ware tho.

At least it got something. It made me a little happy, but then sad when I think of all the other awesome music in the game. I think for platforming Wario smashing, Project M is supposedly more faithful (for example, shoulder charge is an actual special move).

True.

Oh well, at the end of the day, while I still would of loved it if Wario Land got more representation in his moveset, stage, or music.

Man, I love the oaf for the way he is:
