The Smash Bros Discussion Thread

I land Sing on a lot of peeps. Good stuff.

putting a ganon to sleep only causes them to dream harder and power up the volcano kick
truly an unstoppable force

Not unless you use Rest before they wake up.

Sing is way buffed in smash 4 for those who didn't know.

It can beat out a lot of things, including most dash attacks. Of course you can mash out of it, though.

also poeple stay asleep longer at higher percents. so when they're higher percents it would keep them asleep enough for at least an attack.

It's better than it's ever been, but that still doesn't mean it's good, and definitely not better than V-Kick.
The added priority is nice, but that only helps you to hit with it; hitting with it isn't the problem, it's everything after that.

You can always ledge cancel it and loop it if you want to be that guy.

You mean this guy?
(3:44 if the time link is broken)
Seriously though, that is super scummy and not okay.
this made me physically sick to my stomach

That makes me want to try it the next time I play Jiggs. Is that possible in Project M too or is it just Melee?

considering how garbage jiggly is in PM i would doubt that.

I haven't tested it, but I assume the PMDT would have probably seen to that considering how harsh they were when it came to wobbling and Brawl chain grabs.

The real question is 'why would you use Jiggs in PM?'

The real question is 'why would you use Jiggs in PM?'

that is the real question since she's fucking garbage in it.
others have a better air game and gimp game, others have safer things that get just as much reward as rest. her range is aweful compared to others. she's just so bad in it.

Thank God she is getting some serious indirect buffs coming in 3.5
In the year 2452.
what buffs are she getting i didn't hear the specifics of what's happening to her.

So, is it just me, or is Vision the most worthless counter in the entire series?
That thing is terrible, it goes WAY to far forward, and seems to have a very bad multiplier.
It actually leaves Shulk vulnerable when you HIT with it.
I've seen Shulks SD because they tried to counter while recovering, and that is ridiculous.
Like, if Sing wasn't a thing, I think Vision would be one of the worst moves in the game.

To be fair, it's got the longest active period and is super easy to spam.

and he's trying his best out there
you go shulk
you can do it

INDIRECT buffs.
I'm sure she is getting tweaked in 3.5, but what I am referring to is the sweeping change to recoveries, most likely making her gimping style of play infinitely more effective.

The long active period is nice, but seriously, it is next to useless as a counter.

the issue is there are others who now gimp better than she does. so it's not really that much of a buff to her.

The reason so many other characters are better at gimping at the moment is that they have such good recoveries that they can use to go super deep for kills. With the changes coming in 3.5, this will (hopefully) no longer be the case.

Easy to spam indeed, like Little Mac, when I try to go for an up-air kill, Shulk players like to use counter. Hits 60% of the time but it's still annoying.

Hits 60% of the time

60% of the time

60%

If you hit with a counter, either by reading your opponent or just getting lucky, being rewarded with a barely above average hit rate to deal damage with a move you already landed is horrible.
It'd be like if when hitting with a Falcon Punch, after landing it you had a 50/50 shot of actually dealing your damage and knock-back, or just doing the animation while being completely vulnerable.

I mean, Jesus Christ, if Sheik gets Vision-ed while using bouncing fish, she ricochets into the exact position to get the second hit of the move.

Hilariously enough, the cool slowdown effect on Vision is actually the main reason why it's so bad; the fact that it slows time instead of stopping it like all the other counters means that moves with any kind of momentum completely avoid the attack, and in some cases, get a free followup off of it.
If you are benefiting more from a move your opponent hit, then that is a bad move, end of story.

If that's the case, doesn't it depend more on which moves Shulk chooses to counter as opposed to blind luck as with your Falcon analogy?
Shulk's got plenty of other defensive tools in any case.

Jiggz can do this in Melee, PM and in Brawl.

I don't see anything scummy about this strat. Totally legit.

honestly i would say that physically assaulting your opponent irl is a more respectable strat than that sing bullshit

at least just straight beating someone isn't a gigantic waste of time

It's like walking into a Warlock Punch style shame. Why the heck are you anywhere near ganon while he's charging up that punch?

Same goes for Jiggz. Why are you ANYWHERE near the ledge with Jiggz there. You likely deserve it if you try that lol.

I concede, the Falcon comparison may not have been the best, but what you should understand here is it's not just moves that give themselves momentum, like Bouncing Fish.
It is ANY move that has upward momentum.
Samus running up and then going jump to nair? Not allowed to counter.
Getting juggled by Lucina uairs? Sorry, no counter allowed, better start Vectoring.

The problem with Vision is it limits it's use to two approaches; running up and attacking from above. Everything else must be shielded or avoided, which is fine, but it also removes counters ability to get out of strings.

For the record, I am NOT saying Shulk is bad; I actually feel he is a very good character, great even, that far too many people are sleeping on.
Vision is just a bad move on a very good character, nothing more.

Fair enough.
I don't play Shulk, but do you know if any of his custom downB's are any better?

Down-b 2 has more range and comes out faster, still suffers from issues with momentum, and deals less damage.
Down-b 3 has such slow start-up, it is basically impossible to hit with it.

I'd say default Vision is the best one, which kinda sucks, but oh well, Shulk's still awesome.

So.

The game just crashed on me. I think. I was just looking at a trophy and it froze. Had to shut the 3DS off.

I've had the game freeze on me.
I think I killed the Yellow Devil right as a match ended in Classic Mode.

It's Ridley unlocking.

That's just a common thing that happens when you play betas.

So, have any other Shulk players out there found uses for Jump and Speed?
I get Jump is meant for recovery, but considering you are locked out of your b-moves when changing Arts, I don't think it's that good.
And I have no earthly clue what the Hell Speed is used for, at least not on For Glory.

Speed is used FOR DA PRESSURE. CHASIN' PEOPLE DOWN. Also it makes his airspeed a lot faster too.
